As sad as it may be, the huge overpricing of these labels is half the reason why they appeal to us. The fact that they're so expensive makes them more exciting. If they were priced like normal clothes, then most of us wouldn't care about designer clothing anymore.

couldn't agree more!!!!
some ppl trust price tags when it comes to quality, the bigger the number the higher the quality, which is so not true lately.. some overpriced stuff really dont deserve a fraction of its original price, so we bascially r paying for the tag or the designers signature.. its sad, really

Besides clothes, what about those handbags and shoes?I would have to say LV and Hermes bags;and Manolo Blanik shoes.

I will have to say Galliano and Jil Sander women. Jil Sander menswear is very generously priced...the womenswear is out of control..

I would have to say Chanel..

Versace is definitely overpriced even though it's one of my favorite houses.

John Galliano Homme---I mean 300-400 dollars for a t-shirt.

That's all I could really think of right now though..

Most Overpriced Designer? anything with a designer label is overpriced by its very nature. that's why it's exclusive, and why people want it.

Marc Jacobs, it's poor quality too because some things I own by him started fraying after a few wears...

i got a Givenchy shirt for 580 green cotton with black bias tape lol.

So Givenchy but i love the house tho.

I will pay more money only if the material, cut or something of that like warrants it. If I see a white cotton tshirt from Dior Vs. a white cotton tshirt from H&M, and the cut and weaving is exactly the same-- I'll take the one from H&M.

I don't like the idea that I might be sending a message to a designer that it's acceptable to attach a $200 pricetag to an unremarkable tshirt by buying it-- so I don't.

Arguably, this weird practice has elitist roots. I'll steer clear of that, thank you very much.

They must be the Olsen-twins. Too much money for those average and styleless items...:yuk:

If desginers don't overprice their clothes, the clothes will lose their lustre, even if they ARE mega stylish.
How else are people supposed to show off?

I hope you're not serious. Ugh. :hardhead:

It's true though, that's why designers invented the monogram, it generates a LOT of sales because people want others to know that they've bought Gucci or Louis Vuitton or Givenchy or Dior.

Yeah, I totally agree. If people buy a Givenchy, a Gucci or a :heart:Chanel:heart: they want to show that to the others and boast with it.

i Disagree Givenchy has a monogram but is not all over anything in the newer collections. most people dont even know what Givenchy is and confuse its monogram with gucci lol. in recent years Givenchy has become about a design point of View and less over Monogramed and commecialized like many of the LVMH houses.

Can I just ask, i've been reading through quite a few pages of this topic, can anybody actually give me prices for example for:
Burberry Prorsum (for example spring 2006 line), Yohji Yamamoto (Fall 2006) etc? I have no clue what my favourite lines actually cost, its rather shocking!
Burberry (and i'm a big fan) i personally bought a few items from that Men's (!) collection.. Spring 2006 that is:
the Patent Leather shoes with tassles are $495 (i bought them on sale for $99)
the Sandals are $350 (i bought them for $185)
the ties were $95 (i bought one for $57)
as far as women's it's about the same price more or less. A dress might cost $695. things like that.

as far as Yohji... all i remember was the shoes (i believe they were silver or gold) around $700... price comparable to Comme Des Garçons shoes. I guess they probably come from the same factory, cuz both are made in Japan.

Yup, i agree. Givenchy's monogram was never actually that popular. It was really only known amongst people who knew a thing or two about fashion, definately not as recognizable as the Louis Vuitton monogram which nowadays can even be spotted by homeless people.

It might just be me but I think almost every major designer overprices their dresses as soon as it reaches evening length. Once a dress touches the floor, no matter what its made out of, the prices seem to become astronomical. I was looking through the recent AUS Vogue and a Gucci dress made out of plain cotton, with minimal (maybe 4 hours work worth of) sequins, was priced at AUS$23,500.

Now I appreciate good quality and I do buy pieces from them, but cotton? Silk I could understand :innocent:
