Maison Martin Margiela F/W 14.15 Paris

but isn't balzy still designing the couture? so where did omazic go? i was liking the direction she was taking the main line and this seemed more in that vein which is why it looks a lot like her work. eh...there's too many heads and not enough cohesion….it's so confusing. if this is indeed balzy's work maybe this is what he should be designing instead of that soulless gimmick-fest that's become the artisanal line.

you'r so right too many heads.
Blazy for Artisanal and Show
Christopher Booth( ex Balenciaga) just been appointed menswear Director.
Marios Schwab Pre-collections.
Don't know for line 1 and 4. Filippo Grazioli left for Hermes.
Omazic director of collection, but she don't touch the show and pre-coll

just think 10 years ago, margiela was designing 5 different lines himself along with his amazing team and yet through all of that there was this great sense of continuity between each line he conceived. it's become too much of a three-ring circus with too many personalities that have their own approaches which you can see very distinctly with each line's presentation. it's too much of a free for all masquerading under the guises of margiela's lines and not enough of that distinct, poetic language we used to see flowing throughout the collective. i feel like with MMM like i feel with helmut lang now, they need somebody who understands those intricate layers and convey them all in a genuine manner.

I had no idea about this! That's very interesting to know. I love Schwab's work but never paid much attention to MMM Pre-Collections.

I have to say the whole idea of having this huge team of various designers behind this brand is kind of fascinating. Must be making for some weird dynamics in the creative process. In some ways it shows, as the brand definitely lacks a clear direction and distinct identity right now. But at the same time it's kind of funny that they just seem to be anonymously testing designers for this, and who knows, they might settle for just one head designer once they feel like they've found the perfect fit?
