I have a problem with makeup. I don't know what products I should wear without looking trashy etc.The only makeup I usually wear is black mascara.Everytime I wear makeup, I feel trashy/dirty etc, and I fear my skin will go to a worse state than it already is.I have a mild acne, and really ugly skin because of that.My look is "grey skin with red pimples, and looking like I haven't slept well",all the time, but I just don't know what I should do with it.everytime I try something it just does not look natural.I'd like to have "natural/fresh" look, like Gwyneth Palthrow/Kate Winslet/Audrey Tautou & many other French actresses etc., but I wouldn't like to have tons of things to put on my face every morning...quite stupid, but could somebody help?Is it even possible to wear makeup without looking trashy if you have acne?

Yes - you can wear make up and not look trashy even if you have acne. In fact, wearing make up is a great way to cover imperfections. I think the key is not overdoing it. When I have a blemish or two, I don't try to cover it completely because, honesty, you really can't without it looking cakey and unnatural. Instead, I just use a little extra powder and foundation (I've never used concealer - doesn't work for me). I suggest a moisturizer (Currently using La Mer's oil absorbing), a medium coverage foundation (I like Paula Dorf's oil free), a pressed powder (I'm loving DiorSkin), a blush, and a make up mirror.

Best of luck :flower:

^ you are right that makeup will cover imperfections, but most importantly you need to deal with your skin first! that way you will not have to wear a ton of makeup that you already dont like. I don't know if you have tried proactiv. I have had pimple/irregularities in on my skin before, and it totally helped. I don't even use it anymore, and my skin is great. what I have also noticed is, a lot of people over do it with skin care, and that's why they break out. I have that issue. right now all I use is cetaphil, and once a week mario badescu drying mask and an eye cream, and I've noticed that the less I use the better my skin is, believe me I've gone from clinique to la mer, la prarie and it all made it worst. Dring ton's of water for two week and exfoliate with a mile exfiliator, don't eat junk food. and let me know what happend in 2-3 weeks. hopefully it helps.

^I'm not sure that Proactiv works for me (and I think you can't get it from where I live), because isn't that for a skin that is quite oily? My skin is very sensitive, and dries out easily AND breaks out. I drink atleast 2 litres of water per day, and I'm really trying not to eat junk food, there actually was a long period when I didn't.I've had this problem for years...Thanks for the tips, I'll let you know if anything happens!:)

james you have to bear in mind that the actresses that you mentioned within all likelihood have weekly or bi-monthly facials helping to keep their skin glowing and beautiful. Cameron Diaz's skin looks quiet nice on the big screen but everbody talks about how her skin is awful in real life..so a lot is not as it might seem.

If make-up makes your acne worse maybe you could try settling for a really nice tinted moisturiser ? Laura Marcier's one gets raves.. :flower:

now my reply might have you screaming for the hill..lol, but my advice to you is to concentrate on skin care, more than hiding it, now this is the hard part, try not to wear make-up when you don't need it, if you do, just use a concealor over the infected areas not covering everywhere and remember the secret is too blend, blend, blend, so you don't end up with that caked look.. but i do still recommend the no make-up way, I know this because i did it and i had mild acne like you which used to turn into sores because i used to have an OCD (obbsessive compulsive disorder) where i used to pick at my skin.. anyways i found that if i kept away from the make-up i began to accept myself more, ive become more confident and my skin is really great, and in the end you wont need lots of make up, just enough to emphazise your great bits ;)
