OCM - *oil cleansing method

maybe? is yr skin oily normally? then i would maybe lay off it until after the party!
i had no breakouts at first & you shouldn't really. it's not like yr leaving the oil on yr face . . it should all be steamed & rinsed off
*or you could try it out for the nxt few days & see how it goes . .
if it's breaking you out (it really shouldn't!) . . then lay off it by tuesday? & go back to yr usual routine.

i know curious! tht's why it's called xtra xtra virgin. makes sense now!

 Yes, the xtra xtra makes perfect sense now!

Hmm.. yes, I'm oily by nature. Thanks Pops
It has it's advantages as you age though, I must admit!

I think I'll have to wait until after the party..
I've been down with a cold all week so I'm already battling "sick skin" :yuk:
I think a diet rich in anti-oxidants and loads of water will be best for me in the short term!
I'll try this after and keep you posted :flower:

Bump....

So I have been doing this method since I came across this thread and I still love it!!
For the first winter ever my skin isn't sand paper!!:woot:
When I first started my skin looked perfect...
then after about a week and a half I got a small breakout:cry: ...
but it wasn't like my normal breakouts.
I usually get big painful pimples that never really break but look red and hurt!!
These I got were just whiteheads and were gone very quickly....
and since then no more breakouts.

I have been using a mix of evoo, seasme, and avocado oil.

is anyone still doing this?.....
i do it 1-2 times a week usually...

i havent noticed an overwhelming difference, but i do feel great after i do it, and i notice my skin feels a lot less 'stripped' of it's natural oils

I have cut down on it too now that the weather is getting warmer...
but I still think it's great, esp. for very dry skin like mine.

for 6months, i've been using oils to remove makeup - but followed up with a cleanser.

since i've read up on OCM - for the past 3 days i've been omitting the cleanser, and doing the steaming bit. i always follow up with a wee bit of Shea Butter.

i WANT to like Castor Oil, but it's not breaking down my makeup as rapidly as other oils.. such as Sweet Almond, Olive or Coconut Oil. Also, i felt my skin wasn't left as moisturized after using Castor Oil on its own.

i'll try the mix of Castor Oil + Olive Oil, and see how that goes.

i'm considering using RoseWater or OrangeBlossomWater afterwards.. as a 'toner' - what do you think?

Have you ever come across folks who walk aroun d smelling like Rancid Oil or Rancid Fat? i'm worried if at some point it don't remove the final residue (using a Toner or at some point, a cleanser) - i'll be one of those folks too - walking around smelling of rancid oil. But then.. oil dissolves oil and all that....
any thoughts?

heyo i'm back.
so about 1week later and i'm loving the OCM method.
i've started using Avalon Lavender Hydrosol after, as a toner of sorts, and i like seeing how much residue is picked up.. and my face isn't tight afterwards.
no more fear of rancid oil smell later

One last remaining question: i'm more prone to puffy-eyes now since i've been using the OCM.. any suggestions?

I once used OCM for a month or two but noticed no significant change so I stopped. I used a mixture of castor/sweet almond oil

It DOES get the gunk out but I didn't notice dramatic improvement in my skin. BUt it's probably because I was often too lazy to do it regularly ( every night ) and it might have to do with the wrong technique?

There are lots of little details that you have to be aware of when you use the OCM method..
1. The mixture of oils
2. The cloth you're using ( texture, cleanness-make sure you only use it once, detergent used, etc)
3. Application method (make sure to steam properly to open pores)
4. Wiping off (make sure you take all the dirty oil off or you're gonna break out, and don't do it too hard or it'll irritate your skin)

For a VERY very extensive thread about OCM go here (Do you have to be a member to view? Because I'm one)

I've used this OCM on and off for about a year. I'm going to try and stick to it at night for a few weeks to see if it improves my skin, which is quite good anyway (normal/combination with the odd breakout, with a couple of patches of minor pimple scarring which I am trying to fade). Currently using a mix of EVOO and castor oil. I might try mixing in jojoba oil as I've had great success using it as a moisturiser on my face, or grapeseed oil, as I have a big bottle in the cupboard. I put some essential oils in as well: rose, lavender, and sandalwood, but I might switch those around too just for the sake of it.

So I OCM'ed again today with 100% EVOO and it has been great! It's so moisturizing which is good because it's winter over here.
I hope I can stick to this regime and keep everything under contorl (usually I'm too lazy to use a new facewasher hehe)

I'm definitely going to try this with extra virgin olive oil. I'll tell everyone how it works out.

i use extra virgin olive oil for the OCM and i ABSOLUTELY looveee it!
my skin is as soft and clear and dandy as a baby's butt! i totally reccomend it. i do it at night and sometime sin the morning if i have time, but if not i use missha rose water facial cleanser.
works a charm.

I was just looking to make a thread about the use of oil, so i'm glad i found this one! I just read one of the featured articles on Yahoo and it was about this, so i was considering trying it. I already use bio oil on my face and that has worked out amazing for me, but i've never really used any for my body, i think i may try it though.

Just incase anyone wants to read the article heres the link :flower:

Oh and in one of the comments made it suggested using any of these oils:
Olive oil, Coconut oil, Soybean oil, Vitamin E oil, Almond oil, Apricot oil, Flax seed oil, Hemp seed oil, Palm oil and Safflower oil.

I haven't used any of these yet, so i can't pass judgement! But i think i may try olive or almond!

i think coconut oil is hard to use.. its got a different consistancy.

I use Burts Bees Orange Essence Facial Cleanser every other day in the tub. It's an oil based cleanser and smells divine! I've tried evoo LOVED it, but couldnt balance the amount to mix with almond oil and didn't like the clean up. this makes my skin feel the same and it's easier to use imo.

some ingredients: Olive Oil, Orange Oil, Oat Flour, Oat Oil, Aloe Barbadensis (Leaf Juice), Tocopheral (Vitamin E), Rosemary Leaf Oil

^I use that cleanser, its great!! Although it is a little pricey so I might try something else.

I used OCM for like 3 months and while it really did improve the quality of my skin underneath but it made my spots worse, so I stopped using it. I would have loved for it to be really good as I'm all for natural skin care

I have to add another rave for the OCM! I discovered Shu's Cleansing Oils last November and ever since my skin has looked and felt so much better... supple and rosy. But since Shu is so expensive I started looking around for alternatives ... I still haven't finished my bottle but now I also have pure jojoba oil to which I add a bit of lavender essential oil (that's as far as my mixing experiments go ... too lazy to make a fancy cleanser) that works just as well though it feels a bit heavier.

I have a few questions though:

Is it bad to use the jojoba oil as a daily moisturizer? I use very little, but I'm just wondering if it blocks my pores (my forehead is very bumpy) or whether that's just my stupid skin...

Also (somewhat unrelated) should I use a scrub? Or would that just dry out my skin and make it more irritable?

If anyone knows about this and can tell me, thanks a lot! :flower:

when i tried Burts Bees Orange Essence Facial Cleanser it made my face terrible with this oily gross residue,, its so thick. i dont reccomend it for oily skin.
