Miu Miu showing in paris?

Hum ... It seems like a bold move to boost Miu Miu's sales .. Prada cant do better than what is doing ... and I guess giving a bit of exposure to its lil label-sister wud be VERY good for bussiness ... the thing's I dunno if it fits ... well in Paris everything does ... but still it makes me go "Hum...".

Errm ... Funny how everyone comments about Paris being a creative center ... with this news I wudnt be surprised if Milano FW all of a sudden becomes the new London FW (read ... creatively deserted!)

On another note ... it def. would be much commercially viable for designers/labels/models and buyers to downsize and have like TWO big fashion weeks ... it wud be a week-long fashiorgasm on both sides of the Atlantic (european for me, please! ..you know the french! *grins*)

I cannot concur with you more Lena. Although I do think for designers in countries such as Belgium and Austria,it's just easier because not only is it close but the important buyers are there. To them,I don't think it really has anything to do with Paris as a fashion capital or even it being more important in that sense. Paris is just kind of convenient.

But as for Miu Miu...I think it's just another ploy attempt Miuccia is taking of what's already so obvious. All the energy is in Paris indeed so perhaps she's just trying to capture some of it for marketing purposes. I mean, really,Miu Miu hasn't been as exciting these last few seasons.

But Milano...it is rather stagnant. They never really move forward-a couple designers here and there but overall the old money luxury brands, tackily trendy labels and commerce head the way in Milano.

As for London,I think the energy is coming back. London has been the strongest I've seen in recent seasons...and having been sapped of the established designers that made London so Internationally renowned,I actually think not having them has paved the way for much smaller labels and talents to push forward. And really, designers like Preen who never got a alot of wide-spread attention before are kind of leading the way now. But that's just my assesment

I very much agree. The excitement is slowly but solemnly dripping back inti London. S/S 06 was the first season in years that really knew how to entertain me. I discovered many new names that I really liked. That is one of the advantages when everyone leaves. You leave space for new people.

MIU MIU IN PARIS?

MIU MIU may be moving to Paris come March. According to sources in Milan, Miuccia Prada has requested a slot on Sunday March 5, the penultimate day of Paris Fashion Week, for her more affordable second line. While a Prada spokesperson in Milan told WWD that the company has optioned February 24 to unveil the latest Miu Miu offerings in Milan, the label's reputation for globetrotting – showing in New York for three seasons from 1994 and in London in 1997 before returning to Milan – means a Parisian move is far from unthinkable. Miu Miu Makes Move to Paris Show
By Miles Socha

Published: Wednesday, February 08, 2006

PARIS — Signaling a strategic push for her more affordable and experimental ready-to-wear line, Miuccia Prada will show her Miu Miu collection March 5 during Paris Fashion Week instead of in Milan.

This confirms a WWD report of Jan. 12. A Prada spokesman said Tuesday the firm is finalizing a location for the runway show, but declined further comment. Miu Miu's Paris show is tentatively scheduled at 3 p.m. on a day that also boasts shows by Valentino, Lanvin and Louis Vuitton.

That one of Italy's most influential designers is decamping to the French capital underscores its reputation as the premier global showcase for creative fashions, home as it is to major designers from France, England, Japan, Belgium, Holland and beyond. Valentino and Costume National are among Italian brands that already show in Paris.

The move also comes as when Prada Group is putting major muscle behind Miu Miu, whose spring advertising campaign features actresses Kim Basinger and Camilla Belle.

The shift to Paris also will help distance Miu Miu from the flurry of second lines that clutter Milan Fashion Week, from Blugirl and Just Cavalli to Moschino Cheap & Chic.

It is understood Miuccia Prada is keen to leverage Miu Miu's distinct identity — even allowing it to compete for glory with her main collection, which she presents in Milan Feb. 21. During men's fashion week in Milan last month, the Miu Miu collection garnered more ecstatic praise than the main Prada line.

Launched in 1992 and named after its creator's nickname, Miu Miu was initially billed as affordable "antifashion fashion" and is synonymous with funky footwear and sophisticated, youthful clothes with retro airs. It has often associated itself with emerging artists, actors and musicians, populating its ad campaigns with the likes of Chloë Sevigny and Ludivine Sagnier. But in recent seasons, Miu Miu has carved out a higher positioning in its pricing, styling and product assortments.

The label has a history of globe-trotting and moved its show to the U.S. for three seasons starting in 1994. Miu Miu showed once in London in 1997 before returning again to Milan.

Miu Miu has 27 directly operated stores, plus four franchises, and is believed to generate revenues in excess of 110 million euros, or about $131.7 million at current exchange rates.

Lapérouse is the venue for Sunday's Miu Miu show.

TABLE HOPPING: Lapérouse, one of the oldest and most atmospheric restaurants in Paris, will be the location for the Miu Miu show on Sunday, WWD has learned. Invitations for the hotly anticipated show are expected to be delivered starting today. Details about Miuccia Prada's debut in the French capital have been shrouded in such secrecy that, naturally, people at the shows have been speaking about practically nothing else. Prada Group remains tight-lipped about other details of the show, and rumblings about any after-party. Housed in a 17th-century townhouse along the Seine River, Lapérouse boasts a warren of private rooms with boiserie galore and mirrors that are scratched, as local lore goes, by mistresses unsure of the veracity of the diamonds given by their lovers. To be sure, it is small. Normally, the restaurant's main room seats a mere 60 people, plus about 60 more in the private rooms and salons.

Does anybody here have any idea when the next Miu Miu fashion show will take place in Paris? Thx

but Miu Miu was already showing in Paris last October, isn't it ?
The thing is that fashion editors don't have the time and energy to spend a whole month fashion-weeking...so the brand who wants to be seen have to be where the fashion editors are. But it's true that for exemple, if all the english brand would have stayed in London (Alexander McQueen, Stella Mc Cartney, Vivienne Westwood, Mathew Williamsson, etc etc....), maybe people would have been forced to go there. It's just sad for the fashion life of their own country !

I mean for the next upcoming fashion weeks in Paris in February/March 2007!

The next Miu Miu fashion show in Paris will be at March 4
