Does anyone notice that since last season "a new league of young boys" is pushed on the market?

What`s everyones opinion on that?

I totally dislike it! Let`s face it: the majority of Men that can afford Designer Suits will be over 30 - will they buy a suit that they saw on a 16-year-old boy?

Our society is obsessed with youth (which is ridiculous anyway!) and women are pressured to be "forever young" which is why we are willing to buy the clothes that look good on 15-year-old girls but is that pressure now put on Men as well?

Anyway, advertising always needs Sex (in more or less subtle form) and that`s why I want to see well-built (not muscular) MEN not boys!

Advertising that appeals to me must make me think "Do me all night!" not "Oh you poor boy, let me cook you a meal!"

i know what u mean with regards to the 'boy' models

the thing is......there is a huge market at the moment for young guys who spend a lot of money on clothes.
something like 60% of mens clothes are bought by their mother or girlfriends, so the models need to appeal to them also.......ie: the customer has to believe that who they are buying it for will be able to look like that in the clothes.

and..... another part of it is to do with what the gay market wants...... not all guys are into hunky men.....some are into 'boys' so obviously different labels target different types of customers.

Thx for your interesting thoughts!

I was just about to think "I`m a women, these Ads do not aim to me" - but you`re right women make lots of descision for their Mens/brothers/fathers Style!

Yes, we obviously need many different types of Male Models but did I get this wrong or did literally a mass of underage-guys enter the market last season? My god, no Male Model at the Jil Sander or Prada Shows looked over 16!! I was quite shocked...

yea, the other labels see how well Dior Homme is doing with their look and follow suit.

remember Karl Lagerfeld is now at Fendi and he looooooves dior homme.....so im sure thats why we saw the likes of fernando brand, rupert wilson etc on the fendi homme runway as opposed to people like adam senn and james rosseau

i think its just a change for a while too......im sure there will be more 'men' in a couple of seasons. remember these boys are all new faces so they will grow, of corse work out and get bigger....so u will see them becoming men

Yes, the Dior Homme Look is a Trend now - because it`s cool...and yes, Karl is so obsessed with Hedi that he`ll copy whatever Hedi declares cool...(as if that would be appropriate for a World-Famous Designer in his late 60s!!! How embarracing! Hey, it`s as if Hedi Slimane had secretly overtaken Chanel, Lagerfeld & Fendi thereby! )

Oh oh, I think "maturing in the Industry" is NOT a good idea and will NOT work out in 99% of all cases!
It is a fast-paced business that always demands fresh Faces and on the other hand: most (Male) Models never manage to "grow beyond their look":

-Shaun Dewet is the eternal "universal Chic"
-Will Chalker & Damien Van Zyl are "the eternal hunk"
-Was Travis Fimmel EVER photographed in a full Outfit!?! I think not, he was replaced with Karl Lindman, who looks like his little brother!
etc.

Somebody who is currently "maturing" is Jeppe Zeller - and I watch this with a certain concern...while he is totally overexposed ONLY in "his look" ("Country Club Look") his face is changing...so when all this Tweed disapears & his face grows "beyond cute" it`ll be over for him

Ok, fine. It`s all a matter of taste.

So, which one of them do you think "will make it" in the industry?

I see good chances for:

-Eduardo Braun
-Tiago Gass
-Maximo (-forgot his last name- the Gucci guy)

But we should not forget that we already have 3 "Boy Topmodels": Boyd Holbrooke, David Smith, Alexis (-forgot his lastname- the other Gucci guy ) and I`m not sure how much space this Category has...is that deceided like "female buyers vs gay buyers"???

I found a successful "Boy-to-Man-Change"!

I can also see Tiago Gass going far. I hope that Fernando Brand will as well, but to be honest, I'm only beginning to get a sense of the male side of the industry.

Henry Barnacle has made a great transformation from boy to man

i think fernando possibly has the potentiol
i'd love to see Freddy W become a man, i think that will take him far....calvin klien possibly

a lot of the brit boys, David Morris, Danny B, Joe Fogg will be great when they mature

Men

In print male models fail to make an impact on me. They either look like innocent slimy Bruce Weber models or are too buff or are too formal. Why isn't anyone doing the more bi-look? Rock star like? Why are there thousands of sexy rock stars and like 2 sexy male models?

Perhaps it's just that modeling is a female field and the poses, styling and make-up is adjusted to women and not to men.

Still, Nicholas Rippy and Caleb look pretty darn good...not as good as Ville Valo though

Excuse me? Havn`t you seen Steven Meisel`s "Asexual Revolution" in W and Karl Lindman in Vogue looking as if he had just stepped out of Rocky Horror Picture Show!?!

There are TONS of "experimental" Editorials - you just have to read the Magazines!

I totally love the boys! They just appeal to me more than the well built (often too built imo) men, but that doesn't mean that I hate seeing "the men" in the business.

and the same for me.
also, i think since lots of people who buy into fashion are young, young models makes some kind of sense.

oh, tiago is getting more work? that's good to hear.

I like the boyish look when its styled on clothes that are appropriate for that age (i.e. Dior Homme)...but with Jil Sander I don't really get it. The cut of those clothes seem more appropriate for older, more mature dressers...I tried on some stuff at Jil Sander and maybe it has to do with my skin complexion, build, etc. but I can't picture anyone under 30 in those clothes.

BTW who's that guy, I think his name is Jack he's a model for Dior Homme, the dude with the long hair and unibrow? I think he's PERFECT for Dior Homme...has that emaciated, "lost youth" look that is so in tune with Hedi's aesthetic...very rock and roll, that guy looks great in DH clothes!

The Argentinian model for Gucci is Maximiliano Patane (NOT Maximo, LOL!!!) As for 'making it in the industry', I will have you know that Eduardo has been in the industry for over two-and-a-half years already. His type of look is not always in demand, as there is always new faces and new looks to be sought. He has told me his own views of his modeling career future, and to say he is going to make it now is a bit of a joke if you really knew him. Ate logo!!!
