This fun and suave Marc Jacobs collection was as anchored in Palm Beach as a plastic flamingo in a manicured lawn. It had a dressy, nostalgic slant, evoking the bowling alleys, diners and kidney-shaped poolside parties of yore. Jacobs put a strong accent on tailoring — all in languid, sometimes slubbed fabrics and with a high-button stance that accentuated a retro swagger.
The designer, now completely devoted to his signature brand in his post-Louis Vuitton career, is wise to mine the quirky and colorful corners of Americana. The theme also yielded a spirited array of accessories — from satin sneakers to flamingo-print sandals and sportswear, including camp shirts printed with palm fronds to a silk biker jacket in a shade The Fonz wouldn’t dream of wearing: flamingo pink.
