Just a thought that came up to me after I have been here for a couple of weeks, because I only see skinny/normal weight people on here posting their outfits of the day. Also, on the street fashion board, I only see girls who are skinny or normal weight being posted, I haven't seen any pics of curvier girls who are well-dressed on the street. Just makes me wonder if you think curvier girls can be dressed as stylish as normal size girls. If you see a curvy girl (let's say, size 10, 5'6) who is well dressed (clothes that are flatterning on her, and they are also very unique and stylish), would you still see her as a stylish person? Does the size of the girl affect how well you think she dresses if she has a good taste? Disccuss

We definitely have people who fit the profile you mention who post in "What are you wearing today" ... I myself fit that profile, so you bet your a$$ I think we can be well-dressed :P

And btw, size 10 is not only normal, it is below average for women in my age group in this country (US).

size doesnt matter, nor should it. judging a person their weight is unfair

Short answer: No.

Long answer...because most designers, fashion magazines, etc are biased towards making clothes and styles for smaller people often times I see heavier set woman wearing ill-fitting clothes. With that said, I've seen plenty of curvy girls who know how to work it! Style isn't WHAT you wear but HOW you wear it and so much more. So, no the size of a person isn't a setbeck most of the time. You just have be more careful about styles you wear.

I am size 10 US (14UK) and I sometimes post on the what are you wearing today thread
But I must admit that it took me a long time because I thought there was a bit of an unspoken size (and actually taste) consensus in that thread.
i don't think your size affects how 'well you are dresses'. good taste is good taste no matter what the size. and good taste isn't the be-all. i know a woman here in Copenhagen who is pretty big and goes for a kind of Vivienne Westwood, sexed-up, cracky, retro ironic look with huge red hair. she looks amazing because she is charismatic, fearless and cool. some may sneer at her booty but she couldn't care less.

that kind of self-freedom is really stylish.

Fash...do you really think so??? I think the WAYWT are quite all-embracing really.... I don't even see size as an issue in the thread....

some are skinnier than others, but that's no indication of better style and that's my general outlook on the issue. Style is style on curvy or skinny. Obviously, technically, curvier ppl can't get away with as many things as the slimmer girls (harsh but true....) but this does not mean you can't be stylish either - as fash said, a curvy girl rocking the whole sexed up VW look has charisma and guts - I'd probably give more props to her than a skinny girl wearing skinny jeans and a t-shirt.

YAY to the self-freedom and good taste is good taste!

I don't there's a size consensus in the WAYWT thread, and I don't think there's a certain taste preference either, beyond the fact that I think we as viewers appreciate stuff that is special in some way. One more generic designer t-shirt and designer jeans isn't that special, as good as they might look...

I always enjoy seeing what you're wearing, even though I might not comment on it, and I have to say that I never even considered you as a "plus size"! Maybe slightly plump, but certainly not big. And men like that, you know...

I agree there are several very stylish curvy women who post in the WAYWT thread.

I also see plenty of fashionable curvy women IRL.

Fashion, style and "aesthetic presence" are not dependent on any body size or shape, IMO.

Haha! Thanks.

Well, it was my own self-consciousness then, in hesitating before posting for the first time . . .

with the taste consensus - not sure. I always presumed that there are certain taste factions within any message board . . .

Style is self-defining, and I actually see alot of people who do not fit into conventional runway sizes develop very distinct styles simply because they cant copy the skinny looks which sadly happens too often where im at. Every other guy along my street is wearing the blazer/sports jacket with jeans/sneakers look just because loads of recent magazines have them and they are smirking to everyone, its downright blasphemy.

Style comes from within, the body is the vehicle and clothes only do so much, its the confidence behind them that expresses an outfit as well as bringing that outfit to life. I say go for it, you'll be happier you did

Maybe larger girls don't have the confidence the dress well? that is the way it is with me. I know I'm so fat I'll never look decent in anything so I just stick to jeans and t shirts. But I can't wait till I lose weight and buy a nice new wardrobe.

My fashion philosophy:
There's potential for any body type, just find the right clothes.
AND...there's potential for any clothes, just find the right body. :D

Off course there's no rules without exceptions :P.

I know a lot of curvy girls I would consider more stylish than thin girls/girls thinner than them. It's all about finding the right clothes. Eg. I've never seen a curvy girl looking good in skinny jeans (please, no  ), and waist belts and '50s dresses looks SO much better on curvy girls than thin girls.

But I feel also that curvy girls has to try harder to be considered stylish. A thin girl can take it easier. It's not my personal meanings, more how I feel the society works.

I doubt that being curvy automatically gives you little self esteem and less confidence to wear stylish clothes. I'm thin/normal, but I still have LOW self esteem and my confidense with esp. cleavages is as little as you can get. I suppose I'm pretty stylish anyway (as I've heard) and as I said, I know a lot of curvy girls that dress better than many thin girls.

It's about confidence and carrying yourself well..though I do admit that some things curvier girls can't really get away with - like skinny jeans - but that again depends on body type and how you present yourself, confidence, etc. :flower:

Please don't feel discouraged to post in the WAYWT thread!!

^I agree with everything that's been said here. In addition to your sense of style, being 'stylish' also has a lot to do with how you carry yourself. Be proud of who you are, and you'll look good no matter what (of course, a great outfit helps  )

Having been a little big myself till I worked my *** off at the gym(guess vanity has its motivations), esteem and confidence does affect in these cases, I just kept at it.

And thanks Melisande

There are some curvy girls in the "what are you wearing today" thread and i find them gorgeous.
I remember one of my classmates was curvy and the most stylish girl in the class and in my opinion in the whole school.
Maybe most clothes fit us, skinny girls better but also there are clothes looking better on curves. I say curvy girls should have the same confidence they think skinny girls have. :P ^_^ :flower:

i'm whippet thin and i have to pass alot of clothes i like, but i can't carry off. so i yearn to be curvy, i pad up sometimes, but i just can't fake the bulk and the extra flesh on the arms etc.
fash ho said i'm a clothes horse, and anything will look fine on me - not true at all- but thanks for the vote of confidence! e.g. wrap dresses are a challenge. and tubes are not unforgiving. but i have heard comments from others who claim the are drawn to boney clavicles etc.
sorry, its late and i'm rambling too much.
but having said that, it is true (but harsh, to quote susie bubble) that most clothes are designed for size 8, 5'7" women. which is also why, alot of people are turning to alternatives like vintage and tailored clothes for respite.
