Marc Jacobs F/W 2019.20 New York

This is what I might buy from this show...with the suit after!

Honest question, are these clothes only available via pre-order? Even the simpler ones? I've never seen anything vaguely reminiscent of the shows sold in London. Then again, I don't think his main line is sold anywhere here.

Yes, i don’t think the brand is sold in London. Maybe some bags at department stores but that’s it I believe.

No, the clothes are available in stores. I’m lucky I can travel so in general I buy American brands in the US and his Madison Avenue store has everything so far.
His Parisian store has some RTW but I don’t even go there.

But I think in general anyone who wants MJ clothes in Europe goes on Yoox

Same issue as last season, but perhaps less pronounced as a lot of this feels more wearable. Really nice clothes that have a classic feel about them, but unfortunately not classic enough to feel essential or the least bit relevant to the fashion conversation today.

The first section is quite decent but it goes a bit haywire later on with all those frumpy dresses and that's went this goes back to dusty dated-ness. This is simply not Marc's era anymore.

I like that it harks back to that look of the early aughts: bohemian layering, fur and feathers and sequins, and the oversized frumpy shapes.

But I agree with what was mentioned, that it isn’t his era. He may be trying to relive the glory days of 2000-2005 and trying to make it relevant today but we haven’t moved on to that revival yet. But I do feel fashion will move into that direction in the 2020’s (cause right now in the 2010’s we are reliving the 90’s)

I think that Marc needs something bigger than him, something larger than life a la Vuitton. His own brand is fine but maybe the frustration of the commercial part and the fact that he doesn't have that huge platform anymore has an impact on his work.

When he started to really take full advantage of his possibilities at Vuitton, it was marvelous. And i'm not talking about his grand shows with trains and all (because it was more of a production) but his period between 2005/2009 where he really gave fantastic clothes, crazy ideas and the magic between his creations and the name Vuitton.

He needs that connection again. I've learned that Sydney Toledano was at the show. I hope it means that LVMH has more plans for him.
Vuitton also had a great commercial impact on his own line. I think he should do Dior and more than that, he should do a proper Haute Couture collection.
