Personal Style

it takes a certain ammount of inflated ego to respond to this topic...

...

i could explain what i consider to BE stylish...
*and we have a thread on 'what is style'
but i wouldn't sit around expounding on the REASONS why I am stylish...

that in and of itself is not very stylish imho...
'humility' is stylish...

^_^

My sentiments exactly:wink: .

Softgrey, how "stylish" is it to accuse everyone replying of having an inflated ego? I didn't say anything about bragging about your style. I just asked what it is that you think makes you stylish...what you concentrate on. That doesn't mean to have to go on a paragraph-long ego trip.

And I PM'd a mod yesterday asking for a merge.

to me its wearing clothes and accessories that make me feel super confident of myself.

to me being stylish involves looking presentable - apart from that it is up to your own individual sense of style :innocent:

I dont think softie was cutting on the thread... maybe.
Sounded just like another angle of 'what is style'. I think it's true. Someone who is stylish is more then liking NOT going to dwell too long on the reasons why they are stylish. ya'know.

What is style.
To me, seeing it in myself or others... is more a way of life. to a certain extent, just valueing style as something that is important, is what makes someone stylish. It's more the clothes.
Some people have it some dont. Thats for sure.
Do you think style can be learned or developed? probly right?
Just because you are stylish or have good style doesnt mean you dont sometimes look, act, or collect something unstylish.
I myself have go through many differnt phases. Sometimes I was very focues on more internal aspects of life and not so concerned with outer appearances. I dont think that made me unstylish. Just not focused on clothes/appearance.
If you are a 'healthy' person, you will still at times do unhealthy things (as a comparasion). yes???

interesting thread.

but true...
if you are not dressed well... then you do not look stylish
fair enough.

Goosemaster, that's the type of answer I was aiming for. Nothing egotistical about your response at all. Just a look at yourself. That's what it's about, just being able to look at yourself and perhaps realize something you hadn't thought about before. Really taking a look at your style and the way you feel about it once in a while can help you progress a lot.

When I first got into clothes and fashion, I concentrated on individual things and not an overall look or style. My closet was very haphazard. I was also too impulsive in my purchases, and have been concentrating on that very recently, really trying to narrow my wardrobe down to things that are special to me in some way.

I agree with those who say attitude is a big part of it. And I realized that my attitude and some pieces I owned did not necessarily work together, which is why I wasn't totally comfortable with them, so I've sold them now. And obviously comfort brings confidence, which I think is a key ingredient to wearing clothes instead of the clothes wearing you. You have to project energy into the clothes, not just let the clothes project energy into you, which they should still do to a degree, as certain clothes make you feel a certain way.

I know this stuff is really obvious, but I'm just kinda writing my train of thought.

alex...
maybe you assume that i think having an inflated ego is a bad thing...
but i didn't say that...
it may in fact be a valuable asset in accomplishing certain goals...

it's just not who i am...
it doesn't particularly appeal to me...
and it does sound quite a bit like bragging...

*chalk it up to my catholic upbringing if you like...
'the meek shall inherit the earth' ...
and all that...
:P

i can't help it...i've been brainwashed.......

....

I guess I just see it more as self-evaluation than bragging. Anyhow, thanks for the merge. :flower:

To me, personal style means to be able to express one's mood and aspirations, while keeping it fresh and distinctive...*

I'm doing this right now as well.... and it is really fun to use tfs as a boucing board. I never in my dreams would have thought I would be spending anytime on an internet fashion site... but what can I say... it's useful, fun, and I've met alot of fun cool people....

Don't know, I don't think I am 'stylish' yet at all since I am in a bit of a messy state, bouncing from one thing to another. BUT to me, style is when you pull an outfit together and you feel wonderful. When you feel unique and confident and you just want to go dancing somewhere because you 'work it' well. :P
For me it is also the ability to take an item and wear it in a way nobody but you would wear it. Oh, and not being over-trendy.
