Maison Martin Margiela x H&M

I love the way the candy clutch looks like a jeff koons, but it is weirdly long imo.

Also, I really feel like with these h&m collaborations, that by the time the items hit the stores they have been overexposed to a degree that makes me loose interest. You see the same pieces over and over and until they sort of just become symbols of the MMMxH&M collection.

but I want to buy some jewellery because of that pretty boxes! I hope they'll go with them..

it's all hype. mena suvari despite looking completely random(which could be said for the entire event, really)she also ended up receiving the most press from it. and apparently because of the generic celeb turn-out,in general, reports from it was on the E! channel here in the states....all over the web.

pe77,if you do get those oversized jeans(a classic, mind you) you could always trim the hem to your satisfaction.

yeah, like she is posing like a little funky girl in Versace, not in Margiela...so sad..
I only dig Kanye, but only because I like him anyways..

I probably will, because I will get them anyways! B) and I agree about the classic part, they so are.
After going through collection over and over again I realised I only want them.. the boots are pretty too, jewellery.. but I believe they'll be too popular, which is kinda repulsive..dunno..

Thanks fincher for the videos!

I love the building that housed the event-- not so much all the celebrities and Anne. I know giant conglomerate H&M wants this event to be artsy, but this is the type of performance art that gives me horror-flashbacks to my art school days. Why can't they just stage a simple fashion show with more unconventional-looking models of varying ages? That would have made it more credible and truer to the spirit of Martin to me since this is an H&M fashion event-- it's not Documenta. Jeez. And all the celebrities wearing H&M clothes is so very phoney-- as if... Kanye here is the worst offender (more so than usual). His jacket is so oversized; the sleeves may be the right length, but just look at how long it is, and how he's swimming in it. If I were ever even remotely interested in that coat, I would be avoiding it at all cost now that he's worn it: Guilty by association. On a positive note, at least no Kardashian accompanied him.

The best-looking and most solid pieces are the footwear. The clothes look like what they are: Mass-produced copies of the real things. I think that was to be expected, and as Izreal mentioned, there is absolutely no way mass-production at a consumer price-point could replicate the original MMM pieces.

I feel like only tall people like Maryna can pull off those pants. I imagine those being returned or not purchased. I really like them, but I know my friends would laugh at me if I wore them

phuel,i do wholeheartedly agree with your post there. the whole thing reeked of cheesy contrived performance art which MM never partook in...ever. not even in his first seasons. margiela was actually much more straightforward and thoughtful than that. talk about pretension.

chloe sevigny,i mentioned earlier in the thread.....she actually wore margiela on quite a consistent basis when he still owned it. tilda swinton would have been rather fresh to see there as well. as for kanye, well,he is kanye,no? like gaga and rihanna...victims as always....but about as much depth as a pothole in the street. it's a shame that H&M went that direction and decided to be totally predictable with this. it's funny because with comme those previews were a little more nondescript. i think the only familiar faces i saw was alison goldfrapp, maggie gyllenhaal and annie lennox's two daughters.

Again Scott, I don't understand why you'd expect the event to be purely Margiela. All those things you've mentioned you don't like are clearly the H&M part of this event. Those celebrities are there to bring hype to the collection (SJP= SATC fans; Chace Crawford= GG fans; Kanye = Rap fans; etc). Sure they could have brought in celebrities fitting the Margiela brand but it's not a complete bust.

They could have had the most popular pop star performing or done it a ritzy location. Instead they had relatively unknown artist and a space reflective of the Margiela attitude.

It's either half empty or half full. Again in fairness (my point in this argument), consider the whole scope of the event. In my opinion, it's a, shocker, a collaborative effort that reflects both brands.

and i'll point you to my above comment emailme. did you miss that? i freely admitted everything you just said.

still, doesn't mean it doesn't come across as contradictory or shallow. the point being,it would have at least been nice to see a few more genuine fans in the midst of all those attention seekers. that's all.

I wouldn't call Kanye a victim, he's pretty smart, I've watched a few interviews, and he is so talented for multiple things..but this is not a place for that discussion..

TREV.. who cares what your friends would say, I like it on Maryna too, but this is how a short blogger styled it(terrible styling, but they fit her amazing)

I am not going to wear it without heels anyways..

I'm thinking that the real fans of Margiela wouldn't come, that's why they weren't there..oh, it would be so pretty if Tilda was there..and maybe less stars but fashion editors and people that are really in fash world..but that wouldn't attract a lot of people..but on the other hand, I don't think that the classic GG fan would ever wear anything like this...

pe77, please credit your image. otherwise your posts will be deleted.

that leather jacket definitely looks as if it could swallow a person up. it looks even worse on this guy (credit :ebay)

I've narrowed my list down to only that jacket. Any more photos?

Also which blog is the from?

I can't see the pic of the eBay guy, but if it's the same one I've before (bald guy in cap?), it looks horrible on him-- the jacket looks all torn up on him. That jacket is meant for a very thin frame so the lines remain sharp, and not meant to be worn fitted. Even a woman wearing it fitted will look like she's busting out of the seams, Hulk-style-- literally.

I totally get that it's a commercial venture and H&M needs the event to be shown in all those tabloid/celebrity gossip shows, etc. to attract the mainstream, trendy customer who feed on this type of hype and affordability. It just feels so schizo as if the PR teams are running two different shows: one with all the celebrities crap, and another going all serious "art" performance with Anne and her crew. And neither represent MMM... As Scott,'s said it's a very shallow attempt by a corporation at staging a contrived avant-garde vibe. Martin, like Helmut, never presented his shows as anything but a simple, sparse, straightforward "showing" of his designs-- he even rejected the conventional runway with supermodels and stars.

As for Kanye being there to sell to the urban crowd... I don't think that crowd would be even remotely interested in MMM. Like the celebrity-worshipping pack, the urban crowd likes their dresses "cute" and their bags "it". I don't mean to pick on him-- because I do like his music, but he really needs to keep away from contributing, in any form, to high fashion. Just because you can pile on designer swag, does not make you stylish.

oh, I'm sorry I was in rush, it's 5inchandup.com as Teja wrote.. but I can't edit post anymore!

the jaket is terrific on photos, but I've never really liked that jacket..

I wouldn't underestimate Kanye's influence. When I was stalking twitter and searched 'Margiela.' Hundreds of results was Kanye's lyric line 'What's this jacket? Margiela.' Easily, that is a headline on a blog or a magazine.

Also this happened for the Versace collection where Kanye performed wearing the bomber jacket at the Victoria Secret Show. I lined up for this collection and many people were referring to it as the 'Kanye jacket' and had it on their list to buy. I can see this happening again to the coat he wore.

Regardless of our opinion, people will buy this just because Kanye wore it - however shallow and mindless we all know that is.

I have a few things on my list, but the oversized trousers and jeans are there. Gives me an excuse to purchase yet another pair of platform shoes. I'm mostly sticking to the trousers and jackets. I'm passing on the duvet coat because I hate white coats. The leather jacket will be a last minute decision for me. I have to see this in person.

I saw the pieces today in person, and there's a few other pieces we haven't seen crop up anywhere yet. There's a leather car seat dress, with the cut out back... maybe someone wore this for the launch actually? Either way, it's pretty cool. There's a cardigan draped jacket thing of the fur print jersey dress also. The really long grey knitted dress feels much nicer than I was expecting.

Menswear wise there's two big knitted pieces, a sweatshirt printed with a shirt on it, and a short sleeve white t-shirt which is actually really cool. It has like a rubberised print splattered near the shoulders and neckline. Personally I'm just not convinced by the leather pieces, in person they all look a bit... off. Shoes and boots really do look cool though, and from what I remember there's a sort of square brown leather bag I hadn't seen anywhere else which is worth a look.
