I disagree and I can provide Versace SS08 as the perfect example of a terrible collection powered up by a stellar casting.
Collection looked super cheap and tacky however the casting made it go viral, it's the most discussed Versace show ever after the Spring 1995...and that was Gianni's.
A great casting can definitely elevate a weak collection and conceal the macroscopic fit / design / quality issues.

Versace Spring 08 and Spring 95...are we on Model Tiktok or TFS?

I loved the SS 2008 collection. I think it was a fresh, relaxed interpretation of Versace and maybe a new vision of what a Versace woman could be from Donatella.

However, SS2005 is a collection I find terrible but that people (mostly men) seems to love because of the cast.

In reality, a lot of people commenting about fashion don’t care about the clothes. When you look at the comments on videos, it’s mostly models talks.

And I think that in general, people who talks about fashion don’t look at it from a broader POV. They don’t have or know people in their direct environment wearing the clothes or experiencing the lifestyle, so sometimes, they don’t get it. And it seems like context also is missing.

I agree that a great casting can elevate terrible clothes but sometimes, things are just impossible to save.

Versace had some GREAT hits in the 2000s and right up until 2012. S/S 2008 was a rare miss, but as @Lola701 noted it has the undeserved privilege of being talked about more because of the cast and soundtrack. The whole thing was such a campfest. Not unlike some of Karl's work.

I wonder how Blazy feels about those sorts of interpretations. It's hard to tell and judge sometimes until collections are viewed retrospectively.

I think you misread her post tho, Lola was specifically pointing out that most comments on videos of the SS05 show were from men discussing the cast rather than the supposedly terrible clothes.

Oh no, I actually believe that.
I think SS2005 had some nice eveningwear but as a whole, I find the collection rather tacky. Terrible in terms of daywear but not as terrible as SS2004 for example.

SS2007 was the rebirth of Versace really or at least a revitalized Version of Versace. The Peak of that era is for me FW2008. That collection was I must say sumptuous and probably one of the best collection Donatella ever designed. And it was also an era (2007-2011) where she was influenced by Gianni but never quoted him. Then she started to make more direct references…

But back to SS2005. I can totally understand why people love it but for me the strength of the collection is the cast and the soundtrack. And that has always been the unfair advantage of Versace at that time. A cast of glamazon stomping on the runway does it for everybody!

For me I actually really enjoy the tackiness of Spring 2005. Especially now because at least it was done with gusto. That being said, it was a simple and plain collection but that’s why I always go back to it. Seeing the details and some of the cuts is actually rather mesmerising because of how sinuous so many of the pieces are, whereas Spring 2008 the flaws are so easy to find even in a low res video (so much puckered stretch satin and I HATE the colours and prints she did).

Spring 2008 I also found lazy in terms of cut and silhouette. Too reliant on the stretch of the fabrics to give something more “sexy” and yet the squarer cuts gave fullness in weird areas. Probably why a few looks had belts to cinch bits in.

Fall 2005, and as you say Fall 2008 are some of Donatella’s best though. Just gorgeous all over and also some great new experiments she hadn’t really touched on but did really well.

If you look at the subreddit for Chanel, I really don't think Blazy's designs are going to affect sales. It's full of junior Karens (I'm assuming) buying the most hideous items offered by Chanel, from orthopedic looking sneakers to sandals that will fall apart after six wears. It's full of debates about which purse is an "investment" and then trying to convince themselves that, yes, the Chanel garbage bag IS a great purse and crying when the flaps of their purses aren't aligned perfectly. Frankly, I'm obsessed.

@PDFSD He sounds no more vacuous and empty than most other fashion designers these days. I mean, this is a wild comparison to make on tFS, but it's like when I hear athletes speak on the radio (before I change the station). Same empty voice, same boring comments, etc. It is what it is.

i read a few of his interviews and even in context he sounds dry, the following paragraph to his mega-craft quote is him talking about natalie portman in closer wearing jeans and a tank top. hes a very capable and intelligent individual but he sounds bland, also we dont need context when we can see his lack of humour in BV's stiff looking coats and pants

i think even out off context it still shows his individuality which is bland and more importantly no distinctive point of view as in an total point view...also if he had said more interesting things i am sure we would see it quoted in coming months leading up to his forst shopw end of the year is a long time :-)

but happy to read full interviews if any one has a good one ....on video i rarely seen him talk so far
