'Nu-Rave'

like eminem says "nobody listens to techno"

first off, it's not techno. have you ever heard techno?

secondly, please never quote eminem. ever. i'm sure you're very smart but quoting eminem makes you look incredibly silly considering his other lyrics mainly talk about how much he wishes he murdered his mother and wife :flower:

it was a silly comment.
and yes, i am old enough to have attended raves for 5 straight years with recovering earlobes.

I agree. I was part of the rave scene in the 90s--toward the tail end, though--and raves just do not exist anymore. When I was part of the rave scene, we didn't even call them "raves," but parties, and they weren't in clubs, but old, abandoned wearhouses (sp?). And they were illegal.

yeah, exactly. i also agree with siennainlondon and ianastar on this. all things rave were truely heartfelt back in the early 90s, and neon fashions were fresh then, but aren't now for me. i had my aciiiid tee and glow in the dark tights then, but today i rather work a well tailored balenciaga skirt. :p

I quite like the idea of wearing neon but in an unexpected way like strongly tailored or something...
Or wearing a Casette Playa piece with something really plain like APC skirt....

I'm not really concerned with being 'truly heartfelt' as this theory could apply to a lot of things. Do we truly believe we're a pirate when wearing pirate boots? So no, I never went raving back in the days of rave (was too young) but it doesn't mean that the fashion consequences this music movement is having on fashion today cannot be enjoyed by everyone....

can someone please tell me where I can get trainers like this or similar?

they look like they're having a ball! good on them...its certainly not my cup of tea nor would i EVER wear anything like that but i mean they're young, let them have something :)

well... i do. don't you? ;)
i understand your point, susiebubble. what i was trying to explain was that nu rave wasn't for me just because i was doing rave when it was "old" (oldschool; like, when it was brandnew). i like things that feel new for me now, and don't want to "style repeat" my old fads from when i was 20.

agreed, too. :flower:

maybe it is the "hippie thing": some of the real woodstockers wouldn't be caught dead in platforms again today, even though they do appreciate the stylishness of those who wear them with great joy for the first time. what do you think?

this makes me think about the scene in AbFab where they discuss how trends come back.

It was something along the lines.......

"New music, old music, new fashion, old fashion."

and then something about how everything new is really old, and it's just a "revival"

"You get your clothes back from the cleaners, and it's a revival!!"

when done the wrong way...

its just:yuk::hardhead::evil:

i think that the cook kids clubbers/scenesters/whoever do it quite well but when it filters down to the masses....

lets say yesterday i saw a 15 yr old wearing enough plastic neon jewellery to fill a tip, neon clothing so layered it was difficult to make out whether she had a body and finally a hideous pair of multicoloured sneakers.

i am traumatised. someone rip my eyes out.:ninja:

This is nowhere near as cool as the candy ravers were ten years ago. Speaking of which, I know I have a pair of JNCO's laying around somewhere... This Nu look looks slapped together, and it's down right gaudy.

Anyway, I wish I had pictures of when I was in the rave scene, but my ex either kept them or burned them all. I'm half-tempted to talk to her to get them back.

Bring back the suffed animals sewn onto pants!

I think my friend still has a few pairs of his specially made stacked platform sneaks.

Wonder if I can get him to send pics:innocent:
