Male Model Height Requirement

You know, maybe it's just me but I've noticed that there are a lot of shorter male models these days. Like Roc Barbot, I could swear that he's a few inches shorter than the normal male model. And then I notice a lot of guys that are very tall, 6'3 plus. I suppose the standard is 6'0-6'2, but I'm pretty sure there are deviations.

There are already a couple of topics on this matter.
PLEASE use the search engine before posting
Thank you, guys!

PS. Would a mod pls merge it?

well......from my experience, agencies will easily sign a 5'11 guy

but......i know model twins who are 5'11 and they couldnt get booked for any shows because of their height

at the same time......there are some models with 6'1 on their card when they are really only 5'11 (ahem.......no name) and get booked for shows

but truely......if the casting director likes you.....you could get in between 5'11 and 6'3

oh i forgot to say........someone i know who did the dior show told me that some of the guys who also did the show were about 5'9

yeah, I think height is very subjective for models... it isn't really about how tall you TRULY are, but whether or not you can get away with claiming that you are taller (or shorter)

sh*t i could be a dior homme model

Well, I don't think a guy who is 5'9 is something to laugh about. Even if those Dior Homme models were midgets, they'd still be hotter than most men, period.

Ok, then I got the length, now the rest :P

im not laughing because he's 5'9.......im just pointing out that you can never give a 100% rule on heights

bear in mind the average fully grown male is 5'9.5

It is very subjective. I know that I am 5'10 , and I've met a few models who are " 6'0 " . I was just as tall.

^^ its true......an agency will easily modify a model's measurements on their card to suit their needs
height wont matter for most castings except runway, and even then, they casting directors barely ever actually measure a model's real height and just use the measurement on the card.

Damn right! :brows:

I've also been interested in modeling for a very long time. I feel i have a good height at 6'2, but looking at diff. pictures of male models on runways, it's hard to tell what they are looking for nowadays. (ex. Travis Fimmel looked toned on most of his CK ads, while those guys walking for dior and whoever dont look like they are over 120 lbs.) I'm going to NY this summer, would it be better to visit agencies while i'm there, or send in my polaroids? Thanks

I can't remember his name, but Models.com had a story about a 5'6" male model, and he was pictured in an editorial with Natalia Vodianova, so he couldn't be doing too badly.

I know Storm have 5'10" male models, but they also have girls like Liberty Ross and Kate Moss who are smaller, so they must relax the rules a bit.

But, as has been said, if an agency likes you, no doubt you will be signed and your height adjusted, unless of course you are, say, 5'3".

That 5'6 model is Joseph Sayers, of Major Model Management. A few other men who are underheight are Ian Somerhalder(of the guess campaigns circa 2000 who did alot of major fashion weeks too) at 5'9, Ford has a boy named Brian Nedblake who is 5'9, and Q has a few boys at 5'10, and actually lists it's minimum height for a man at 5'10, and Next as a boy who's 5'9 as well. It's difficult to give a concrete answer though, because some boys just photograph taller than they are. It's crazy fashion speak that I always made fun of before I really got into the industry, but it really rings true. What it comes down to is your overall look, if you're short than you've got to be able to make it up with an unmistakeably different look. I'm 5'11 and my booker always told me that when you're a bit shorter, stellar pictures and tears are even more neccessary. Plus the 5'10 boys I know all are listed as 5;11 on their comp cards. Just like the 6'3 boys are listed as 6'2. 6'4 is getting a little talle though.

seen

every one I've ever seen is 6'-6'2"

I guess there could be 6'3" and maybe 5'11"+ but that is the outer edges in my experience.
