Olivia Palermo

The appeal of Blair Waldorf though lies in her vulnerability and her insecurity underneath her bitchiness, and how she is so flawed because she just 'goes for it' because she's still quite immature (and uh, a teenager).

Whereas Olivia doesn't have that same level of vulnerability... at least I haven't seen it yet, and I can't see Olivia breaking down on TV or having a fight with mummy anytime soon.

The only similarity in their personal style is that they're both very 'done up' and maybe the curls, but that's about it. She's not really a Blair at all...

Oh Cicciolina i know, and i agree! :flower:

Blair Waldorf (and Leigton) is pretty much my favourite TV caracter/actress for a long time..

When i say Blair Waldorf personality i mean the superficial parts of Blair (not the parts which you very eloquently put; of depth and vulnerability)...

it's my guilty pleasure to enjoy seeing Olivia be a conniving, 2 faced, superficial b*tch... i don't empathise with her in a way that i would empathise with Blair...but the snarkiness and gorgeous exterior B).

it's also ironic/funny because in real life Olivia is no queen B by any means, she's more the rejected Jenny Humphrey caracter..

tbh though, i love Blair much more than either Whitney Port or Olivia... though Olivia is pretty enough to remind me of Blair...and her background interesting enough to be entertaining/voyeuristic :flower:

she looks just TOO perfect...i hate to say this but i think she's had surgery, her nose is just too perfect same with her chin.. and it's by no means an italian nose! lol i should know i come from an italian family! just occurred to me. she is naturally very pretty bur you can tell she puts a lot of maintenance into her looks..

i think her nose looks diff now than it did 2 yrs ago like this picture, her lips r also diff i thinkpic from gettyimages.com

EXACTLY. Her behavior is characteristic of someone who is incredibly insecure about their social/economic standing, and is aiming to prove that they come from more than they actually do. The truth is that 'The City' producers are actually helping Olivia fit into the role she has so desperately tried to be for the last few years by casting her as the rich, spoiled, UESider. The truth of the matter is that she does not come from limitless wealth, nor is she a true native New Yorker. She is from Greenwich, CT, and despite the fact that some of the wealthiest people in the US do live there, she grew up in a more typical upper-middle class household. She did attend a private school, but by no stretch did she go to one of the top prep schools that would be fitting to someone from the world she wants to portray. Most of her peers, if they did not attend one of the top NY schools, attended Choate, or Lawrenceville. She went to a perfectly bourgeois day school in CT, not doubt about it, but that is no marker of the type of money she wants to portray. Her father's rather public economic troubles (which started years ago, have nothing to do with the recent crisis) prove that she is largely speaking not as wealthy as she wishes to be seen. Not that any of that matters, but I think its important to clarify because I think people are very eager believe what MTV is selling.

Thank you. I like Olivia, but let's keep it real: she is not really from the world that she is representing. She was discovered a couple years ago and through sheer ambition became a NY "social." She is not of the UES set but neither is Tinsley (Richmond), Lisa Airan (Chicago), Byrdie (Chicago), Genevieve (New Orleans) or most of the socials. I personally don't think it matters. If you can come to NY and get to the top level of society, then kudos.

And I don't think Olivia is super rich. I think at this point, she has generated enough press to earn free clothes, trips, etc. I believe she pays for her basic maintenance (hair, makeup, apt, skin care, etc). But a lot of the glamour is subsidized. :flower:

^^ wow , thank you Unique. now you can really see the difference.. the before pic is much more reminiscent of an Italian nose.. her cheeks and chin have changed too.. how icky to have so much surgery a bit a la Ashley Simpson, she didn't need it! she was naturally beautiful!

I actually think of Olivia as Georgia from Gossip Girl more than Blair :S

LOL^ but in the second one she looks a bit like a stepford housewife, too robotic..

I think that the word Socialite is used too liberally nowadays. That whole set; Birdie and Tinseley and the rest of them seem to be no different than any fame grubbing, celebrity hungry young women in any social set. When actors and actresses love the attention they're ridiculed. And yet those people have a certain modicum of talent and work at something. I'm not saying that people from wealthy backgrounds should go work at Walmart just because, I'm saying its mistifying why young women are celebrated for dressing up in ten thousand dollar dresses and preening and posing for photos at vapid events and for living lives that are just more vicious versions of high school drama. I think that the class of socials that any of them would have you believe they were died out a few decades ago.
Why anyone, even Olivia, is dying to potray that image and belong to those people is beyond me.

Caught the The City yesterday and I thought Olivia was pretty. I don't think the show is going to portray her in a very favorable light though. It was obvious she was prompted to ask about Jay...a lot. Drama-rama.

Anyway, I do look forward to seeing more episodes and most of all, to seeing more of Olivia's style :)

Yeah, she has to be prompted, because you know the "socials" wouldn't even give a crap about anyone below 14th Street.

I agree someone prompted her keep asking Whit about Jay. Her style is sooo amazing.

Whoa she looks so different now. She almost looks younger (or her age I should say).

Seeing the photos of her I always thought she would have a rather sweet personality. Her face is very...innocent. I was very surprised to see how much of a stuck-up b*** she is on the City :innocent:

And yes, I believe she had some work done, but the result was well worth it IMO :ninja:

If she did have surgery she had the best I have ever seen. She still looks natural and it actually improved her appearance Heidi Montag.
