Has there ever been a good documentary done about her? I'm interested in seeing more material of her outside the film clips and hear her speak. I have seen many documentaries done about her, but they are very dodgy and are based on false information.

There is like a whole documentary on her last days while on the set of 'something's got to give', its so good and she is totally beautiful in it, and you can see it all i 4 parters on u tube

ugh, very negative vibe off that doc. she came off like a spoiled vapid brat with an overinflated ego. Her actions on the set reminds me of Lohans behavior...probably mimicks monroe on that. I did not like her at all at the end of the doc. She was the original hollywood bimbo.

hahahahahahah no!..... I dont think she was, she was constantly trying to improve herself, reading very complicated and interesting books. It was the likes on Jayne Mansfield who relished the bimbo look, and dont get me wrong Jayne was also in the end trying to get away from that, but monroe was no bimbo ^_^

^ We cannot know for sure whether she was a bimbo or not. She might have well been, or then she wasn't, I do not care.

Although that probably wasnt the best documentary to see her in, reading books on marilyn are much better, the insight is much less bias towards marilyn. One i definitly recommend is GODDESS The secret lives of marilyn monroe, it was the first book i read on her and its totally facinating. Itwas huge when it came out and is one of the works which is probably the most reliable sources of her life

After reading books about her and seen documentaries. Hearing people talk about her I am 100% sure she wasn't a bimbo.

Hear hear. I used to think she was a bimbo, but that was because I only knew her by her looks and what the media said about her.

That line she said in her last interview has completely changed my perspective on Monroe. She had such a beautiful soul...

Movies like Some Like It Hot made her look imbecile, but that was because of the pressure of the Hollywood scene... She COULD have given a more credible performance if the people around her didn't treat her like an object.

When she went to the Actors Studio to rehearse... the people wouldn't even let her rehearse, which is so unfair, just because she was told her image would makeup for her acting. Her earlier movies are what really reflected her talent...

La Bordélique: I'm happy that you have changed your mind. I hope more people will. I think a lot people did it after they read Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates. Because she was really talanted and intelligent. She was a serious actress and always wanted to be better and learn more. Not just in acting but also when she was photographed in studio.
Which like in her last interview are you thinking about?
JenniferEdieRose: Thank you for sending documentary video clips.
It is also on her DVD box The Diamond Collection.

Does anyone know if Marilyn Biography: by Norman Mailer contains the same pictures as in The Complete Last Sitting by Bert Stern? Because the cover picture on Norman Mailer has a pictures of Marilyn taken from the neck and up and has a white background. I'm gonna buy the later one very soon. I finally have some money!

In the last interview before her death, close to the time of these photographs, Patricia Newcomb, her friend and press secretary, remembers that Marilyn pleaded unsuccessfully with the reporter to end his article like this:
What I really want to say: That what the world really needs is a real feeling of kinship. Everybody: stars, laborers, Negroes, Jews, Arabs. We are all brothers.

Please don't make me a joke. End the interview with what I believe.

Isn't this so beautiful?

I'm biased about what I believe. I have been interested about Monroe since I was small, and even back then what attracted me to her wasn't her films or sex symbolism, but something more interesting. I have personally never thought of her as a dumb blonde, but as a wise but misunderstood woman who chose the wrong things. I always felt she was intelligent. Still I am not sure whether I can say I believe she wasn't a "bimbo", as to know such thing I should have known her personally. She was never a great actress nor did she show any depth in her work (with the exception of The Misfits, which in my mind is her best film. I am not very interested about all the comedies she did, even if The Seven Year Itch and Some Like It Hot were funny.). She's a mystery to me.

Her dependency on drugs and alcohol and her erratic mood swings was really serious. After watching the documentary I definetly believe her death was due to on overdose and not on any other myths.

If we could only know what is myth and what is truth

You couldn't be more wrong, imo. She was always trying to get away from that stigma and hated her role in Some Like It Hot. Not only reading what others have said about her but reading her witty quotes and seeing actual footageof her make me think she was very intelligent.

JenniferEdieRose please remember to always give credit for your photo source and no reposting/photo quoting. Just quote the rest of the post you are referring to and leave off the photo tag.
