“ZORRO” ARRIVES IN SANTIAGO
Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, best known for roles in “Zorro” and “Desperado,” arrived Sunday with his wife Melanie Griffith on a private plane from Brazil. This visit marks the superstar’s first-ever appearance in Santiago.
The actor moved up his arrival date due to a packed schedule that will see him participating in conferences, promotions and autograph signings during his three-day stay in the capital.
“I am very excited to finally be here,” he said. Sources claim he has a planned meeting Tuesday morning with President Michelle Bachelet at the presidential palace, La Moneda.
After arriving his first order of business was to give a press conference at the Hyatt Hotel where he and Griffith are staying.
Hours later he took part in perhaps the most important activity of his trip: a charity event at the offices of UNICEF which presented an early stimulation manual — called Time to Grow — to mothers in the program Bridge of Chilean Solidarity. At the office he met with Chile’s UNICEF ambassadors, Benjamín Vicuña and Iván Zamorano.
On Monday night he also participated in the hit Chilean show “Locos por el Baile,” where he was interviewed by host Sergio Lagos.
On Tuesday Banderas will participate in a gala dinner at the Grand Hyatt where he will promote his new cologne — Blue Seduction — which is a primary reason for his visit. After the banquet he will preside over a charity auction. He and his wife will then depart Wednesday for Buenos Aires.
