Matthieu Blazy - Designer, Creative Director of Chanel

Okay… not to sound like MGC… but I’m still missing it. I mean, I guess it’s all about geolocation, when I see women with 2.55s they aren’t those women, because I’m not into that crowd (not to reveal that I’m not a 1%er on tfs). I shouldn’t say it but there’s something so annoyingly pretentious about mostly male users describing the sh*tty ways they think women dress on tFS constantly lately. 👀 I get it, we should dress to please you. 🫢🙏

I mean, just save yourself the time and say it’s tacky because lots of women own it.

Edit: and you have the inverse of this going on in the Phoebe Philo thread where those women are FAKE INTELLECTUALS 😱
You don’t need to be in any crowd to see that, just open instagram and you’ll see it.

And yes, usually women dress to please males (or females) and males usually dress to please females. Dressing is a social thing. People who think that dress for themselves are just delusional. The same kind of people that would post “just got my hair cut” and then post a a booty pic, or the same kind of people that post a nude and say “it took me so much time to love myself”. Girl/boy, you just need attention and it’s fair!

And I am not saying how they should dress, I’m just describing what Instagram pr*stitutes usually look like and wear. And the Chanel 2.55 and the Boy are usually in those pics, and imo it’s great they rose the prices cause they would stay a little bit more away from them. They will go for the Satin Lady Dior or the Vernis one again 💅

Those Chanels and mini-Kellys are considered the ultimate status symbol for the insta-th*ts cum gold-diggers.
My straight friend has a trash taste in women and loves to DM those girls (he is still very aware of the transactional aspect and prefers it that way) so he is always teasing them with Chanel mini flap bags with top handle. That or any week-end in Dubai, or both, but it works every time, but never more than a couple of months. The lucky ones manage to get VC&A Alhambra or ironically Cartier Love bangles.

So yes, there is a certain association between some Chanel bags and girls living of their looks (no, not the models).
That’s it dear

Honey, the female users of tFS don’t write screeds about how they think men are trashy c*m guzzling prostitution whores in any of the male fashion threads here, so don’t play like that… 🙄

And my straight friend goes for the mini with top handle because it's still the least expensive.
As Britney once sang, "you better work b*tch" if you want a mini Kelly.
Indeed! Since they rose the prices you see less 2.55 in those instamodels pics and it’s because men are eager to pay 5/6K but 10K it’s too expensive. Also, the instamodel would prefer a mini Kelly for 8K cause it’s more of a status symbol, so well done for Chanel in that aspect

.. or make denigrating statements about gay men ‘because yah when I opened instagram, the gays were doing that’. Weird how interest and minimal effort in understanding doesn’t go both ways despite, out of all fields where you could be having the time of your life as a man (gay or not), it’s dressing women what consumes your imagination.

Befriend a woman for once and you might find out that most with advanced education, and in the real world, tend to dress for other women.

thank you for writing this ....

on both sides it's an interesting conversation for different reasons male /gay gaze and the female perspective on dressing for others and themselves etc or not ...

i do think the scale is disportionality on sl*t shaming how sexully free or direct woman want or can dress and in connection to what is considered chic or not chic or good or bad taste i have to say the matter of taste is all i am interested on here the most why some people se something as better as etc so thank you for bringing it up and others to give other perspective.

i think we should agree that what drives sales of luxury goods are a lot of illegal and unsavory actions that provide funds for these transactions its not just men gifting women Chanel bags ist everything under the rainbow.

i come to the conclusion that tackiness is much bigger part of fashion on all levels, we are blinded by our own taste levels /bubbles and social engineering of search for hierarchy among people types /tibes and codes.

hope to read more ideas and views on this here.

i think will be interesting to see how Matthieu´s general ig good taste will translate to a bigger Chanel crowd ...i do think why Chanel does well is that it has a high level of tackiness to it. this is say in the sense that you can always see its Chanel by logo or design and this KL played well with to always be on the borders of good & new tastes and what wider audiences can understand and want.

As much as we (as a forum) make fun of the taste levels of prostitutes, trophy wifes and etc, I'll admit that I do have quite an appreciation for the clientele that embraces the "trashier, tackier, less serious" side of fashion. I think that's mainly because I've never cared too much for "good taste" as a form of branding.

I know they are joking around but is Tim not supposed to have a wife and children.. lmao I actually thought for the longest time that he was gay until a few years ago.
A WIFE ?!?
I just went to Wikipedia and read this :
« Blanks has lived with his partner Jeff Lounds, a perfume specialist, in London, England since 1990. »

I don’t care about what others tfsers do. If I see something I comment about it, I don’t care if it’s a girl or boy, it doesn’t make any difference. You not writing about the appearance or likings of boys doesn’t mean a male user can’t comment on the way certain “insta female models” dress or the items they want to have.

This is a Chanel thread and Chanel has no products for men. Chanel acc, especially bags, are something that locals in Europe don’t LOVE (take it with a pinch of salt), they rather go for BV, Hermès… and you see more 2.55 on the instamodels than in locals these days… and imo it was cheapening the brand.

I can say the same for Dior menswear (and I did in the past in the KJ thread). Usually the male customer is super tacky: pr*stitutes, Reggeaton singers, dealers, etc. To me that cheapens the brand, and I have nothing against people being prostit*tes. But it’s a fact.

The Loro Piana customers are not the same as the Dior menswear. You love Dior menswear? Great for you. Nothing against it. If a relate a product to a kind of person that from my point of view has 0 taste, it cheapens that brand.

But bringing this topic (and every topic in the world) to the feminist approach is exhausting.

That said, all the successful brands have that. But it comes to a point when it’s not sustainable (Gucci). It’s so cheap that wealthy people don’t consider it anymore as a luxury destination.

I know some locals don’t like Chanel bags now (except the garbage bag) because they are related to “cheap” people. It works like that. In my case, I’d never consider Vuitton/Gucci/Dior under KJ because I find it super cheap. I see somebody with a LV leather good or scarf and to me they belong to the cheap people kingdom. Can’t help it.

The truth is that lot of brands compromise their refinement to get bigger… but you should know how to play between the cheap and the refined. Once you are only sought after for the cheap things the comeback is hard.

Edit: also, I was told by a Chanel SA that since a few years ago (when it was starting to become cheap) alledgely they were told to pick the clients and not sell it to everybody… because it was starting to be unsustainable.

Look at Fendi… you see Fendi now and it screams cheap. It’s pure cringe and I t’s because they went through a cheapening process under KJ. And I feel Chanel has been doing the same these past years. There is no item where you don’t find a logo. In the past they always played the game but it felt different. Now it feels too cheap for me.
