Pale / Fair Skin - What Are Your Fave Products?

^
I know what you mean. It can be hard to find a moisturizer that actually moisturizes. I'm going to suggest something crazy here, but if I were you, I would make sure that any moisturizer you get is not 'oil free'. Because When you have that sort of thing, it can strip your skin of oil making it overproduce, instead of balance. I have combination skin and was using Ponds Intense Moisture which worked well. Other than that, I like Burt's Bee Carrot Day Cream (very heavy and rich) but that can leave a bit of an orange tint to your skin. I just got neutrogena daily moisture with spf 45, so I'm hoping that will be good for summer

I look for similar qualities in face cream, and I'm pleased with Avene Hydrance Optimale SPF 25 for normal/combination skin. It blends into my skin easily and leaves a satiny finish. As Meg said, products targeted for oily (or combo) skin are often too drying. The Avene is just right. However, it's a moisturizer/sunscreen, and in the summer I need a proper sunscreen. I haven't found one that I'm completely satisfied with, they're always so heavy.

I would try the Neutrogena sunscreens. When I was doing separate moisturizer and sunscreen, I actually found it gave me a great finish, wasn't heavy and absorbed very quickly. Using the Neutrogena combo moisturizing/sunscreen for the first time today, I find that the moisturizing is definitely not quite as heavy as what i want, but I'm just applying it twice to get the coverage I want.

My question is how effective is sunscreen built into moisturizer? Mine is spf 45 but somehow I don't trust that I'm really getting the same coverage as if I put spf45 on separately.

^same here, I really want a moisturizer with a fairly high spf (made a thread about it) and I want to know if it's really as effective. I hate layering moisturizer and sunscreen because it's just way too heavy and oily on my face and it always breaks me out :(

On another note, just bought the new Mac duo grand blush in moon river and it's amazing, tossed all my other blushes into the ol' junk drawer :) the mono side is the perfect pale pink, not shimmery nor matte (kind of a satin finish) and the marble side is a great highlighter. This seriously just replaced 3 products for me, blush, highlighter and pale shimmer eyeshadow :)

the best sunscreen/moisturizer combo for my oily and acne prone skin have to be these two. They never made me broke out and they actually moisturize :flower:

Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 15
  • Broad-spectrum UV-ray protection
  • A light, yet effective lotion
  • Easily absorbed
  • Leaves no greasy or sticky residue
  • Not tested on animals
Our unique, lightweight formulation is readily absorbed into the skin and affords protection from the sun’s burning and often harmful rays.

In the summer I use the spf25 one

Ultra Protection Water-Based Sunscreen SPF 25
  • Provides broad-spectrum sunscreen
  • Easily absorbed
  • Leaves no greasy or sticky residue
  • Leaves skin soft and elegantly conditioned
  • Not tested on animals
Our absolute lightest water-based sunscreen provides UVA and UVB sun protection and is enriched with Aloe Vera and Allantoin, two natural ingredients that help to promote a soothing effect. Ideal for oily skin types that cannot tolerate a lot of moisturizers, this light lotion is also great for use under make-up.

I'm very pale so always had trouble finding a pale enough foundation but I've just purchased the palest shade of Diorskin Nude and it is perfect on me. I have to agree it is so light and the perfect texture. Pair that up with a Strawberry Sorbet Dior blush and it really makes me pale and interesting rather than ghostly.
If anyone can recommend a good eye shadow for very pale skin I would be grateful. Most of them look far too dark on me even if I got for a light colour. I need something between too dark and so light it's shiny.

FYI Givenchy makeup in the shade 'dragee' is incredibly light... The cream compact is actually a shade too light for me

I was wondering what you guys tips on eyeliner for pale skin is. I'm very pale and want to wear eyeliner but it always makes me seems gothic rather than chic.

I always use a soft eyeliner and do a light smoky eye - MAC Kohl in Teddy is my favourite, but I'm sure someone else here can help you more.

You could try brown eyeliners instead of black, or even plum or grey would look good depending on your eye colour. That should prevent you from feeling like it's too dark/severe.

I got the Diorskin forever spf 25 in 01 ivory i spoke about a month ago and it's great. Awesome coverage for pale/fair skin (i have also dry to normal skin) and it gives me great even coverage and a nice glow. Although i dont' think it's recommended for people with oily skin as it can be heavy. Get a sampe from Dior adn try it.. ;)

I completely agree that diorskin is not for oily skin. However if you have dry skin, it's wonderful. Heavier coverage but looks perfectly natural, I was able to skip the concealer sometimes when in a hurry but it made me break out. I reviewed it and meant to post here but accidentally posted in a different pale skin thread. Right now I am using SK II airtouch in the lightest color and I really love it.

for day when I dont want to look as severe, I like mac shadow lady shadow with a fine angle brush as a liner. It's a dark dirty kind of plum. If you want a liner specifically and not a shadow I'd recommend bobbi brown gel eyeliner in violet ink. bobbi brown makes the absolute best eyeliner if you want something that stays in place although its not as great for smudging. brown is also not as severe but personally with brown hair, brown eyes and brown smokey eyeshadow I like the contrast. shadow lady doesnt actually look like your wearing purple but more intresting than brown and not as severe as black.

risska, im using grey right now, and depends on ur colouring and outfit, you can wear crazy colour like blue and gold (i like teal because it work with my dark hair) and u and mute it down for day, i suspose :P

Thanks for the tips guys, I'm gonna give it all a try and see what happens! :flower:

L'Oreal True Match Foundation in Cool 1 Alabastre
its light coverage which is love because its more natural but still works amazingly well as an undereye concealer because of the pink undertones! :D
i learned this from gossmakeupartist on youtube! if you are fair use a pink undertones for undereye concealing and salmon if you are medium-tan or darker.

its a shame that L'Oreal True Match's color selections for their concealers are so dark because they do work really well. much more opaque so it would be an effective concealer but none of the colors are light enough for me. i just hate carrying the glass foundation bottles for touch ups and whatnot.

edit***
for reference im a MAC NW15 or L'Oreal N1/N2

i love MAC Naked Lunch eyeshadow for a good neutral. i would describe as beige with pink undertones. which i also have pix of in Asian Eyes/Brown Eyes thread lol

^ i just bought teddy based on your recommendations, and i love it! it's perfect because it's not too harsh but it still gives a defined look if that makes sense  i also bought naked lunch but i seem to get less pink & more golden apricot colour  it's still pretty, just not what i was expecting!

i definitely want to try shadowy lady now - and i agree with all your recommendations for liner. pale people can wear black, but colours like grey, navy, purple, gold all look really beautiful, interesting and are easier to wear.

for foundation, my new love is by terry - i use the LUMIÈRE VELOUTÉE foundation in Ultra Fair

This spotlight foundation floods your complexion with light. Its advanced correcting technology focuses on dull complexions and imperfections for double high-lighting action.
Its lumi-diffusing skincare complex combines the soothing, anti-stress and protective power of 6 botanical extracts to sweep away darkness from lackluster complexions, instantly chase away shadows and help conceal signs of aging and fatigue.
Ultra-smoothing chromatic agents offer pixel-perfect skin texture correction by creating a lumi-tensing micro-network to optically diminish wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots and small blemishes.
Close-up on a fluid yet powdery texture that caresses your face with a silky matte veil. High-definition coverage reflects the light for an amazingly natural camouflage effect. Your complexion is perfectly even, intensely corrected and totally embellished. It dazzles with luminosity for a lasting glow with show-stopping radiance.

seriously, i get so excited to put my foundation on in the morning it's THAT good :lol: it has pink undertones which blend really well with my skin, i don't need to use concealer because it's slightly heavier coverage than i'm used to (although it doesn't feel it) and it stays put! can emphasize dry skin though  and the glow...it's like nothing else - i can't describe it, but i don't think i could achieve such a natural and healthy glow with any other product
