Michael Rider - Designer, Creative Director of Celine

I do expect a lot. If he is unsure in his abilities I would like for him to be copy cat of Hedi like AV in Saint Laurent. Bcs I do like and buy most of Celine Menswear. So if I get a teddy bear or some another animal on sweatshirt or jumper I will be very pissed. Don’t want to see childish stuff on my clothes. I L OV E D everything Hedi was doing. Literally have stuff from clothes, bags, shoes and accessories. Let’s wait and see!
Everything including this?

I've been watching some of the silly pieces from the tiktok shows morph into desired collectors' items almost overnight on other forums since the announcement of Hedi's departure. That sweater with the mouth biting the Celine monogram, that clown sweater with the yarnball nose, the heavy chain jewelry especially from Teen Knight, the palm tree and leopard print stuff. I doubt they'll get worn much (collectors will reach for one of their thirty leather jackets first), but there's a market for them as trophies among the fandom.

No but my point is that there’s this intransigence expected from Rider as if Hedi hasn’t produced trash.
Indeed the fandom will try to justify and intellectualize everything Hedi does but if Rider venture into the same kind of trash, I don’t see any reason to be disappointed. At best, it could be seen as him « going back to their Archives » 😊😊😁

TIKTOK REFERENCES HAVE BEEN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE CODES OF THE HOUSE OF CELINE SINCE VIPIANA FIRST BEGAN ACCEPTING COMMISSIONS TO DRESS CHILD STARS IN 1372...

It's understandable that most people are more willing to put in the time and thought to give something a chance if it's made by someone whose other work they (on balance) understand and enjoy. If Rider's lucky, Philo Celine customers will give him that chance.

Maybe hindsight is 20/20 for the fandom because there was plenty left over.

A lot of those trophies were always in the lvmh employee online sales lol. It’s not like they were rare and unavailable.

Rider will be fine, I’d say it’s easier to design on what Hedi built at Celine. It’s all basics honestly. Of course I’ll miss the Hedi youthfulness and rock edge but that’s it.

In hindsight I love the two 2020 menswear collections. It feels like Hedi felt pressure to deliver something new from him and did absolutely that but maintaining that sleek styling he has. I’d love more pieces from Teen Knight, but from what I’ve seen those aren’t even trickling down at employee sales.
