Natalie Portman: engaged & had a baby boy!

Okay I knew they were friends but Jake Gyllenhaal dated Natalie? When did that happen?

Yeah, that's EXACTLY what I thought... Even after watching Brothers, I can't see that happening...

I can definitely see Natalie and Jake hitting it off...I remember the days she dated Gael Garcia Bernal...that was interesting!

The Jake romance was never confirmed. There were some candids were they are together hiking from' 03 I think, but they're just being goofy like friends and less like lovers. But no one knows really :flower:

About Leon, I heard that there were controversial scenes that were cut and only available in the dvd. But I have to admit I've never seen those :flower:

^they just sleep sleep though, just to clarify for those who haven't seen it, not having sex! :D
BUT they talked about it all the time. Anyone remember that scene in the restaurant? That was creepy.

I don't think Michelle Williams will get the oscar... though her performance was great in a great movie along great oscars.

I am not even convinced anymore Natalie will get it... even though she truly deserves it (not because I am a fan of hers) but her performance is the kind of stuff that are oscar worthy...in a movie that is borderline good and with less establish actors. I can honestly see the academy awarding Annette Benning mainly because of her age and her contribution to the film industry...

As far as Jake and Natalie... I never knew they dated but always seemed like close friends. They would have made a beautiful couple..

Though we don't know much about this ballet dancer... I do wish them happiness.. but I have my doubt how long this will last. Natalie is like Scarlett Johansson in a way... I don't see them committing for a lifetime to just one person.

if it weren't for this thread I would never have thought it was possible for pregnancy to equal award wins. I like to remain optimistic and believe that I am completely wrong, but strangely enough it does seem like she has really been pushing her pregnancy into her speeches at the Critics Choice and Golden Globes. I don't know if I'm alone on this, but her speeches feel so forced to talk about being pregnant and the, especially because she is normally so private about her personal life.

yea its kind of annoying but at the same time i think she's really excited to be pregnant

She's been pushing hard for all these awards while her closest competition, Annette, looks like she could care less. And soon to be Mr. Portman looked awfully smug at the gg table.

She is definitely playing the preggers card. It's not some sort of crime. If she wants it that bad then she should if she thinks people find it endearing, I for one do not. She shouldn't be singled out since many have done it before her. But she's always had such a different persona, and now this is like a 180 turn.

I wish she kept her private persona going, especially during acceptance speeches..that whole thing about him being a good actor because he does want to sleep with her was incredibly awkward...

I felt she was trying to validate him for some reason, as if she's heard the K-Fed in a tutu analogy people are giving him.

Good God you're reading so much into it! Can't the girl just be super excited for being at her happiest career and personal wise? When she doesn't reveal much, she's a snob, when she's more relaxed, she's calculated and pushing for the Oscar..

exactly. her bringing up the fiancee wasnt her trying to validate him, she wasn't playing any card, she was just being silly because she was giddy.

But she is calculated and pushing for an Oscar. All of them are. She wants this Oscar bad and she's been working for it hard. And why not, it is a defining moment for her.

And when a professional high becomes a personal boon, why not try to draw in another type of audience she hasn't had before? In a short span, she's doing the award circuit for an acclaimed independent movie that's doing solid at the box office; has a romcom out; an anticipated comedy with Franco, and a probable box office draw in Thor.

This is quite impressive. Well played, Natalie.

i agree with melfreya. she cited three people from her personal life in her acceptance speech, mentioned her pregnancy and made a joke. big deal. how is she exploiting herself for professional gain?

as for her her wanting to win (or at least be nominated) what is wrong with being ambitious in your chosen field? natalie portman has demonstrated that she has vested interest in doing well in this industry. there is nothing wrong with wanting to succeed or aspiring towards public acknowledgment of your effort, hard work and commitment.

Why haven't I heard that one yet? Brilliant
I thought her GG acceptance speech was seriously awkward :ninja:
