Yeah thats right! My favourite photoshoots of marilyn are from the bert stern collection, i just love the very 60's fashion she wears, and the beautiful clean, white background in some of them, so mod!

The first and the second photos are from The Misfits
Wonderful film by the way.
Thank you for the pictures, I hadn't seen some of them before.

Thank you JenniferEdieRose for posting that! They are so gorgeous and beautiful! Bert Stern is my favourite Marilyn Monroe photographer too.
I like you particulary love the ones with the white background (for me when she has blonde hair.)
Could you please more pics taken by him? I would love to do it myself but I don't have that book The Complete Last Sitting and I don't have a scanner. But someday when I have both and have learned how to scan pictures I will post lots of Marilyn pics taken by him on this thread.
I might have asked you this before I don't remember but do you have The Complete Last Sitting? And what do you think about it?

Have you browsed through this whole thread Platinum Blonde? I think there are many photos by Stern posted. Anyway, I would love to see new material also!

The only photographical book I own of Marilyn is "Marilyn" by André De Dienes. It is brilliant, but I do wish I had more. I also own the fictional biography "Blonde" by Joyce Carol Oates, which is a very strong novel. As for "facts" and biographies of her, I have always tried to step away from that stuff, as most of it is written by people who are purely after the money and create their own theories which they find pleasing. I do think there has been one good book written about the subject, "The Many Lives of Marilyn Monroe" (cannot remember the author/editor). It is about all the myths of Marilyn. The book does not offer anything as the absolute truth, but offers many points of view.

But now I got side tracked...which photographical books of Monroe would you recommend? I am on the quest of something of high quality.

Whitelinen: Yes I have been looking through all the pages on the
Marilyn Monroe thread and there are quite a lot pics taken by Bert Stern. And I love them but I would think it would be fun to see even more.
I would recommend you to read Marilyn by Gloria Steinem and Marilyn Monroe by Donald Spoto if you haven't already read them. In the first book you can see Marilyn from a feminst perspective. I love how Gloria Steinem analyzises Marilyn. And she really seems to care about her and take her seriously.
The same with Donald Spotos book I think. It is an extremly detailed biography. I love Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates too. It is my favourite book and I have read it two times and will read many more times.
I am not really the right person to ask about photography books with her.
I don't have any yet. Maybe you can read reviews on Amazon.
I recommend the dictionary The Complete Marilyn Monroe by Adam Victor. It has a lot of pics.

Whitelinen: Marilyn: Her Life in Her Own Words Marilyn Monroe's Revealing Last Words and Photos by George Barris had many beautiful pics and the reading was very interesting. At least of the little I read before I lost the book. I wanna have the Andre De Dienes book too!

Thank you for the tips :flower:

I think I have seen "The Complete Marilyn Monroe" at a bookstore near me. From what I saw, it definetily looked good. I wonder if I could buy it to myself as a Christmas present?

I don't know why I haven't read Steinem's book about her yet, I must now. I'm not sure about Spoto's biography...I remember trying to read it once, but I felt it was another way of cashing in with someone's personal tragedies. I have also heard it is not very accurate. I don't really even want to read biographies of her, as she didn't write them herself. I feel a little bit icky reading of someone else's, albeit a public figure's, personal life when it is not written by the person in question. Books analyzing the myths or analyzing her impact on society/icon status or her film career are a different thing.

No i dont have the last sitting, but its an amazing book, so beautiful and so expensive, but for marilyn and the most amazing photographs of her, its definitly worth it. These pictures i've got just come from various sites, one great one is http://www.marilynmonroe.ca/ it was the first marilyn fan site that i thought was totally about her and her only, its fab!

I always thought marilyn looked so beautiful with blue and white backgrounds

Those three ones at the beach are from André De Dienes' book

Many pictures which I had not seen. Thank you very much :flower:

Ps. if you have a problem with the size of the pictures, you can post them as attachments (PM me if you want instructions).

Whitelinen: Of course you can by The Complete Marilyn Monroe by Adam Victor for a Christmas Present! You are doing yourself a favour imo.
Marilyn by Gloria Steinem I think you should read also. It really goes under the skin of Marilyn. The book has as you might already know a lot of pictures of her taken in the summer 1962 by George Barris. There are also a lot other photographs. I don't really remember details of the book because I don't own a copy of it. I only borrowed it from the library.
But I absolutely recommend you to read it. At least give it a chance and the same with Marilyn Monroe by Donald Spoto. I feel that he also cares and loves Marilyn a lot. Even though he sometimes imo can write unsensitive things. I believe he is one of the few of Marilyn Monroe biographers that takes her seriously and wanna clear up the myths and lies about her.
And please read Marilyn: Her Life in Her Own Words Marilyn Monroe's Revealing Last Words and Photos by George Barris.
JenniferEdieRose: Thank you again for posting pics! I love them! And for telling about he website.
So do you think you are ever gonna by The Complete Last Sitting by Bert Stern? I suppose you are. I know I will.

Marilyn Monroe Videos

I listen to a Marilyn Monroe podcast and there are also video clips of Marilyn made available to watch as well. I just though Marilyn fans might be interested in checking that out because there are quite a few rare clips of her performing in Korea and having interviews and just candid footage of her. Here is a link about it:
http://www.marilynmonroe.ca/imarilyn/imarilyn.htm

Has there ever been a good documentary done about her? I'm interested in seeing more material of her outside the film clips and hear her speak. I have seen many documentaries done about her, but they are very dodgy and are based on false information.
