I'm curious what your experiences may be with Model Search America. One of my contributors at Stylebites just wrote a piece on it and her take is not very positive.

If this is the case I'd like to get the word out.

Have any of you gone to one of the MSA castings or paid weekends?

Did you have any success or just lose a lot of money?

Thanks,
RM

I agree completely with the article. And since I went to model search america, I guess I have some sort of expirience. Though, I went when I was 9. Which is a reason in itself to see that this program is full of crap. At 9 years old there's not much modeling I could've done. They accepted me at the 'open call' but didn't accept my equally as adorable sister. Its bs. Its a way for them to make money on false hope.

False Hope! You said it!!! I dislike all "model searches" ... no, I actually hate them.

I believe them to be a way to get lot's of money from model "wannabes" ... and they don't offer anything of any real value in return.

Worse yet ... modeling conventions!! They promise agency exposure ... and some do have reps from a few agencies there, but most only invite agencies and the agents are just too busy with their own open calls to come to something like this. They already have wannabes breathing down their necks ... plenty of people to choose from.

The real word is that the agencies are often paid to be there and then, they send some receptionist or mail clerk to meet the requirement, but you usually won't see agents/bookers there. Sometimes they are given air fare, food and accomodations to be there ... so they use that as a mini vacation. They are also required to "call back" a certain number of girls to meet a requirement but they don't usually ever actually sign up anyone. Almost never. This I heard from a former agent/booker in the modeling business.

You can go to open calls for free at most of the agencies and for those that don't have them, you can mail pictures and your stats. It's cheaper and better, in my opinion. Save your money.

You don't need pro pictures, you don't need classes, you don't need to spend any money at all (other than postage and gas) to find out if you are model material. Anything else is a waste of your money. Period!!

Not that I feel very strong about this matter .... :innocent:

Wow Bette... that is really interesting. I wondered why some of those agencies would even send a rep. Now we've got the inside scoop!

I went to it once when I was around 16 or so. It's definatly a cattle call type atmosphere. I later had an agency contact me from it, however they were a scam agency telling me I had to pay for classes. I feel like it's a waste of money, but at the time when I was that age I thought it was cool. haha
