Pale / Fair Skin - What Are Your Fave Products?

I currently use Bare Minerals, but I find the powder is really drying on my fair, sensitive skin. I just began using toner, which definitely helps, but I really want to switch to a liquid foundation. I'm starting college in a month, so i want to get this all sorted out before then. I'm thinking of going with a Clinique foundation, I have really oily skin, and am thinking of either the Stay-True Oil-Free formula or the Superbalanced one (because I sometimes have unpredictable, acne-prone skin). I just feel bad about the cost though, so I think something like CoverGirl or Maybelline might be more up my alley financially, but I'm worried about if it would work on my oily, pale skin....

powder foundation is typically drying itself and it goes worse on sensitive skin. i used to wear those two-way cake (compact powder foundation) to a wedding and gawd my face just red and itches so badly (i have the teen/dry combo skin; plus very sensitive), an aunt of mine ask what was going on?! so next time when you look for foundation, u do need some oil-free liquid or even better a primer that will help the oil and the breakout-ness first. Clinique is a pretty good brand i heard, i am planner to buy the almost makeup powder sometime this next few months, if it is not drying

^ same here for the teen dry/combo skin. Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going to go for the Clinique...if it improves my skin's condition, then it is well worth the price. I think it might be cheaper, or at least around the same price, as Bare Minerals anyways, so whatever! Good luck with your skin too :flower:

please stay away from Clinique unless you have skin like leather..
Combat oil with oil (oil cleanser) or Liz Earles award winning cleansing products ..see her thread here

^ o_O Hanne can you tell us about Clinique then?! I am only thinking of the Almost Makeup powder... I am going through some awkard transforming stage right now.... ick >.<

The makeup is fine.. just stay away from their toners.. they are too harsh.. you can actually remove nailpolish with toner 3 and 4 .. that should give you an idea.

I suggest you try to de-congest your skin by using mild exfoliators regularly, use a sunscreme thats light and wont clog (like La Roche-Posay's Anthelios XL 50+ which is a very light fluid) and take tablets that will improve your skins condition like silica tablets (clearing) and morning primrose oil (moisturize).

Get enough sleep, water, avoid stress and whenever possible give your skin a makeup day off.

Avoid stress--if only

I'm going to need to replace my sunscreen shortly (running out), and was wondering if I could use the one you mention around my eyes ... is it good for sensitive skin? I've been using Dermalogica's chemical-free one, and it doesn't list an eye restriction ...

I use the Clinique Dramatically Diff. moisturizer, but Cetaphil cleanser and generic-brand alcohol-free toner. I've just been thinking about Clinique for the foundation/concealer. Do you think that would be alright? It's either that or drug-store brands for my limited budget and I figured it would be better than Cover Girl, etc.!

I find the DDM to be perfect for my skin because it's very lightweight. I use dermatologist prescribed acne lotions under it, so my skin gets quite dry and I hate putting lots more guck on it, so the light, yet effective moisturizer works for me. That is, unless I am wearing sunscreen (Neutrogena Oil-Free), which I wear instead of lotion over my acne products and under makeup.

^ I think if you can get a color match, Clinique foundation/concealer should be fine ... it's important to be able to try it, and I agree their prices are among the more reasonable at the dept store. Plus fair skin is often sensitive as well, & they seem to do a pretty good job with testing. Although their skincare is quite retro as Hanne mentions ...

thank you hannah, i was planning to get their skincare stuff o_o (eww toner can remove nail polish)... now i will think their makeup only.
btw how spf does a person w/ skin prototype II need in canada?!

La Roche-Posay's Anthelios XL 50+
is good for sun intolerant skin, combination to oily skin (I'm sensitive/dry... but during the summer my skin can get a oily layer..so it works well for me)
It's without perfume.. and ta-ta sorry, but no, it says avoid eye area..
I've though about trying Dermalogicas.. but right now I use my La Prairie Smart Eyecreme that has a spf 15.

I am clueless as to how spf in Canada compares to in EU.. but 50+ is about as high as it gets.

Cliniques foundations are fine.. however I think the most common complaint about them are that they are too pink.. I haven't used Clinique foundation in quiet some years..so wether or not they have fixed that I don't know.
Drug Store wise I think Max Factors foundations are pretty decent.

I used to wear BE too but I switched to Everyday Minerals a while back and I couldn't be happier! It lasts longer, goes on smoother, doesn't make my skin itchy, and is half the price. They have tons of choices for fair skin - warm, cool, neutral - they have it all. They even offer free samples (you pay a few dollars for shipping). I looked at their faq and they have Gwyneth listed as having a cool skintone:

That said, I have pink undertones but I hate makeup that accentuates that so I use EM's Fair Neutral. I would definitely recommend giving EM a try :flower:

thanks! i have wanted to try everyday minerals for a while, its just not on sephora, so i tend to forget about it. bare minerals has definitely left me with dry patches and i have combo skin,so it gets tough. another thing, bare minerals doesnt offer fair in the $60 package, so it took me a while to put up the money for the sole fair foundation and now i feel compelled to use it after paying! im definitely going to look in to everyday minerals and i think a visit to perscriptives couldnt hurt. a few years ago, i went to the counter and they tested me for something like alabaster-something, and it was good but too light in consistency for what i need now.

see, so confusing about gwyneths skin tone. ive read both that shes a cool and warm and i feel like i dont fit in to either perfectly, yet i know i cant wear blue red. im an anomaly i guess.

thanks for the sample info as well!

wow, that was fast. i just ordered the everyday minerals sample kit, and i was still mystified. so many choices, so not like bare minerals! wow. well, when i get them, ill report back. i was still confused on the blush, i ordered bouquet, which was prob wrong, but when i run, my cheeks literally turn red, so i ordered a red. its ok, it was $5.

I need recommendations for a powerful but everyday-wearable sunscreen.

I'm 25 and obsessed with keeping my skin sun-free to avoid ageing. So I really need something that's lightweight enough to wear everyday (unlike normal beach-targeted sunscreens which are ridiculously greasy), but still has enough SPF power to block out those evil UV rays my skin hates.

I keep hearing about LaRoche Posay, but we don't have it here in Finland. So, any alternative suggestions? Or, is there a web shop that carries LaRoche Posay and ships to Northern Europe? Any help greatly appreciated :flower:

Nyx, as you live in Finland, you don't have to purchase a sunscreen with a high SPF. SPF 15 will suffice for most of the year. The important thing is to choose a reputable brand that has both UVA and UVB protection, and to apply a lot of it. I would check out The Ida's posts on this and other skincare-related threads. She lives in Denmark, which has a similar kind of sunlight, and she is quite knowledgeable on skincare.

I need a good sunscreen for the upcoming spring/summer months. It takes a maximum of 5 minutes for my skin to turn beet red in the Australian sun. I want to keep an all over fair complexion this summer. And possibly, if I feel brave, try out a fake tan for once. ( probably not though  )

My favourite products for my skin are dr hauschka cleansing milk, toner & normalizing oil & also YSL touche eclat #1 is hard to go without... I'm looking for the perfect foundation though. I'm considering trying Chanel teint innocence. Has anyone used this?

i just got my samples in the mail and i am converted. to tell you the truth, i got 4 foundation samples and i have only tried the soft butter peach and i feel like i dont even need to try the others. it totally disappears on my skin and yet covers what i need covered. i also got the fair intensive concealer and it is the only thing ive ever used that covers the nasty dark blue rings under my eyes. i seriously cant believe how good it is. thanks so much for the tip! its weird though, when i go to the faqs, there is nothing about soft butter peach there. oh well, in the actual description, it says its under the warm category and "Is ideal for those with fair to light complexions with peach to golden complexion." i guess i know my complexion now!

Has anyone tried Paul and Joe foundation? Is it any good for pale skin?

I'm so glad it worked for you! Thanks for the update :flower:

Just thought I'd mention that for my new sunscreen I got Clinique Super CityBlock SPF40, which specifically says it's safe for use around the eyes. My skin tends toward pink and is very sensitive, and I love it (it's tinted). (The SPF25 OTOH is very very yellow.) It's less irritating than the Dermalogica was (i.e., not at all), and has a lovely mousse-y texture.

^ thats the same one I use. It looks tinted but on me it doesnt change the color of my skin at all which is nice.
