I wanted this thread to be filled with people who we all think are intelligent, classy, graceful and admirable, as opposed to the Kimora Lee's of the world. I was reading the Baby Phat thread and wanted to focus on the positive, not the negative. To start off, I think Oprah Winfrey is a very classy lady and I admire her so much for her strength and her dedication, not to mention the incredible success she has made for herself. She's amazing to me.

Also, one of my favorite actresses Nicole Kidman, who I admire a lot for putting up with her philandering husband leaving her for someone who was (IMO) so not worthy of filling NK's shoes, and moving on to have an incredibly successful movie career. She's a great example of resilience and strength. I love her!!

Christy Turlington is a intelligent, spiritual, beautiful and elegant woman

Amber Valetta, very gracious and elegant, with lots of class.Cate Blanchett too.

Kate Winslett. She seems smart and funny and down to earth, doesn't get herself into a million scandals, but isn't all stuck up and priggish. Plus I think she's completely beautiful.

I think Gwyneth Paltrow & Cate Blanchet both have 'class'. There are so few that have self respect & dignity these days. Most famous people come across as being 'un' classy by virtue of their huge egos and extreme vanity - attributes which I don't think are very classy.

I love Alicia Keyes. I didn't really realize how great she was until I saw the video for "If I aint got you" and shes on the rooftop in the snow playing the piano. For some reason that stuck with me. Shes so talented and I don't see her selling out anytime soon.

I also admire Mandy Moore because even to this day she is the only one of those pop stars that has stayed true to herself and dresses classy and sexy (but the classy sexy). I don't care how long Jessica Simpson held out, she doesn't have an ounce of class or grace in her.

And just out of the blue I admire Kristen Davis from Sex in the City because I love the way she dresses and every time I see her on a talk show shes so warm and funny.

Boris Johnson! Eton and then Balliol College...you can't get classier than that:

Everyone else who had class is dead, like Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich - a woman who feels compelled to wear gowns all the time isn't classy in my book...a woman who wears suits on the other hand:

And Gabrielle Chanel may have been a rubbish fashion designer but she was quite classy:

Great topic! I would say Queen Rania, Maria Shriver, and Audrey Hepburn. but there are many more...... just can't think of them right now :flower:

Oprah Winfrey.... the quality and the content of her shows are very inspiring. She's amazingly brilliant!

Kirsten Dunst, she's got so much class.

people with class?
kate moss
gwyneth paltrow
cate blanchett
the olsens
liv tyler
angelina jolie (now)
uma thurman

i disagree with "oprah." i think her class comes from her stylist. and i can't stand her "i'm holier than thou, but i have low self-esteem attitude."

I also want to add Glenn Close because I met her at the LA Stepford Wives premiere and she was so gracious and sweet to all of us normal folk standing by the red carpet. She was one of the few who actually came by and shook hands and signed autographs, and she had a good sense of humor.

I would normally have agreed with you, except- you're forgetting two major male icons with a great deal of class. Both Peter O'Toole and Sidney Poitier are still alive.

Okay- Audrey Hepburn!
Now that I've done that...
My list of contemporary actresses. Not totally related to their selection of roles, although it would naturally play a part. For example, no appearing in say, Dumb and Dumber. However, generally pointless early roles are understandable.
This is just to say- at this point, they seem to exude a feeling of class. :flower:

Cate Blanchett
Liv Tyler
Kirsten Dunst
Kate Winslet
Raquel Weiz
Susan Sarandon
Selma Blair
and...
the Oslens (sorry)

The qualifications, for me: They carry themselves with grace and dignity. They are not sloppy, saggy or inelegant. They are rarely rude, if ever, or obscene. This type of star wouldn't have stupid, drunken exploits. And if they did, they wouldn't make a general announcement about it to the general public. *cough*Scarlett-elevator*cough* These people tend to be slightly more serious and intelligence is definately a requirement. They would be interested in causes outside of their field as an actor and pursue them with a passion. For example, the newer image of Angelina Jolie. Her work in Cambodia exudes this type of goodness and dignity. The star wouldn't appear in a pure blockbuster without some sincere motive (and not just making money!). For example, Kate Winslet's role in Titanic, which despite being the money-maker that it was, was also a legitamite role. Outfit-wise, the men would appear shaved and well-groomed. (No Tom Cruise, etc. scruffiness). They wear ties to events, not open shirts, etc. And they would never, ever appear in running shoes to a serious function. Even when travelling the streets, these stars put some thought into their wardrobe. For the female, nothing too short, or revealing. More classic styles are important, and simple is better. No label hawking, discretion is a mark of class.
These stars have what is necessary to be what they are, but they don't flaunt it.
To me, that is the definition of class...

... Can they be people from the past?

Audrey Hepburn of course!
