Marc Jacobs S/S 08 NYC

And the presentation...didn't V&R did that? It annoy me when a designer copy someone so blantantly!!

^about this... i think V&R are really working on new ways of presenting fashion... and they are like artists (like or don't like their last show... whatever they tried sthg new...)
and to me it's like a new to present a show... so I guess ppl are after this allowed to do the same... of course it seems bizarre for fashion... but in Arts it happens pretty often... for instance the white cube is everywhere now... or artists trying to curate their exhibit' (they want to kill curators!!!!!) then it can influence/inspire someonelse...

I think it's ok... and it actually shows V&R are "real" artists and not only megalomaniac...

The collection is descent. It's nice to see a different side of Marc for a while. I was getting bored with all the "pretty lady in her 30s"-styled collections.

The team he has keeping things together while he suns it down in Arizona are super, super strong, very talented, very connected. I get the clothes, I can see the emotional connections to the last collection, I get what Horyn is hinting at, I see the good, bad and ugly and the power of his emotional accuracy. His woman is the same, though he's growing up the look a bit, there's still an awkwardness mingled with desire and longing underneath the surface. I just don't get all the designer references that they clearly wanted those 'in the know' to pick up on. You start pulling up at the bloodlines and hit home pretty quickly, the things they're references are still pretty fresh. That's the only thing that really confuddles me. What I'm most happy about, nonetheless, is that the clothes dont photograph as well as they move. Its that quiet, sexy swish which keeps them from being a complete joke. Usually with his more difficult collections (which I've always loved immediately, this being an exception) the fashion crowd changes its mind by Paris and embrace it. Do any of you think that will happen here?

What a fun time I have had reading this thread after seeing the provocative collection and the details, and reading some of the chatter from the critics. It looks as though someone bombed out a really good WWII clothes closet, then a few eight year old girls got in the rubble and threw things together again. The collection looks like the aftermath of a cloth war or the tangles wreck of a pileup of cars, all the insanity of clashing colors, shreds, seams opening and closing where they shouldn't... it's kind of giddy and bubbly and crazy. :)

I love these little gold Peter Pan boots!

I love it! Fashionweek starts NOW, NY-fashionweek was boring, uninspired and for me, depressing as hell.

Leave it to Marc to push things forward. Finally, some excitement again!!!! :D YAY

The double bags are a cute idea, but something about them is repulsive. The evening bags look a bit like malignant growths on the larger bags.

Very good question. I don't know...

Personally, I have certainly changed my mind about collections and individual items, in the past, as their 'newness' has sunk in (although, nothing MJ, as of yet).

Normally I get an 'itchy', slightly irritated feeling, like a mild disgust coupled with fascination (I know, weird description! ) whilst looking at things that are just a bit too 'new' and/or challenging for me, though (that's how I know I will soon like them!); but I'm not really getting that with most of the clothing here. Depending on the look, I either feel ambivalent towards it, slightly scornful, or mildly depressed!

I suppose it really depends on whether this is just a difficult/challenging collection, or whether it is actually rather poor?

No doubt time will tell. :)

I like it but what I like more is the concept , it's like dressing up delving into your mum's clothes and piling them on. Like the Marc by Marc Jacobs girl delved into the Marc Jacobs dressing up box of influences and street styling and grew up.

^^ of course it isnt! Its fashion for fashion sake. It's DADA-inspired. Its KITCSH. Its ELEGANCE. Its all these things rolled into one crazy spectacular.

I think its more to make a statement and go polar opposite to last season - because thats what Marc is all about!

I have to say, I've agreed with about all of your comments in this thread, karma

the full video is up at marcjacobs.com
:woot: already jeez. as for the collection somne of the pieces made me laugh but over all its like what do expect from marc a bunch of trendy clothes? I think not. This is really wierd but at least its not like the rest of the NY08 snore fest.:innocent:

im not so fond of those fringes and bright colors though...

^^^ Yeah its does. i think that many do look better when they are taken in the context of the website. It funny to me how the crowd waits a little at the end before they clap tow :)

This is such a weird collection. So weird. But you know, there are some things I really love. Esp. those cool gold slippers.
