I don't understand why he hasn't been imprisoned for the first offense--B&E, kidnapping, and r*pe, at least--to which he's already confessed.

I myself have been assaulted & battered by a lunatic on the sidewalk who I later discovered was merely on probation for assault with a deadly weapon. I mean, let's have all the minimum sentence requirements for the druggies, but some nut tries to shank me on street, and that's my problem. I was asking for it.

Nobody deserves to be plotted against like this, privileged b*tch or not. Lock him up. Hide the key.

It took me a double read to understand that 'shank' on the street was meant to be facetious. Phew. Braunstein is a wacko and he'll try anything to avoid paying for the misery he has caused others (no one deserves it no matter what).

^No, a guy really did try to stab me on the street! After punching me in the face! 8:00 AM on 7th and Mission! Not facetious at all! A rather unpleasant experience. Apparently he'd done it to other people, too, and never saw any jailtime for it. Scary. I dealt with it--I'm okay now. I give crazy street people a wider berth, is all.

I dunno what the proper rehabilitation is for folks like this. I get tired of nutty people who feel the need to be God's flaming retribution, though. Apparently, the guy who attacked me really saw me as the source of evil--because I was dressed well and looked happy. Whatever, egads! The public's need for safety is greater than the rights of one nut. Just put them away. Maybe they'll sort it out, I don't know.

I mean, I care that folks like this are obviously suffering and mentally ill, but that doesn't justify their actions. Even Thomas Szasz was against the "insanity plea".

I'm writing a book here, sorry...

May 18, 2007 -- Two more prosecution shrinks testified yesterday that Peter Braunstein has severe behavioral and personality disorders, but falls short of being a paranoid schizophrenic, as his lawyers insist he is.

Prosecutors are trying to prove Braunstein was in control of his actions on Halloween night, 2005, when the fired Women's Wear Daily media writer admittedly masqueraded as a firefighter and set off smoke bombs to trick his way into a former co-worker's Chelsea apartment.

He's hoping to beat kidnapping and sex-assault charges by claiming he was too crazy to have been acting intentionally.

"Given the uncertainty intrinsic in psychotherapy, I'm certain he doesn't have paranoid schizophrenia," testified Dr. Steven Hoge, director of Bellevue Hospital's forensic psychiatry division.

Bellevue psychologist Jessica Pearson agreed, saying her test results found no schizophrenia, thought disorders or hallucinations.
