Natalie Portman: engaged & had a baby boy!

From Laineygossip

Natalie Portman confirmed this weekend that she and choreographer/dancer Benjamin Millepied are expecting and engaged. Portman is considered a lock for a Best Actress Oscar nomination. And she’s been workin’ it a lot more than Annette Bening too. Perhaps a baby will be enough to overcome No Strings Attached, her upcoming January release with Ashton Kutcher.

Portman and Millepied met of course while working on Black Swan. There was a curious, and creepy, item that appeared in Page Six about a month ago about what it was supposedly like on set between them:

Choreographer Benjamin Millepied became so obsessed with Natalie Portman on the set of "Black Swan" that he paid less attention to other dancers on set, a source says. "They would go to do their shots and wouldn't know any of the choreography because he was so involved with helping 'Natalie, Natalie, Natalie,' all the time," an insider tells Page Six Magazine, out on Thursday. "There was a lot of drama." The source also suggested New York City Ballet principal dancer Millepied dumped his ballerina girlfriend Isabella Boylston for Portman to social-climb. "Maybe they have a great relationship . . . But knowing Benjamin, I don't think that's how it is," the source said.

hey, I think others kinda answered it but I meant that the Oscars love a good sentimental story. and beautiful pregnant engaged Natalie is the kind of thing that gets votes and gets ratings. there are so many politics around the oscars and campaigns, and winning often has little to do with who was actually the best performance (not saying Natalie wasn't good). But the whole image of perfectly glowing 4-5 months pregnant natalie winning will be hard for any other actress to beat.

I agree, plus they will love that she fell on love with her coreographer on set. I think she was excellent in Black Swan though and will deserve it if she does win.

i actually think that there might be Natalie overload and that it might all backlash. the price of the pap pics now (her alone and with Benjamin esp) are skyrocketing, there might be lots and lots of exposure (next to already existing one due to all the hype around BS) and in turn it might put off some people (tho, this will def get more viewers for the Oscars).

i'm excited to see how cute she gets pregnant ..

taking bets on how long this marriage will last. she doesn't seem the type to make rash decisions, but it does seem like they got married because she was pregnant...and generally, IMO, that doesn't bode well.

probably won't bode well if she wins the Oscar either... remember the Oscar curse?

She should win the Oscar based on her perfomance alone, no one deserves it more this year. And here's a little reality check for the pregnancy would help rumors :flower:

Natalie Portman: Does pregnancy help her oscar chances?

Yes, I know, it’s kind of a ridiculous question. But as we all well know, winning an Oscar isn’t just about delivering a worthy performance. It’s about how a performer is perceived within the industry. So on the heels of Black Swan star Natalie Portman’s announcement that she’s expecting her first child, I was curious: How have pregnant nominees fared over the years?
Rachel Weisz was noticeably pregnant when she won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for The Constant Gardener. Catherine Zeta-Jones was too when she won the same category for Chicago. Same with Eva Marie Saint for On the Waterfront. And Meryl Streep had the future Mamie Gummer in her belly when she won Best Actress for Sophie’s Choice, though no one knew at the time. It’s been well documented that younger women have better luck with the Academy than their more mature counterparts. Could being pregnant only help an actress’ case?
Not always. Cate Blanchett was eight months along in 2008, when she lost in both the lead and supporting categories. Marcia Gay Harden also lost while pregnant, the year she was up for Mystic River. Same with Glenn Close for Fatal Attraction. Most interestingly, The Kids Are All Right‘s Annette Bening, who is Portman’s biggest competition this year, was almost nine months pregnant when she lost the Best Actress prize 11 years ago for American Beauty. With Black Swan now past the $30 million mark at the box office, Portman certainly has the momentum right now. Bening’s fans must surely hope Portman joins the list of Oscar’s pregnant also-rans come February.

I agree with this line of thinking, which is why the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that there is something we don't know, that her camp was forced to go public with this information right now, it wasn't by choice. My reasoning:

1) for one thing, like others have said she is one of the celebs who really goes to great pains to keep her personal life private, and I can think of VERY few celebs who even comment on their pregnancies before it's totally obvious (bump-watches). So it's very strange that she, of all people, would have done so so early on.

2) Even if the argument is that she wanted to do it to get the Oscar vote, the timing is off. She should realistically have done so in mid-late January, so the Natalie pregnant fever would have been in full swing just in time for the Oscars telecast.

3) Making the announcement this week (between Xmas and New Years) is weird, too, since things are very slow, people are out of town, not paying attention to news. It's as if they purposely announced it at a time when it would have made the least public impact. But why? Why right now, if they really were trying to make a public bid for an Oscar? Why not next week, at a time when everything is back in full swing?

4) AND wouldn't her camp have anticipated/been sensitive to this backlash, that the pregnancy/engagement announcement would immediately be perceived as being timed to the Oscars. I feel like they would be trying to do everything in their power to not mess anything up for Natalie's potential Best Actress win, which this could potentially do.

OK I officially sound crazy for thinking about it so much...but really, something IS weird about the whole thing!

geez girl you make this seem like the Watergate scandal lol

although I like your points, they all make sense to me. I especially agree with the first one

I think the most logical explanation is that she's showing early (it does on shorter women) and she wanted to announce it before she had to appear visibly pregnant to all the appearances that are coming very soon (she'll be at the People's Choice next week for example) and being interrogated at the red carpet! It's always better to announce it yourself before all the rumors start..and the rumors had already started a month ago with her ''bloated'' appearance at the NY Black Swan premiere :flower:

^that's exactly what I was thinking . . . if that's bloated, sign me up for whatever high-sodium diet she's on :D

Fantastic, really can't wait until she's really showing and all cute and glowing :D

^^well, there were numerous posts when those photos came out in her thread discussing her bloat! and someone even speculated about her being possibly pregnant! :D
it was the same on other forums too :flower:
