Wow for once readers get it right minus emrata - adeduwa may have less following but her posts have been so important

I'm really surprised Reader's Choice was someone less known like Sora, Kaia would've been my first guess. They didn't have the Comeback category this year, which is good as they had Raquel as a nominee like every year.

Wow, the Reader's Choice winners aren't bad at all this year. Nice to see some good change

I don't know if this stupid, probably is, but MDC should make Stella as a legend posthumously. The flavor text they've written themselves already says "She's legendary now." and she'll always be. No other model compares to her.

tbh i don't think there should be seperate icons and legends lists - it would be easier if they categorized models by their eras (60,70,80s,90s etc) so they could feature models who have already passed away or are not working anymore. but yeah i agree, stella is a legend.

Well it's nicer to have a list of models who at least work a little bit still, even after 30, 20 or 10 years, that is what makes them iconic or legendary. Otherwise it'd be just a listing of 1000 models.

i just find it weird that some legendary models are on the legends list and some are not. for example twiggy should be in the list too with veruschka and lauren hutton. like not every single model of all time should be listed but the ones who made actual impact in the industry, working now or not. gia has been dead for decades now but everyone still knows who she is. having seperate legends, icons and new supers lists is just very confusing me.

They do have their own "rules" about who should belong to each rank, even though they follow them quite loosely. Twiggy just had a Vogue Greece cover and she's definitely worked more than Veruschka in the 2000's so she should be a Legend, but that's MDC for you.

I know I’ve said this before, but they need to get rid of New Supers & merge those models in with Icons.

After that, they need to re-evaluate who actually belongs on “The Establishment” & “Next Generation” respectively and make some adjustments.

They also need to either stick to their requirements for their lists/rankings or update them and make them less strict.

Top 50 is surprisingly not bad overall, but I suspect one of those spots can be bought with the questionable decisions they’ve made lately in who they’ve added.

The Hot List should be called the Hot Mess List bc it’s out of control. They are either way too quick to add models who have a little blip of success, they add them way too late to the list when they have already established themselves beyond what that list is meant for, or they leave them on there forever & do not remove them even after the peak of their career has long passed.

They still haven't taken Stella off the Icons, while in the real world it makes very little difference, I still hope they never will, unless... *cough* Legend *cough*

They also tried to make an effort to make a nice article about her passing and about her career, it's just what they wrote...

"She subsequently appeared on covers for magazines like Vogue Italia, W, i-D, and British Vogue before announcing her retirement from modeling in 1998 when she became pregnant with her first child. Still, she continued to pop up via special request with her past collaborators, having worked with Teller for a Saint Laurent campaign and recently opening the Valentino’s Spring couture show back in January."

Maybe she did say something about retiring back in 1998, but why would they be like it actually happened? Why not celebrate the magnificent career she actually had?

Sora has a following of hardcore fans, so I’m not surprised she won.

No hate on Adut, but I feel like 2019 was more her big year than 2020?

Added to Industry Icons:

Kiki Willems
Rianne Van Rompaey
I'm convinced these lists are trolls. Kiki? I actually like Kiki but I would not call her an icon. I doubt she'll be remembered by the next generation or 5-10 years from now.

I'll be judged for this maybe but I've never ever understood Kiki's appeal. She looks like an actress trying to pose as a model. That hair color always looks so cheap and how the hair just hangs flat and limp in every picture. So many models have been called off here, giving the same expression in every shot and she shouldn't be an exception. She's never had a major cover, all of them have been MG/MC, even the VI one. That's my rant right there, thank you and sorry

No, I completely agree with you that this is a questionable move.

While I give her credit for her longevity and consistent runway, campaign and editorial booking, I feel like she has not really had a lot of OG print work that would justify icon status. I also believe it is too soon for Rianne even though I don't doubt she will be around much longer and continue to be successful. They both debuted in 2014 if Google is right? By that logic, they might as well bump Vittoria up to the New Generation Industry Icons even though she first really made it big in 2016. But what does it really matter...the list has been a joke for years.

Freja Beha and Sasha Pivovarova should be moved to the Establishment. Out of the models that feel out of place next to Rianne, Kiki and Grace Hartzel??? (Stam, Trentini, Crystal Renn, Iselin Steiro, Coco and Cameron) they have stayed relevant and still book blue chip campaigns. If 15+ years in the industry is their main criteria, both Sasha and Freja fulfil that criteria.

I have to say though that I applaud models.com for not making Irina Shayk a New Super, whatever that is.
