Pale / Fair Skin - What Are Your Fave Products?

i have been trying gasoline's tips and im finding it so hard to get the eyeliner directly on the lash line. i have poked myself in the eye numerous times since ive been trying and i swear i must have scratched my eyes as they are constantly red! ahhhh, vanity.

Oh Nikita, I never meant for you to hurt yourself.:flower: Hmm, perhaps you are using a too sharp pencil point, or applying it with too much pressure?

This is what I know of eyelash/brow tinting. (I should note that I don't have personal experience with it, just what I've read/heard.) There are lash/brow tints that last for a few days. Those are completely fine, but I'm not sure they live up to their claims.:innocent: Then you have the other kind of tinting, which really does work, and lasts for quite a while. Until recently, it was not FDA-approved, and the information about its safety is still shady. In other words, salons and companies may have found a loophole around safety issues to be able to apply or sell it to clients.

Secondly, there is no way of testing whether you'll have an allergic reaction to it. With hairdyes and many skin products, you do a patch test first, right? Well, the pupils and eye area are like no other part of the body, so there's nowhere to do a patch test. I would advise not trying tinting even once if you have other allergies or easily irritated skin.

Finally, sometimes people who've encountered no problems using the tint eventually develop an allergic reaction on their pupils and/or eye area. You may have heard of women who color their hair for years and suddenly develop nasty scalp rashes, imagine this happening to your eyes.:ninja: I don't want to be all doom and gloom, but this is definitely something where I would proceed with much caution. I do know a couple of girls who are very pleased with lash/brow tinting.

^^I use a Danish brand called Hanne Bang in black, for brows and lashes - my brows are blonder than my hair and it looks stupid  I use a (cheap) firm slanted eyeliner brush to apply the black goo with, and I can easily get into the corners. I don't dye my lower lashes though, that doesn't suit me. And you don't go blind if you get the stuff in your eye, it just stings for 5 mins. Of course you have to rinse with water, but it's no biggie :D

I received the Becca creme blush, and it is perfect! It's a nice cool pink, easy to apply, blends like a dream and it gives a very nice sheen to the cheekbones  It looks insanely natural, I posted a pic of wearing it in the Becca thread. I want to buy the whole shabang :ninja:

BTW gasoline I don't think allergic reactions should be much of a problem with permanent eyelash dye. You're not supposed to apply it directly to the pupils, you know, it's not supposed to get onto the skin. The dye I used is approved by the Danish government and EU, so I think it's pretty safe. There aren't many ingredients in the dye I use.
EDIT:
The dye you can buy in stores isn't as effective as the dye used by salons which also means that it doesn't last as long.

You're right, and I know it's been approved now. But I'm speaking worst case scenario (and dyes can irritate the pupil/skin even without touching it). You know me by now, always the resident party pooper...

Dyes can't irritate anything they aren't touching. Unless there are harsh vapours, which there isn't (unless you're bleaching of course)

sorry gasoline, ha ha, i meant to say i am lazy and/or impatient and halfway through i get careless and, well, thats how it happens.

the_ida, my lashes and brows are also lighter than my hair and look ridiculous. my sister is like, oh thats so cool and im like, i look like a sick alien/conehead with no mascara on and you think its cool. coming from she who has the same long curly lashes as mine, but they are naturally dark brown. anyway, the kind you use doesnt appear to be available for shipment to the us, but i found 2 more that are. permalash and 1000 hour lash.

a few years ago i used swiss o par and didnt have any reactions to it and i was very careful. i think i just didnt apply it correctly (i used the brush it came with) so, i gave up on it quickly. im going to try this myself one more time and if its just as bad as last time, i will try it in the salon. thanks for the tips and i will actually post a before and after if i can get focus on my lashes. i dont intend to do my brows as they are barely there anyway, i think it would just highlight how sparse they are.

hmm i bought MAC Well Dressed satin blush recently. it looks like a light medium cool pink when you look at the pan and when you swatch but on my cheeks its slightly rosier than i'd like. so i tried with foundation underneath so i can neutralize it but it still looks the same. im picky as hale and its not about brands! Well Dressed is by no means horrible on me but i still prefer Maybelline Siamese Pink blush, which is actually more of a true cool pink with no rose/red tones.

Can't give enough love for Stila's oil free sheer cover tinted moisturiser...light 01 is perfect

There's something to be said for what our loved ones find cool or attractive about us, even if we don't see it ourselves. I think that light eyelashes and brows can look beautifully ethereal. Here is an example (that admittedly may not be to everyone's taste):

Or look at one of my favorite models, Johanna Jonsson, though I couldn't find a no-makeup photo.

She's got my favorite shade of pale skin too, btw. Sometimes I wish my brows and lashes weren't so dark compared to the rest of my features, I actually used to bleach my eyebrows white when I was a redhead, so it would look more natural.:ninja: The grass is always greener...

My brows are coloured so unevenly. Barf. White blonde in the outer part and medium grey in the inner part. They make me unhappy.

MAC Morning Glory Lustreglass & MAC Cultured Lipglass

i didnt think i was all that pale anymore because back in June i got a horrible sunburn and ive still got some color left from it. i thought wrong, i still get randm commeents about my skin tone. my Race & Ethnicity professor was going around the room asking everyone to state their ethnicity and when i told him he was like "wow you're really pale for Chinese!"...i responded "yeah and this is me with a tan!"

it was a totally deja vu moment. back in my Freshman year of high school, my health teacher was talking about skin cancer/sun protection and she asked "who the was fairest of them all..." in our class. everyone and their momma turned around and pointed at me. i was quiet so i really thought no one noticed me but it was funny because no one even had to look around they just said oh i know and pointed at me.

That probably would have happened to me expect it would be that I'm really white for a Dominican.

^ it was so hard to tell some of my classmate's ethnicities! we are breaking down stereotypes with looks and there are lots of mixed kids where im from. its a very interesting class :)

i dont fill in my brows but from what ive seen on others, a great brow pencil for light hair(since im blond right now) and light skin or even dark hair and light skin if you prefer a softer, more natural looking brow is MAC Lingering automatic pencil. i would try that if i ever wanna do a more polished 'done' brow for special occasions/a night out but i dont want anything too dramatic and i love that the pencil is teeeeeny tiny. ive always wanted to try MAC Underage lipglass since i already have pale pink lips but i dont think of that as fool proof when applying this gloss without a mirror...which i do all the time but i dunno about this one because of how opaque it seems. oo and also i think MAC Dreamy lipglass would look nice on pale skin, its a dirty light pink.

my sister is more medium-light toned but MAC Pretty Plush Plushglass works on her as well fair skinned girls that ive seen. its like a sheer pearly pink shade that makes lips look really juicy! unfortunately i dont really like the plumping and cinnamony action going on with plushglasses. i have Plus Luxe, a neon hot pink in tube but more reddish on :( lips which is a bit too dramatic for my liking unless its Halloween or something. i prefer the vanilla-y non tingly Lustre/Lipglasses.

...and i shouldnt even been thinking about buying more makeup $$$! but nothing wrong with planning ahead... hahaha

^ I love like those creamy type of blue-pink lipstick. gloss is nice but my lip is kinda too pigmented sometimes, which is wried.
btw kissablekae what kinda foundation u usually use? because my face is very transculent and it is tough for me to find a good foundation >.< like my face can look oliveish to pink-ish depends on the light...
and yea i remember my relatives in Canada always say that im pasty... lol it is so annoying lol....

I have never been able to find concealer that's white enough---not yellow or pink, but actually white enough to blend in on my face. At the moment I'm using Lancome Maquicomplet in Ivoire, but it's somewhat visible (which I hate). Any suggestions?

Lancome's lightest shades are way too dark for me, and I'm not even Dita Von Teese-pale. There are plenty of brands mentioned on this thread that produce great shades for pale skin.

However, white-based concealer is rare because it isn't the best choice. Yellow or pink-toned concealers both have their benefits, depending on your undertones and what you want to cover up. Moreover, concealer designated for blemishes should be a touch darker than your skintone.

Ive switched back to my tried and tested foundation: Moisture Plus Foundation in [01] Porcelain by Barbara Daly [they also do an oil-free formula]

This really is a superb foundation and only after a break from it have a realised this actually. This is bar far the lightest foundation I have found and although the packaging is "no frills" they do not scrimp on the quality of the makeup itself.

[^I think this shade is 02 ivory]

In fact the whole range is brilliant. The little concealer pots [in 01 fair] is also another holy grail product. It works wonders on dark circles.

[^again, one of the darker shades, the fariest is yellow based]

And the best bit? its all under £10! I have tried every makeup brand going, from purse friendly Rimmel to not so purse friendly Chanel and everything in between; you name it, Ive tried it. And I seem to always come back to this range.

Unfortunately the only place you can get this is in the larger Tescos stores, however, it is worth a trip. This range is often on a 3 for 2 offer so if you want a third item to get then I also recommend the Face Lift moisturiser-cum-illuminate. It makes skin appear dewy and healthy plus its packed with loads of vitamins and other goodies like apricot and wheatgerm.

Tescos should pay me for this!

jjbunny79, i feel your pain. i hate the world pasty!
im born and raised in California so you know the people in my city love their tan! B) its the older Asian women(my mom included) that oo and ahh over my pale skin, they say i look like a little porcelain doll. just dont pinch my cheeks now!

for jjbunny79 & Virginelle's foundations concerns :
right now im using L'Oreal True Match in Neutral 1 Soft Ivory. they have even lighter ones, like W1 looks lighter than N1 in the bottle. ive been bouncing back and forth between N1 and Warm 2 Light Ivory for a while they are very similar as in they are not really darker or lighter than each other except the W2 is obviously : more yellow. then realized oh hay i have one of those 10X(magnified) Lighted mirrors!! so i tried one on each under eye and noticed W2 left a slight yellow tinge and N1 obviously a Neutral(Virginelle mentioned founations not being 'white' enough) blended in perfectly. W2 is great if you do have a slight yellow but not SIMPSONS yellow like many foundations seems to make me look...i think both are great colors for people not cartoons.

im not naturally super super flushed but my cheeks are slightly pink. i dont put foundation over it because i like it! i still like to wear a light pink blush so i can still have a bit of color on my cheeks from a distance. Maybelline Siamese Pink is still my favorite duo. lately ive been using both colors to soften it, i think my 'tan' is fading very quickly and i hate it when i feel like blush over powers my face/other features.

i used to use Covergirl Fresh Complexion concealer in Creamy Neutral.

^ i posted a little thing with this photo in the Fair/Pale skin thread :) as a lil bump bump bump since that thread hadnt had new comments in a while.

my lips are the opposite, jjbunny79! they are pale pink, i usually stick to sheer glosses. the more pigmented stuff is left for special nighttime occasions orrr if i want the focus of my look that day on my lips.

both L'Oreal and Covergirl as does many brands whether its expensive or inexpensive have an iffy ranges of colors. but who really cares if they can just find one that matches their skin nicely! am i right or am i right?! some colors look great and some look like nothing ive ever seen before. ive seen crazy sh*t. some oompa loompa shades, some piglet pink shades(i thought the foundation was a liquid blush no lie!) and luckily some that are great and actually match my skin pretty well. the thing about drugstore is that you cant try it on and you just have to deal with store lighting.

but i havent had any more luck with more 'upscale brands' even though i get to try them. i usually leave empty handed or with the wrong color and it gets either returned or i mixed with my lighter foundations which is such pain in the butt when im in a rush and i have to wake up at 6am for school and mixing a foundation everyday can be very inconsistent. i notice if i have too much of the lighter one or too much of the darker foundation, itll bug me for the rest of the day. people have suggest i mixed my own batch to keep but honestly skin tones change so often due to the seasonal changes, i dont want to have to waste the premade batch or mess it up by adding more etc but if it comes down to it ill do what i have to do!

i need to go back to MAC and get rematched but i have a feeling even if they are light enough they still might be too warm/yellow. i bought CHANEL concealer pen a while back in the lightest color, Fair was okay but my 'tan' faded so its probably too dark for me now to repurchase. so far these are too dark/yellow on me : CHANEL, Stila, Smashbox.

hopefully i covered all the bases with your questions. lemme know if i missed anything!

'sauce' : ME
