Mastermind Magazine #2 : Julia Nobis by Bruce Weber

Happy for Julia, but this picture is a bit uneventful. Benoît Hamon though, what is his name doing there?!

Jesus, talk about depressing! And this is coming from one of the greatest stylists in the fashion industry?? Its too early in this poor magazine lifetime to turn out such terrible covers. Marie-Amélie can do well to reach out to Penny Martin on how to select a shot each quarter which will withstand the test of time.

And while she's at it she can look at her price point and knock of a few pounds. No way am I prepared to pay £42 for a single copy!

Agreed. I was so looking forward to the first issue when it came out but the price just put me off.:(

MAS has really lost it for me. It didn't feel that long ago that she had the power to totally rejuvenate the editorial pages of US Vogue, render an issue of Carine's VP worthy of looking at (in latter days) and then basically ended up destroying it by departing. She even created some of the few good editorials in W's Tonchi era.

Unfortunately her current/LV era (and you know I support Nicolas' vision quite a lot, I take it for what it is and appreciate its fashion value) has been plagued by this sense of creative laziness, half-baked attempts to be progressive and over-complicated. Perhaps she's spending too much time on Instagram these days :innocent:?

Will wait and see what the content is like, but it's a very pretentious cover (and MAS was always able to validate her pretentiousness with a sharp POV/beautiful photography before) and the arrogance reeking from the price-tag is unbearable.

Might have to keep an eye on this one just for the Miyazaki feature.

It's really interesting to see that two of the most influencial french stylists decided to work for their own respective magazines covers with Weber.

One thing is sure, if Carine represents Babel's tower, MAS is on the ivory tower.

IMO MAS is as lazy as Carine. The only difference is that she is more consistent her "quality products". kina like her brand of pretentious edgy fashion but how many times are we going to see another ed with Weber, Demarcheier and the same old people?
EverytHing is either NG or LV related. I'm pretty sure this issue will also look like a glorified LV catalogue.

Even the way she chose to work with models Is very predictable. Mica, Julia and others will look like theUsual.
i really want MAS to psh herself.
Even having Benoit Hamon in this is actually predictable as his wife works for LVMH.

Loved last issue's Weber CdG feauture and the Rio edit was not all that terrible. With the kind of fashion content magazines churn out these days, I'm actually interested in seeing the edits, even if they are same old same old.

TFS Forum Community: In most cases will judge a book by its cover xD!

I own the first issue and really love it so I will not complain over the simplicity of the cover and to be honest had this magazine not been available in hard cover alone I would never consider buying it!

Wait so they're still giving a sexual predator jobs?

I know that lynch mobs are very trendy nowadays against these photographers. I’d rather these sorts of accusations and lawsuits work themselves out in the court of law and still presume the defendant(s) innocent until proven guilty, frankly.

Anyway, this brand of cold aesthetic is not my taste, but I get it: It is very predictable, trendy for a certain mood and concept of high fashion presentation. I find it all rather arrogant rather than lazy— but maybe they’re the same thing LOL: It’s because she’s MAS, so she can get away with this basic aesthetic with absolutely no production value and still charge a premium. More power to her, I guess. I’m absolutely indifferent to all this… I mean— it’s… nice enough— and totally forgettable.

Thanks StockholmFW for the pics.
