Miley Cyrus

I'd be perfectly happy to see Miley push the boundaries - in her art, i.e., music, which is rather lame pop imo. This reeks of attention-seeking, as does the constant tongue thing. :P

I actually lauded her initial change in image, her short hair, her growing away from her child stardom.

But this is getting a little ridiculous. It's all so calculated - first the twerking episode, then the sleazy Terry photos (the guy has zero talent, and I never praise his work, not in fashion magazines, not with celebs, never), and then the Rolling Stone cover.

How about trying to sell albums via your music instead of all this other crap. It's tired. I know others have done it and I didn't really admire it then either (though I agree with Phuel that Madonna was more of a trail-blazer and there was more emphasis on how her persona aligned with her musical output at the time). Usually this sort of surface emphasis signals an emptiness underneath.

I just hope this girl doesn't crash and burn. I have absolutely nothing against her as a human being, just her actions in the media lately.

There is a great post on tumblr that sort of describes where I'm at..
team: Miley I Love How Confident You Are And I Totally Support Your Do-Wutteva-You-Want New Vibe And I Couldn’t Give A **** About People Thinking You Are Inappropriately Sexual Or Any Other sl*t Shamey bullsh*t But You’ve Also Crossed A Line Concerning Racism And Cultural Appropriation and Exploitation Of Black Culture And It Feels Like You Don’t Even Care

this isn't even including the fact that she has mocked people with mental disorders as well as a plethora of other issues i cant be bothered to get into right now...

That's a brilliant tumblr post and I think it sums up my thoughts. I've actually come to accept her trashy image as it's clearly the way that she wants to express herself and there is nothing wrong with that. However, It's quite obvious she's surrounded by people who say 'yes' to her all the time and that prevents her from seeing that her cultural appropriation and mocking of mental illnesses is wrong

Miley Cyrus shows off her toned abs while attending her Bangerz Album Signing at Planet Hollywood Times Square on Tuesday (October 8) in New York City.

Earlier in the day, the 20-year-old entertainer promoted her album and performed during an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

FYI: Miley is wearing a Celine necklace with Tuk shoes.

You mean her mocking Sinead O'Connor's mental illness? Or, is she actually making fun of the mentally-ill?

I hardly doubt she's surrounded by Yes-men. The current state of pop music is so dire, and vile, and it's the lowest common denominator that sells. She and her handlers are just pimping her in that direction because they know it'll get attention, create controversy, turn the suburban kids on to r*tchet-Miley, and mostly, sell. They've succeeded at all of that. If her "expressing herself" didn't convince her handlers it would sell, I highly doubt she would be able to do it.

I actually like her two Terry-directed videos. The songs they're meant to promote are rather generic Will.i.am dreck that could have sung by anyone-- so the images and the videos really succeed in giving them an identity. The videos are very low, but there's a certain finesse to them that never looks like a mess. They are pervy and crass-- but still fun. Terry is all shades of gross, but as a product, I think these videos work. It's all gloss-- there's no need to think beyond r*tchet nekkid Miley. (I do find it funny that she apparently claimed the "Wrecking Ball" video was inspired by Sinead's "Nothing Compares 2 U" video... I don't see it. I guess when Miley's doing her "emoting" in the closeup scenes is suppose to be equivalent of Sinead's closeup with the single teardrop running down her cheek? Whatever, Miley.)

I'm going to listen to Frank Ocean and Neneh Cherry, and watch Madonna's "Nothing Really Matters" video now to remind myself that pop can be awesome.

Well I am not okay with exploitation/appropriation of another culture, but I am not okay with her other forms of "expressing herself" right now either. It's all pretty gross to me. It's all about her body now - how much of it can she reveal?

There's another artist who really, erm, exposes herself on stage, but it's in keeping with her music; they are both meant to affront and to express a kind of female empowerment. I am talking about Peaches.

I don't think this thing with Miley is about empowerment at all - not self empowerment or female empowerment. That's not the vibe I get.:ermm:

How many of you claiming she's not a real artist have listened to her new CD in full?

Her whole "r*tchet" phase is so lame. If it looked even remotely genuine I wouldn't mind, but it's obvious everything is calculated. It's off putting because the songs I've heard from her new album are good, girl should just put the gimmick aside and let the music speak for itself.

all this nonsense is the Madonna effect she and Lady Gaga has emulated the queen of self-promotion, Madonna was the first who constantly kept her name in the papers thru scandal and shock tactics from her dress to her behavior, I don't think Miley is smart enough emotionally to carry out her shenanigans without having a nervous breakdown unlike Madonna who can endure hardship to get where she is because she had no role models, she planned everything, where as Miley is a copier and when things go south she won't be able change course because she's only watching someone who's done it but not having the mental thought of what is truly happening to her

I'm pretty sure Miley and her handlers know this won't last. This is a new age where everything blows up fast and it's on to the next thing. She's taking advantage of her time at the top, so good for her.

I listened to BANGERZ. I think it's a decent pop album and Miley has a very nice and strong voice. She's a good singer but she's not an artist to me. She's a pop star having her moment. If you feel she's an artist, then that's fine too. Everyone has different standards when it comes to art.

Yeah Jane, Miley isn't fooling anyone if she actually thinks she's empowering herself/ women by defining r*tchet. It's such a cop-out to be stank and claim it's all in the name of female empowerment. But I don't think she claims she's empowering girls-- just "doing her thing"... She's got a successful gimmick, and nothing more. That pic posted above by MartiniKiss where Miley's dry-humping the mushroom-guy is so pathetic it's funny. She's like that SNL character Mr. Peepers, humping anything. Someone should tell her it's all so embarrassing. But she really seems to be having fun and enjoying all the attention, so... good for her, I suppose.

I really like this. Dignified Miley is nice:

I think Miley knows what she is doing. IMO, it's all a ploy to get attention and it's working.

Miley was good on Jimmy Fallon. Both of the songs she performed "Wrecking Ball" and the acapella version of "We Can't Stop" were good. I do think she is a talented singer.

I saw her performance of "Wrecking Ball" on Ellen and she is a good singer, she doesn't need this current "behaviour".

she sounded pretty 'together' during her interview with Ellen. maybe she really is in control of this whole mess....:innocent:

in any case, i've never paid much attention to Miley and i suddenly (reluctantly and somewhat ashamedly) am... so perhaps it's working. i thought she looked really quite beautiful on Ellen, which is a great surprise given how trashy her style has been lately. i thought she pulled off the overalls, and her hair was great. frankly, i'm just relieved she can somewhat sing... that's more than T Swift has going on.... :innocent:

I have ZERO problem with anyone showing their skin. I mean, it's her body. It's her choice what she wants and doesn't want to show. I just have an issue with the ugly clothing she's using to help do that

Miley Cyrus offered $1 million to make p*rn film

1Bosses of an adult film company have offered Miley Cyrus $1 million to direct a p*rn movie.

In a letter obtained by TMZ.com, a representative for GameLink praises the Wrecking Ball singer's vision as an artist and sides with her amid controversy over her recent raunchy image.

They go on to pay tribute to Cyrus' attempts to shake off her child star past, and offer to help her complete her transformation by directing a sex film for the company.

In the letter, a GameLink boss writes, "GameLink would like to offer you the very lucrative opportunity to direct an adult film, giving you full creative control, for ONE MILLION dollars... We at GameLink feel this gives you a chance to finally show the world you are not a little girl anymore... "

Former Hannah Montana star Cyrus has shocked fans and critics in recent weeks by stripping naked for the promo to her hit Wrecking Ball and performing a raunchy routine with singer Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.

Cyrus had not commented on the GameLink offer as WENN went to press.
