It's a shame she's done so much work to her face. She's such an engaging actress to watch...but it's becoming harder and harder to not be distracted by what her face has become, knowing what it once was.
I wouldn’t blame any of those things, to be honest. Those are always the same excuses rattled off as to why a famous woman would go to such lengths to butcher her face. You took the words right out of my mouth.
I guess misogyny? sexism? ageism? are at the root of this. A change in value and acceptance of ageing women in Hollywood and society at large would help.
That said I quite love the unhinged hair and red flower dress look - very disco!
I do think there is a pressure for women in Hollywood to look perfect in the industry. Sure there are some exceptions. Meryl is Meryl. Nobody is going to tell her to touch her face and she's never really had the Hollywood glamazon image like Nicole Kidman. And Charlotte works primarily in the French film industry where most actresses age gracefully. I think that Nicole's problem has been that doesn't know when enough is enough. Robin Wright has admitted to getting botox and she looks terrific.I wouldn’t blame any of those things, to be honest. I think the more accurate answer would be personal insecurity felt by the individual who goes under the knife.
There are many actresses or singers or other famous women out there who have aged naturally and gracefully…and contrary to the assumed reaction of ridicule, they receive almost unanimous praise for doing just that - aging gracefully. Do people make fun of or mock Meryl Streep for her looks? Do people call Joni Mitchell a hag? Is anyone calling Charlotte Rampling an old, hideous crone?
And truthfully, men are just as subject to this - everyone hates a man who acts like a playboy or party boy far past the expiration date. Is Johnny Depp, for example, currently endeared and revered? No. He’s almost universally mocked and pitied for his sad refusal to “grow up.”
It’s too easy to blame sexism. Man or woman, it’s so much more attractive to age gracefully and with dignity - since it’s a truth of life that none of us can escape that reality - than to fight the futile fight to stay young looking.
Again, I still think it's too easy to blame "systemic" issues. It ultimately has to do with personal choices. If Robin Wright can get botox without losing her face, then was she somehow stronger than this "stigma" to look perfect? Did she get a pass for that expectation? Was she oblivious to it? While Nicole was a victim of it all? Uma? Madonna?I do think there is a pressure for women in Hollywood to look perfect in the industry. Sure there are some exceptions. Meryl is Meryl.
