Matthieu Blazy - Designer, Creative Director of Chanel

I’m sorry but that comparison is so forced. There’s no similarity between him and SDS whatsoever, work or personality wise. You don’t have to like either of them, but putting them together just so you can dislike by association is very contrived.
I don´t dislike by association, I just dislike each one separately (but there is some resemblance when they talk...to me at least!).

Oh, God...the resemblance to Sabato is not only physically...

☠️ Can we just go back to discussing Donatella?

LOL what a pile of pretentious word salad. Do less talking and do more designing, Blazy. The clothes should do the the talking for you.

I know I sound like a broken record, but nobody in luxury industries is in the position to be preaching about their precious 'values' to the public.

I have to defend!

I do not know Matthieu Blazy in person, but what I have heard he seems to be nice and not pretentious... but I do not know....
Well.... talking about fashion is always difficult.... what do you expect.... what do you want to hear, that is revolutionary new....

Some humans are more calm and quiet. Not every designer has the grandezza and the wit and the humour of Karl or Donatella.....
There are people who have different qualities then talking witty things.
That does not mean those people are bad designers or bad creative directors.
Storytelling and giving a vision is dependent on many things and at big conglomerates dependent on different people.

Lets see his designs for chanel. Some humans change, some humans adapt, some humans stay the same.

Fact is, that his Bottega was successfull commercially... and most people think that Blazy has emancipated from Lees Vision....

Verbal descriptions of "Vision for House XYZ", of fabrics or tailoring for the "Dior-Versace-Gucci-Chanel-Phoebe-Woman" always feel flat in Interviews... not all people are fashion poets or gifted for interviews. Fashion is beyond that.

I cannot see something wrong in Blazys interviews.

Sabato de Sarno is a different case.....

@PDFSD He sounds no more vacuous and empty than most other fashion designers these days. I mean, this is a wild comparison to make on tFS, but it's like when I hear athletes speak on the radio (before I change the station). Same empty voice, same boring comments, etc. It is what it is.
I’ve been slapped for saying this since 2021 - Matthieu lacks that charisma and spice. He is intelligent and knowledgeable, has read many books and has been to more exhibitions than most, but to me what he creates is pretty, but empty and has no life.

I don’t think his designs will change anything about the perception people have of him.

He gives me a very calm and considerate vibe as a designer.
I don’t know what people expect in terms of quotes from someone making collections for Bottega Veneta.
I don’t think Tomas Maier or Daniel Lee had long talks about their work there anyway.

With this position, Matthieu will have to talk so I’m curious to learn about it all.

I was quite convinced by the papers he had about him at BV already.

I think my fear was that he was arty in a pretentious way. The fact that he invited the TikTok « very demure » person and the Algerian Athlete at least showed me that he had enough humor and some pulse on what’s going on.

I think it’s important for a creative to take their job seriously without being too serious and trying to sound too profound.

As much as I like JWA’s work, I don’t think his interviews are that inviting for example.

I don’t go into Blazy’s Chanel with a negative biais.
Maybe some people feels like he has to be criticized before having shown anything as a punishment for « Taking Hedi’s job ». Lol.

I was thinking it as well but also the directionless modern ideas from both, from extremes of the spectrum craft extravaganza to minimal nothingness.

both seems to be easy to manage as well by the corporate sides, and have a non diva PR persona lol

looking at the stuff in store and online both make ugly modern things , both are weak ASF in world building as well.

i dont think its a bias i feel he is loved by the majority at least from my perception online and my own circles offline, i am the only one sceptical of his work at BV per example.

the judging is from his BV, that's his report card so far quotes aside or interviews aside.
the product itself even in its more pure simple stand alone is weak and ugly rtw and shoes especially.

JWA’s is annoying when he talks and pretentious but at least i feel with his ambition he pushes for something that is clear and mostly him, even its puzzled from other designers, i can believe in the world he created, without hearing or knowing him ......he creates als well desirable product all much in same modern empty vain as Blazy but there is more meat so to speak on the plate to know what you're actually eating.

blazy is very fragmented so far with his out come, raf is more clear with his world and even Peter also is more clear with his limited point of view for Alaia the shows adv the type off girls the stores the actual product standing alone all is clear even if its not technically and visionaire level for a house like Alaia.

I honestly dread the "mega-craft" of his quotes: that's where he lost me at BV, being so much into the novelties and technical innovations, and losing the overall shapes, allures and silhouettes.
And Chanel with M19 and Métiers d'Art offer too many possibilities to go wrong and overboard.

I'd welcome a palate cleanser, with simple jersey fabrics in white/beige/navy/black, back to the core of Coco's work a century ago, and nothing more. But I doubt Chanel will let him or that he is capable to do simplicity.

Well said. Like you, I am equally skeptical of his work. Everything is squeaky clean and supposedly ticks all the success boxes, and having said that I’d rather MB say nothing at all than all this very pseudo intelligent crap that’s been carefully pushed by BV PR team. Yawn.
