I thought their first collection was a good start. It went down hill quickly. This collection looks like it comes out of a graduation show. Those buckets. Ugh.
They're really biting more than they can chew here. It was a poor decision to give a Paris maison to two people with such little experience and with such different ethos. There are some nice pieces here and there but overall very weak.
The array of colors are gorgeous- but the whole collection is boring as hell. Seen all this before. Anyone else notice that all the stuff in here has been done before.. and (what almost looks like) snake print? Didnt we just cross that bridge this spring/summer?
The weird way in which the clothes stand-off from the body like they are made of paper is so off-putting. Those awful collars and that ugly dress with bell sleeves that wouldn't stop reappearing are enough to ruin any collection. I feel like together they're becoming worse designers each season, next one they'll probably reach Virgil's level.
It's such a shame to me that literally no one else likes this collection! I really enjoy it. It's very flawed - none of the top + skirt combos work at all, and a lot of it seems stiff in motion - but I think this is such a cool take on the Nina Ricci codes. Since they're not dressmakers, they have to take another approach to the girly frills synonymous with the brand, and I quite enjoy these large, fluid, ruffly dresses and the saucer tops, they feel like they're moving in stillness. (This yellow prinstriped top on Berit moves rather beautifully, too, gently bouncing away from the body.) It just feels like a refreshing, cool and more cerebral mix between girl and woman that Nina Ricci desperately needed. I was doubtful of them in the first collection, but this one showed me they have the goods to turn the house around. (now they just need to convince literally every other person on the planet apparently lol)
