The subject says it. I'm dying to try some new hair pomade.Currently I'm messing with American Crew Wax.

Can someone also give me the difference between matte, pomade and wax.

Much thanks

if you have short hair, i recommend Xtah crude clay, it holds while having natural finishing~

ok i'm not a guy, but i do have short hair and use products i'm sure you could as well, especially since my hubby also uses my hair products.

POMADES: add a sheen - i don't like to use it, but if you want a sheen, then try using a little at a time and build up accordingly.

Matte PASTES: give you styling with variable holding power. Doesn't make your hair look shiny or greasy.

WAX: allows you maximum hold, good for selecting pieces you want to seriously control (eg. cowlick) or emphasize (like a chunk here and there).

My recommendations (excluding Pomade b/c i don't use it myself - but i'd recommend anything by ***/Paul Mitchell).

- Wax with flexible hold: Paul Mitchell Wax.
- Wax with extreme hold, creates chunks/pieces: Bumble & Bumble Sumo Wax.
- Styling cream with flexible (yet strong hold, a little bit goes a long way): *** Hair Play - Paste (comes in a pump).

Hair styling products for male?? Need your advice

What kind of product (gel, mousse, spray, wax and etc...) is the least harmful to hair? I have curly hair and I am looking for something that holds the styling and yet keep the hair soft and natural looking. I've tried gel that basically was like glue and that didn't work well... Any input in greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Wax or Clay paste. Gel is bad because it leaves nasty flakes when it dries, and makes your hair look shiny and wet.

i think clay is the best! It gives you a natural look:)

wow this is a super old thread, but I had a question regarding hair products...

I use american crew fiber, but it gives somewhat of a wet look and the hold isnt great

Is there something out there that has strong hold and has a natural (soft, not wet) finish? Has anyone tried Jonathan's products?

I use Alterna Hemp hair concrete
It's dry and it won't show up in your hair.
I've tried some other waxes, but they add a bit of shine. This one doesn't
and the hold is really strong (that's why it's called concrete;) )

bond316 You can try mixing products together...
I mix the concrete with some pomade to make it a bit shiny and with hold

I LOVE Control Paste from Aveda.

I let my hair dry, and then run this through. The look remains dry looking, but I can get great seperation, a real piecey look.

the great thing is that if I get caught in the rain.........or something...........I can towel off my hair, and I dont need to reapply. I can rework my hair, and go.

Its a softer hard, so sometimes I apply a bit of Aveda's Brillant Hairspray.

i use the same product as amcham , it works pretty good
and i just finish with a finish spray :)
