as for the peasant skirt trend, it's pretty much a 'done' trend. it's been around the block and back again. with that said, I'm a bit mixed because I like long, full skirts... I own several. I think they are pretty. BUT...I hate the way these are styled. I don't like the way I see them worn by most people - it's like there is this formulaic 'style'...it's too fussy and unoriginal. and I'd never wear cowboy boots with one...

somtimes..you just need to mix and match...but some people ...don't know how to!...(or just have a way too unique sense of style) :p

I went to Ralph Lauren (the boutique) and they had the F/W collection in already which is gorgeous BTW and very well priced. But they had this gorgeous peasant/gypsy skirt it was floor length and done in a sheer lame type material that only had a little bit of metallic on it, it was so gorgeous and the material was spectacular. It was $400 and my friend wanted it soo badly, I dont blame her, it was gorgeous and somewhat sexy.

At Urban Outifitters we got one that every other tier was lace, very sexy.

the length of vera wang's dresses is what i wear, i wouldn't like it longer than that. it feels just great for summer.....

What about "patterned" peasant skirts?

Etro has done some very gypsy ones which looks luxurious and trendy but would be hard to wear once this trend tapers off:

From NM.com (though I know it is a dress, but you get the idea) and the high-street copy by Spanish brand, Mango.

and a pic of the skirt/dress trend:

Recently I was over at my friends house and they didnt tell me that there was aparty we were going to and it needs to be somewhat dressed up

I thought we were just bumming in the beach....

I had a turqoise peasant skirt with me and to update it a bit I got some tulle and lace and made a "belt" gathered by a huge crystal brooch I borrowed from that friend. Borrowed a petticoat from her and folded my skirt in half and pinned it inwards on the petticoat so that it was about knee length and yu can see a part of the petticoat lace stick out. Paired it with a black semi loose tube top and a tux jacket and simple silver strappy heels. I saw a 2 girls at the party with peasant skirts on...but mine looked entirely different.

Some people look nice in them but personally I would feel so bag lady-ish. I tend to like more fitted pieces and I just could not picture myself in one. I prefer the ones that fall to the mid-calf much better than the ankle length. I think they're more flattering.

i was inspired by this thread and bought a gorgeous one today: in light gold and light brown, similar to this one:

, but without the graphics. i love it!!!
i might post a pic later if anyone's interested.....

The Tuleh are gorgeous, but they're not peasant skirts IMO. They're longer, cut on the bias, and made of silk. I have a few of those, they're timeless. I feel like a siren when I wear them, they swish when I walk.

Peasant skirts, on the other hand, umph. I see too many of the cheap Indian cotton ones, tiered with ruffles, in garish colours. I think this trend will play out way before the end of the summer. It's already suffering from overexposure, IMO.

I saw a girl today with one of these Boho skirts, a white tank top, cowboy boots, a black urchin hat, big hoop earrings and huge sunglasses. She looked like a walking cliche.

Beyonce Knowles of Destiny's Child & Cate Blanchette both tried out the same skirt from Gaultier's line.

^ I'm surprised to see cate in that gaultier skirt...it seems a bit much for her.

I agree, the tuleh ones don't look like peasant skirts to me, nor do the perry ellis... my favourite type of peasant skirt is a dirndl type of skirt...something a little more alpine/milkmaid peasanty. they're not quite as common, and very sweet imo. ;)

i somehow have the feeling that this trend is already over, before the summer really started.....does anyone else see the same?

yeah, it's like everyone snapped this one up too fast. Usually it takes a while until I see everyone wearing something, but this trend is pretty much done now. People will still wear it the whole summer though but it still already feels over.

Some of the runwaypics posted I wouldn't call peasant skirts.

I resisted it for awhile but I finally bought one. It does seem as though the trend is dying down a little bit among the fashionista crowd in Toronto (I'm seeing more people wearing just above the knee shorts than the skirts lately), but I'll probably still wear it during the summer since its so practical and light.

I resisted for a long time, but I finally caved and bought one. When you have a couple of 90 degree days, the idea of wearing along flowy skirt becomes very appealing when the alternative are pants.

its all about how you wear it...for example i have a knee length rich green peasant skirt from the 60's...here is an example outfit:

-green peasant skirt
-cream linen button up collared shirt (with a few buttons undone, sleeves rolled up and under...)
-sand v neck sweater (with sleeves rolled up)
-brown leather belt with large copper medallions encrusted with turq.
-gold/copper metallic brocade pumps with high heel

its much different than the normal..."wear it with a white tank and a beaded necklace, instant chic"...look that i have been seeing everywhere.

btw, JPG did them the best:heart:
