Model Casting S/S 2025

I would love to know the real tea on Luis. It seems Gigi agreed to shut up on the issue whereas Bella wouldn’t. Hence why one is the Gen Z princess and the other is… there

Surely that was. Despite the less-appealing sides of modeling during that decade as I wrote before, the "process" and the excitement it used to bring was clearly miles and miles above what we have now. There was no Instagram and other tools (or toys?) like that and when a new face came out of the blue, you had to dig deep to find out who she was etc. I recall convos here with the likes of @Faith Akiyama or @mariemaud among others, trying to find out where this or that newcomer came from, what was her mother agency, does she have polaroids somewhere etc. Same with magazines, we didn't get a zillion covers for an issue, had to wait until it hit the bookstore shelves (unless some keen model agent gave us a hint every now and then) before have the delightful surprise (or sometimes big disappointment). We used to be true detectives and patient, passionate hunters relentlessly looking for what will thrill us for days. Now we just sit down and watch, squeezed or smashed by the overload of information available, even against our will.
Miss that era a lot too. The industry (With everyone at fault outside of the models themselves) has been extremely irresponsible with the way it has turned the runways into literal conveyor belts, and the issue has only worsened exponentially since quarantine ended.

Diversity and the expansion of opportunity should by all means be celebrated, but there still needs to be curation from scouts, care and loyalty from casting directors/stylists/brands, and tedious management from agents at every step. It's not about throwing 100 new faces into the mix every season and abandoning 98 of them the next - that's just another way of ruining the mental well-being of young people and the business overall.

Many of us also forget that there is a lack of "follow-up" as well to really sustain model careers. Ever since the likes of Meisel slowed down with projects and other photographers of that era departed (Good riddance in some cases of course), the concept of the traditional model muse faded away as well. David Sims is the only one in recent memory who has successfully pushed someone (Karolina S) into the limelight as of late. And the disappearance of editorial overall - I mean goodness, almost all Vogue covers are reprints now - is basically the final nail in the coffin. When even top new runway faces get no presence elsewhere, no one becomes memorable and decision makers are more satisfied with "moving on."

Hana Soukupova sight for sore eyes at Balmain!

Add Karmen Pedaru to the list too... the Christophe Decarnin girls.

And then Paulina Porizkova just randomly coming out after Olivier took his bow!

Her previous one was Philipp Plein F/W 2015, the one before that God knows when.

Hana Soukupova, Karmen Pedaru and Siri Tollerod (!!) for Balmain.
Btw one of the weirdest castings... the girls looked very fragile and skinnier than ever.

Wasn't there Miss Rubik herself at Dior (I think).
Makes me miss those Paris days even more.

Merci.:bunny::ninjas:
You sort of literally stole these words from my mouth.

Random list of girls I thought about...
Signe Veiteberg seems to have completely disappeared and is doing shows in Australia now.
Lainey Hearn having a rocky (third?) season.
Hannah Motler & Giselle Norman, one show each.
Sara Grace, and Malika Louback, Sherry, zero so far.
Steinberg and America slowed down.

Glad to see Yilan doing decently ok. Ida doing ok as well. Victoria Fawole doing fine as well.

The veteran girls who happen to be at the big/important shows are Nobis, Vittoria, Mona, Anok, Lulu, Cong He.

Chloe Oh, Awar, and Loli seem to be the longest ones who made their debut in 2020? I could be missing a few names, I don't keep up as closely as before.

Kinda hoping to see Kaia at Chloe.
