If you haven't heard this story, prepare to be disgusted. It's one of the most horrific things I've ever heard of :yuk::cry:

For those outside of the US, Michael Vick is a football quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons and a very popular (and well-paid) sports star.
Details

SURRY, Va. - A property owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was used as the “main staging area for housing and training the pit bulls involved” in an alleged dogfighting operation, according to court documents.
The papers, filed by federal authorities, give details for the first time about what authorities contend was a long-running dogfighting venture. Vick is not named in the documents.
Vick is unlikely to be indicted, ESPN reported. Authorities have told the Falcons and the NFL that there has not been any evidence that can be tied to Vick with the alleged dogfighting ring, ESPN reported.

The law enforcement authorities have privately told league and team officials that at least three people are expected to be indicted but the identities of those individuals were unknown.
On Friday, federal agents searched the property for a second time, using a backhoe to dig in an area about 10 feet wide by 20 feet wide. They finished their work at about 4:30 p.m. and declined to answer reporters’ questions as they left.
The documents filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Richmond and obtained Friday by The Associated Press contain the address of the Vick property that has been at the center of the investigation.
According to the documents, dog fights have been sponsored by “Bad Newz Kennels” at the property since at least 2002. For the events, participants and dogs traveled from South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, New York, Texas and other states.
Members of the venture also knowingly transported, delivered and received dogs for animal fighting, the documents state.
Fifty-four pit bulls were recovered from the property during searches in April, along with a “r*pe stand,” used to hold dogs in place for mating; an electric treadmill modified for dogs; and a bloodied piece of carpeting, the documents said.
The documents said the fights usually occurred late at night or in the early morning and would last several hours. The winning dog would win from “100’s up to 1,000’s of dollars,” and participants and spectators also bet on the dogfights.
Before fights, the participating dogs of the same sex would be weighed and bathed, according to the filings. Opposing dogs would be washed to remove any poison or narcotic placed on the dog’s coat that could affect the other dog’s performance. Sometimes participants would not feed a dog before the fight to “make it more hungry for the other dog,” the documents said.
Fights would end when one dog died or with the surrender of the losing dog, which was sometimes put to death by drowning, strangulation, hanging, gun shot, electrocution or some other method, according to the documents. The prerty has an aboveground swimming pool, and investigators were seen looking into the pool Friday.
During a June search of the property, investigators uncovered the graves of seven pit bulls that were killed by members of “Bad Newz Kennels” following sessions to test whether the dogs would be good fighters, the documents said.
Members of “Bad Newz Kennels” also sponsored and exhibited fights in other parts of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey and other states, the filings said.
On Vick’s Web site, he lists his birthplace as Newport News, Va., “a.k.a. BadNews.”
Friday, federal agents used shovels and heavy equipment to search the Vick property, where an informant told authorities as many as 30 dogs could be buried.
A backhoe-front loader was brought in and used to excavate a cleared area on the property. The material found to be of interest was transferred into numerous large, ice-filled coolers and loaded into a rental truck, which left the property.
Some of the investigators wore T-shirts reading: “Federal Agent USDA-OIG.”

An Associated Press reporter and photographer viewing the investigation from a helicopter could not clearly identify the evidence being collected.
Investigators were digging in an area about 50 yards behind the large white house on the property. About 15 people could be seen on the property, which includes several kennels surrounded by pens made of metal fencing, other kennels and outbuildings.

Located in southeast Virginia, the expansive property has a metal gate at the entrance and a white plastic fence around the perimeter. The fence and a large two-story building painted black behind the home obscured the work of investigators.
More than 15 vehicles were on the property, including the rental truck and at least one Virginia State Police evidence collection truck.
Corinne Geller, a spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police, said state authorities were working with federal investigators in an “assistance capacity.”

Although at the time there was no evidence of wrong-doing on his part, he has been indicted on conspiracy charges.

Article on dog fighting from MSNBC

I hope he is convicted on all charges and banned from professional sports for life. The evidence against him is deep and I can't begin to say what he truly deserves. Dogs on his property were drowned, thrown in water and electrocuted, taken by the hind legs and blugeoned to death, and made to sit in "r*pe stands" where male dogs would mount unwilling female dogs.

A fellow GN enthusiast had the best idea:

'I have no patience for people who abuse animals, throw his a$$ in jail and take his salary for the prison time and donate it to animal shelters.'

Personally, I hope he gets mauled by inmates.

I agree! And his excuse was so pathetic. He blamed it on his family and said he had no clue what was going on. Since then many people have stepped foward and stated that Michael Vick personally bought dogs from them and that he was involved in the whole ring. In fact, he is supposedly a major player in the whole underground dog fighting scene.

How barbaric. I also believe if people have no respect for animals, they have no respect for other people too. Best to keep them away from society and rehabilitate them for a while.

Ugghhhh...that is digusting & wrong...and to think...I used think he was cool in the NFL...I hope he is never alowed to play football again...I hope he gets what's coming...

Sickening. :( I really hope he's banned from football for life as well as sent to jail.

Animal cruelty makes me so mad.......

His team, Atlanta Falcons, should be picketed and boycotted until they fire him.

People should picket his road games and refuse to buy tickets.

I agree...
what the hell is wrong with these kinds of people?
It makes me very sad and makes me think the world is doomed.

The truly pathetic thing is that the NFL is allowing him to play and his endorsements are still in effect. So he's still making plenty of money. Sad.

I know he looks plenty guilty...
but this is USA and they presume innocence until proven guilty.
There would be a huge stink if he were fired then later cleared of the charges.

But if it was up to me he'd be fired!!! That's for sure.

Suspension or releasing of contracts has nothing to do with whether or not a person is convicted of a crime! A player can be suspended for missing practices, talking back to a coach, etc.

Kobe Bryant lost many of his contracts over the whole r*pe debacle and he was never convicted of any crime and lost a civil suit. Pac Man Jones is suspended for a year after being arrested a bunch of times, even if he wasn't convicted. And his crimes seem downright petty compared to these.

I don't follow sports really so didn't know they can just be cut for the bad behavior...
I didn't know Kobe lost contracts either. Thought he just lost all of his appeal.
I would say this qualifies for sure then!!!

I heard this disturbing news on the radio last night. Horrendous! :furious:

This is so terrible. I have 2 dogs and reading this article makes me so angry and sad at the same time. If someone ever attempted to do such a thing to my dogs I would go postal!:angry: Yes Michael is a talented athlete, but I hope he gets a hefty sentence for such a cruel act. No animal deserves such treatment.

This is truly disgusting and he and everyone else involved deserve to rot.

My understanding is that because the commissioner Goodell had a private conversation with Vick, his suspension would be some sort of admission on their part of knowledge about the incident. But the testimony of some NFL officials has been subpoenaed.

Basically the NFL has NO control over its idiotic players. 10 players from the Bengals have been arrested in the past year and a half!

How can someone do such horrible things to animals, and treat it as a hobby? It's completely disgusting; I hope he doesn't get off because of his status. I just don't understand how you could do such a thing...

Oh, and he didn't know what he was doing? BULLS**T! To say that he didn't know what he was doing is almost worse, like he didn't understand how wrong it was!
