Betinapple you look great :)

I disagree though- You can still wear a long boyfriend blazer and maintain a feminine style. Just buy the blazer fitted (1-2 sizes down), and wear it open over your dresses and tights. This look gets done alot here in Australia as most girls tend to dress very "girly" here..

well of course you can be girly and wear a boyfriend blazer, I just think that the fitted blazer fits the girly-girl style better. But it's good having different opinions (:

My biggest problem with my personal style is that the things I like are never great for my body type! Cute, kind of twee, retro style - works because I'm top heavy, but I don't always love all the polka dots and peter pan collars. Edgy, motorcycle chic a la the Paris Vogue editors? They're all long and leggy and thin-framed! I, sadly, am not. This makes me resort to constantly wearing leggings with slightly long t-shirts and a plain black cardigan - maybe sometimes a blazer. It gives me this kind of sleek, yet curvy figure that I can deal with.

I think it's really hard to be able to experiment with fashion when a lot of fashion these days is made for tall and thin women. Or maybe I'm just not creative enough? I don't know, but it's a struggle everyday for me not to feel like I'm being redundant and boring in my outfits. On the one hand, I'd like to branch out a little more and try new styles...on the other, I know what I'm comfortable in and that makes my life so much easier!

^Being leggy and thin framed is no guarantee to looking good or wearing clothes that suit your body type ;) What will look good on a curvy frame may not look good on an athletic frame, and vice versa. Your body shape is no barrier to being fashionable. You just need to play around with different shapes and styles to work out what flatters your shape. I'm top heavy too,so it's all about balancing out my top half with my bottom half ;)

I really want to try the boyfriend blazer look. My usual style is girlie, ie dress, black tights, flats. What should I look for when I shop for a blazer that's "investment worthy" and doesn't look too business suit? And pics for recommendations. Thanks! :)

I think a long, pretty structured boyfriend blazer could look very good over a short girly dress. A nice contrast.

I just think you should try on a lot of things. Maybe get one of your girlfriends honest opinions, since many people usually are very hard on themselfes. Maybe it is not as bad as you think? :)

Im not tall. Im quite thin, but I'm curvy (2 sizes difference between waist and breast/hips). I think most styles work for me, even though the ones where I show of my waist are the best.

I've been wondering, how can individual pieces of clothing, worn almost the same way, contribute to vastly different styles and "vibes". I mean, for eg. Sofia Coppola wears tight jeans plus loose shirts a lot. Her style has been described as laid back, casual, parisian, even all american basics. Kirsten Dunst does that too but her style is more "granny" and "hipster". Alexa Chung also does this combo quite a fair bit but her style is nothing like S.C's and K.D's. What else is there that goes into their style that makes it so different? Is it looks?

Btw, to add to the mix, casual Angelina Jolie wears a lot of the things that S.C wears also. Flats, t-shirt, slim jeans. But I get very different feelings looking at casual A.J and casual S.C.

That's a really good question. :)

I think it has a lot to do with personality and previous stereotypes that they've fallen into more than anything else. For instance, Alexa has always been seen as hipster. So, it's kind of been ingrained in people's heads; it's like she has it stamped on her forehead and she won't ever be able to escape that image.

^I guess it contributes to the perceived persona, but I don't think that really answers it. If you look at her old pictures, Alexa's dressing style haven't changed much. Neither has S.C's(well, I'm talking about the older S.C after her super long straight hair era). But why was S.C branded as subtle and well-dressed and Alexa, hipster and IT girl?

I always have trouble with sizes, must be genetic.I am tall and thin but have wide hips,my legs are slight and long..and my crotch seems unusually small.Finding pants is an unsolvable crisis.
I just ordered some salwar kameezs (traditional women's attire of Pakistan and sometimes India),I just get so bored of clothes these days.I have painting classes so I can't wear nice clothes, and I can't fit the shoes I like,my feet are really narrow, plus most of them are leather which being a vegan I do not use or buy.
I love the styles of Audrey Hepburn and Jean Seberg and adapt the basic lines and styles to my wardrobe as much as possible.Simple, well tailored shirts, sweater, shift dresses, cropped pants. And the colors I love are magenta, peacock blue, heather, lavender, moss green and mustard. I never go shopping in real life, I DESPISE malls and their psychological hold on humans and what they "need". Still in search of the perfect vegan ballet flat.

^But where do you do your shopping? Don't online retailers and ebay also make people buy things they "need" with their perpetual "sales" and the clock ticking away, convincing you that it's a good deal when it's not or that the item that you so desire is going to disappear into the masses within min/hour/day if you don't cough up enough to redeem it? More so in fact because everything is so convenient and you don't even have to open your wallet. Just paypal everything and you're done?

On vegan flats, I think Natalie Portman used to have her own line of very adorable vegan flats. I'm not sure if they're still in production now but you can do a search on it. What about Stella McCartney? She's one known vegan designer, or you can try esperadillies. I think I've seen some rather "ballet shaped" ones made of out good quality canvas and rope and rubber for the sole.

Yes,there was Te Casan..in the days when I chose not have to have a computer. And actually this month my house was vandalized so I did NEED to get some clothing, unless I would have wanted to scamper round in old jeans and shirts.I have a professional job and am required to maintain a certain respectable air for the job.
But don't worry...I've been able to go for over a year without computer, credit card or technology of any kind. I'm getting out of samsara soon,as soon as I have enough to buy a one way ticket to Nepal.

I think the devil is in the details so to speak. Hairstyles, makeup, bangles, necklaces, shoes, bags. All those things can make the same t-shirt and jeans look like any number of different styles.

That's actually one of my biggest personal style challenges. I often under accessorize and look plain. I need to work more at making the clothes look "mine".

I need advice!!

I wore my Givenchy lace tights for the first time today and they already have a couple of pulls :( Unlike other forms of hosiery, however, I'm thinking that a few holes in lace tights might actually add to the appeal- so a few snags are acceptable I suppose, but I'd like to not increase that number. Any tips on how to handle them so that I don't increase the number of snags? The best ways to store them and put them on? I'm going to buy two new pairs anyways- I love them! <3

^^ but if you compare say S.C(I know I'm using S.C a lot!she's odd because the way she dress should have made her boring but she's not) with Jennifer Aniston, they accesories the same way(minimal to almost not visible) and wear about the same things but J.A has been described as boring while S.C is the muse to Marc Jacobs!

KhaoticKarma, I don't wear any type of hoisery, it's just too warm where I stay, but I would say use a bit of fabric glue on the edges that have already been pulled to prevent existing nicks from becoming gaping holes. I've been told to try the rolling up method, whereby you roll it to the ankle before you wear it and then roll it up the full length of your leg instead of pulling on it. Then when taking it off to roll it down to about the ankles before taking it off.

I think it comes down to how it's pulled off. Personality also plays a big part in it. Same with things like hair, makeup, and accessories. Certain celebrities can make a designer item look cheap *coughHeidiMontagcough* while others don't.

Thank you much!! ^_^

KhaoticKharma, you're welcome. Hope that helps.

Dija, but Hedi Montag is an extreme example, no? She's such an attention addict that it's almost pointless to discuss her because whatever she does will be more important that what she wears, no? But similarly behaving people(i.e equally low key or equally high profile etc.), dressed in similar articles of clothing in similar ways produce such utterly different styles. I'm not saying that personality doesn't affect the perceived style, because it does, but unless one has an in your face or outlandish personality, the small differences in personality does not seem to account for the large difference in how we percieved one's style.

I'm almost at the point where I think it's down to body type(then again, S.C and A.C has about the same body type) and looks. i.e if S.C looks like J.A, even with the same hairstyle and makeup, she'll look more like soccer mum than indie director. But if that's so, isn't it depressing?

I love mixing designer with some key vintage pieces...

Here is what I wore today.
