Pearls

Just a question...

My Dad just came back from India and bought me some beautiful pearls... he said it was from 'The City Of Pearls' - do any of you know the real name of this city or where it is? Just out of curiosity...

Thanks :flower:

Though pearls are a classic staple, I don't really wear them in a classic way. I pile loads of strands over a graphic print t-shirt and wear with black drainpipe trousers. Or I try to wear different coloured pearls.

I like pearls. Although I don't have any real ones, I bought some off ebay a couple weeks ago. There is one Long strand of white and like 4 shorter ones.

Here's a pic of what I got:

I've got a small chocker of south seas (white) but just never wear them - sorry I did once when the twin set thing was going on - they're a bit too old maidish for me.

I luv Pearl necklace! I got so many of them and they match with everything*
Just got another one from my bf today ^^

Pearls complete my look- whether I'm wearing them as a belt, or wound around my wrist, they're classic, chic and simple! I adore them-- this all thanks to Jackie Kennedy and Coco Chanel!!

^I love wearing them in different ways too....as a belt, strung on a bag.

Right now, instead of wearing them as necklaces, I prefer things like pearl buttons on cardigans or pearl embellishment on shoes. Of course if I had those Chanel pearl necklaces, I wouldn't object!

It's a great way to make an ordinary outfit have some "wow" factor.

I personally don't wear pearls but that's just me.

I have choker and opera-length pearls, and a variety of pearl earrings, but I've never wanted a pearl bracelet or ring because pearls are so delicate. I tend to whack my hand into things pretty regularly. Shattering one's jewellery is a baaaaaad thing.

I think Pearls are great, but not necessarily worn in a classic strand.
Different designs are key if you're going for a more modern look. Depending on what I'm wearing, I could go classic or funky- usually funky.

merged - plz remember to do a search before making a new thread jackieonassis

Have a question, since most of you seem to know much more about pearls than I do. My aunt has given me 2 different pearl necklaces, one of which has a single gold pearl on the end. Since my aunt is Japanese, it's hard to communicate, but she had said that the color is true to the pearl and isn't coated on. I haven't been able to find anything in this rich of a gold color, only maybe a "golden" sheen. Does anyone have any idea where these pearls come from and who might sell them?

if the pearls are small- up to 9mm, you probably have a string of akoya pearls, natural, not coated or colored as many pearls are nowadays.

i loooooove pearls too and prefer the baroque shape to round ones.... have seveal lovely pieces of southsea and tahitian pearls.

Bump!

What a fabulous thread.

LOVE the photos of Carrie from SATC with the long, layered pearls.

I've decided to incorporate pearls into my wedding theme. Now I just need to decide if I want to wear some for my wedding.. :) If anybody has any ideas... ;)
