i was going to just post in the leather jacket thread...
but in fact...
motorcycle jackets are their own specific style category...
and not all of them are leather...

so i've decided to create this thread just for the classic style motorcycle jacket...

especially since several fall 2011 collection have featured them heavily...
most notably - junya watanabe-
who put out an entire collection revolving around this style...

personally- i do not have one...
but i have been keeping an eye out for the right one for what seems like forever...

i may have found one that i really like...
but it is also quite $$$...

so- here you go...
a thread all about motorcycle jackets...
:flower:

the classic schott lthr biker jkt...
and blake lively wearing it well...

:p

this one from Y-3 comes a bit lower on the hip---
and if you look closely you'll see that the zip is not exactly even...
there is a little extra bit there...signature yohji...

**this is the one that i am currently lusting after...

The fit on that Y-3 jacket is sooo goood.

And this is a staple. Sadly, it comes with an expiration date .. I dont think women (or men) over or around 40 can pull it off ... I like the other type of biker jacket .. with the strap on the neck?

Im dying to find one ... I saw one once at Benetton, but they didnt have it in my size :(

hey---i'm over 40!!!...and i'm not the only one!...
you better watch it buddy!!!...

Thanks for starting this thread...I've been contemplating a leather motorcycle jacket recently. I'm not sure if I'll take the plunge though, all the ones that I like are so expensive (damn you Balenciaga )

I do have a couple of non-leather versions which are pretty much wardrobe staples...one that's thick cotton from APC and which I wear in lieu of more formal jackets for work...and a lurex, patchwork version from Heimstone. Considering how much wear I've got out of them I suppose I could, theoretically, be able to justify leather :innocent:

I think motorcycle jackets look great on any age-- it really depends on the individual. If you're in your mid-40s and desperately clinging on to your Guns 'N Roses glory days, then that would make you look quite sad. But if you're achingly stylish and know how to wear anything, then a motorcycle jacket becomes timeless in your wardrobe. I saw a very beautiful girl with short hair dyed platinum-blonde, and she wore an oversized classic-designed black motorcycle jacket with capri pants. She looked so fresh and classic-- like Jean Seberg meets Madonna. A friend of mine-- a woman in her early 40s, wore a minimally-sleek Margiela black leather motorcycle jacket with with a white shirt-dress and slim black pants, and she was equally modern-looking. It's silly to believe that such a classic and iconic fashion piece should only be worn by the young.

Having said that, I do believe that the one should only invest in a quality motorcycle jacket and sleek design; so either a classic original Schott one (vinatge or new), or a sleekly designed one from-- oh say, Hermes (why not, right)? Trendy, and poorly-made ones from H&M, TopShop, etc. should only be wasted on the young and trendy.

I am really pleased with my AllSaints leather biker jacket. The store manager told me they're manufactured at the same factory as the Burberry leather jackets, and the way it's held up over time would seem to suggest that at the very least, they use very good craftsmanship.

Style wise, I agree with Phuel that if you can afford to you should invest in a premier luxury moto jacket from a top brand. But for $400 AllSaints makes great ones.

Junya Watanabe made some pretty badass jackets this season:

That's a new one. Biker jacket not for Bikers? Thought the Hells Angels were a very big influence on the style.

neck strap? Moto jacket

soft,

No 1 You dont look your age
No 2 You have a higher fashion IQ than the rest of us mere mortals.

When I meant that it comes with an expiration date I meant most people cant pull it off after a certain age (in men can look middle-life-crisis-ey and on women ... well actually most women I've seen who wear 'em -even after 40-, they pull it off)

Junya's jackets are still produced by Lewis Leathers?

A great way to toughen up cute looks or add some extra toughness. Always been fond of these motorcycle jackets. No lies. However, I always tend to wonder if some of these fashionable motorcycle jackets are really functional (or do we have any femme motorcycle riders on tFS?). LOVE that jacket in Post #14!

Junya's jackets are THE leather jackets of the season. I have never been a fan of bulk oversized jackets, but was totally won over when I saw the collection. Net-a-Porter has the one with the cracked leather and the shearling trim; I'm so in awe of it! <3

Hands down my favourite style of leather jacket. The Burberry Prorsum ones are amazing

the burberry ones are definitely amazing!...
thanks for the pics jared...
:flower:

for women...i like it when the style goes a bit below the waist...
seems more flattering...and also practical...

i do like cropped ones - like really cropped...
just for fun...cropped ones aren't super practical......
