Marchesa: Few designers make a splash on the red carpet before doing so on the runway. Marchesa's Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman have done just that within a tight, two-year trajectory, raising some persnickety East Coast fashion eyebrows while triggering inevitable talk of friends in high places. (Chapman is dating Harvey Weinstein.) But guess what? It seems these two ladies know how to make a dress. Their first runway lineup offered big-event clothes that looked lovely and distinctive, with nary a generic siren in sight. Rather, the designers opted for high-waisted laces and Grecian glam, rendering both with considerable sophistication. If they had a problem, it was with their short, complicated bustier dresses. Though well executed, rather than continue the approachable glamour of the gowns, these displayed a youthful couture fixation run amok.

not persuaded by those two pics.. i'd like to see more
photos and article from wwd.com

What a waste of beautiful kimono....the embroidery lopped off and the elaborate print that underlies the beauty of a basically standard garment like the kimono rendered unreadable. Sai-so does recycling much better. However, I'm very much prejudiced, having read the Washington Post article "The Harvery Factor".

I've never liked their designs ... but the one Felicity Huffman wore to the Golden Globes .. and didnt look Marchesa. The dress Naomi wore .. I dont like ... too stiff!

bumping thread..back into the present..

Thanks Harvey Weinstein

The main reason why Marchesa is making any kind of splash is because one of the designers, Georgina Chapman, is dating Harvey Weinstein. This is why Marchesa is designing gowns for such big celebrities. It's all about the connections.
