Marc Jacobs S/S 05 New York

Not only is it terrible and shapeless, it is boring, derivative, repetitive, and unimaginative.

I think the shoes look gross. The only thing I liked was that turquoise bag dress on Karolina in the finale. And even that was sans shape and borderline ugly.

Metal-on-metal, we share very similar opinions, fabulous summation! :brows:

i can't say i'm disappointed really...because i didn'treally expect much...but i agree with helena...shapeless can be fine...dries, marni, cdg...all my favorites do that kind of stuff...

i see dries in the layered dresses at the end...i see marni in the baggy crropped pants with jackets...and johnny very kindly showed us the sweater marc copied...

but this is just some watered down version of those designers...even the shoes are disappointing this time...and aren't the colours more appropriate for marc by mj???

do you notice that every time you see someone wearing marc from last season...they look terribly dated and out of place...his clothes are not good...not good.. not good...*shakes head...

Dead right about the dries thing softgrey, hadn't really noticed that before, but also see it in the coat shapes. Oh and one other thing - the red and blue rugby top is exactly the same as a clements ribiero cashmere top from a few years ago - same pattern (although this admittedly is not unique to CR) and shades of colour.

I have heaps to say but can't get the time to say it - too much work to do.... softgrey - I totally agree about the looking dated after one season thing. marc is so flash in the pan - in many ways.

I like these very much , otherwise, the rest of the collection is boring, overly "vintage" ...overly floral. The checked pieces especially, are completely drab. I would not think of wearing them.

yes, but isn't Dries' shapelessnes draping and flowing? This is just badly cut.

yes faust...because it has been watered down for the american market...just give it up...you won't find anything really artistic coming form the american market...

we can only hope that more young europeans and japanese and south americans choose to show here...but even then...they probably won't sell here very well...
that's why i keep watching gary graham and now tess giberson...it's so rare to see genuine creativity coming from an american designer...design, yes...but not artfulness...

I found it unexciting and overly child-like. Agree with the dated thing too. I wonder why all the celebrities flock to his shows?

similar pants, but a slimmer cut. not as full in the thigh as last season.

I really don't like this. I just do not think that any woman wearing this on the street would be looking good. I don't think it's money in the bank this time for Jacobs. But I liked those final dresses though, not that I see anyone wearing it :P

it's like the bigger and sloppier marc jacobs himself looks, the more disjointed and frumpy his clothes become...these clothes are as disappointing as the chanel offerings from fall...and i can't imagine who this appeals to (and why would he invite li'l kim to the show when there's NOTHING she'd even be seen in court in)...where's the attitude we saw last season? those two pics kimair posted say it all.

Yeah, pretty boring stuff until the evening section. There was not one distinct look that defined the season. No highlights.

Aside from the usual vintage vibe, Marc Jacobs is however pretty ambitious with volume this season. He experimented with amorphous jackets, circle skirts, and most notably, short gowns with pleats in candy colors. A little Oscar de la Renta, esp. Erin Wasson's gown.

His FW collection was much stronger (though still can't quite compare to the European greats). He seems to do FW better anyway. There was a school girl themed collection back in either 2000 or 2001 that I really dug--nice cuts, wonderful blend of retro and modern influences, and the style is consistent and very Jacobs.

yes, sure. i see that but it was just the first that came to my mind. the looks just look a lot alike. even the shoes does from a distance. i think they're horrible btw.

argh, extremely dissapointed. it looks cheap and so poorly original.

Doesn't he have a habit of building up good collections, good years and then sort of pi$$ing all over it in a follow up collection? Like the very weird 60s mod collection? This could just be another attempt of his to relieve the pressure...it's almost as if he's saying he doesn't really want to be...legendary, he doesn't want to be the trendsetter and the yada yada yada that fashion makes him out to be. But it's so very odd, I went to the store recently to check out those new gowns and they are wonderful; nothing brilliant going on in the tailoring or the construction but they're still great, MJ pieces. This new stuff doesn't hold up but MJ is far too...intellegent (?) to flip flop like that without it being on purpose.

I loved this...the colors were so beautiful

all of the sparkly jackets/dresses/skirts were nice & great for mixing up with jeans etc. the cocktail dresses were just gorgeous :o

hate the shoes :yuk:

so so so tired, and boring, and over...

the onyl pieces I sort liektwhere the lose ruffled dresses

teh shoes are ugly IMO

I agree that it's shapeless, the clothes just don't flatter the models' bodies. But I love the dress that Angela is wearing.

of course the show wasnt spectacular, i think he should work more on his presentation 'techniques' but some of the clothes (mainly the skirt numbers and the evening dresses) are absolutely adorable.
i can certainly see all the links mentioned above (more Marni than Dries in my book and true, a tiny touch of CDG) but i dont mind, i really dont.

loved the shoes but i would wear them in more unexpected colour combinations if i had a chance..

sum up> it will sell like hot cakes, in europe it will
