Phoebe Philo - Designer

It's pretty disappointing not having her participate in fashion week. A fashion show is still such an important medium and platform for a fashion brand. And she would know better than anyone; every now and then I pull up her Céline shows and get goosebumps at how exciting and unexpected they are, not just in the clothes but in the shows themselves. All of the coolest models walking zig-zagging or circuitously around these elaborate sets to some unexpected soundtrack choice, from George Michael to Phillip Glass...

I think for the time being it is incredibly smart of her to not do runway at this point when it is so soon to her actually releasing pieces.

From what I see, there's still a fair bit that isn't sold-out so I think these drops are a way of her isolating what does and doesn't work for her clientele. Not only does she have all the clients and followers that have been waiting for her to come back, but she would have a slew of new fanatics and those generally interested where the views and intentions may align but the way they go about them is slightly different. I would say after a year or two she'll do runway at some point, but depends if she continues with the mini collection drop process too. The pieces are begging to be seen in motion, which I think is the only drawback of the collection drops and look books.

Plus, as others have said, what doesn't sell and what doesn't work will make for a rabid sample sale too later down the line. No runway means far less documentation so what doesn't sell can get swiped from existence online with minimal digital foot print/s, making what didn't sell seem like such a rare find already. She certainly is playing the waiting game and is sticking it out for the long haul.

It seems they made a few minor changes in the strategy, adding 'more to come' for the majority of sold out items. I hadn't seen that before. They still need to find a more sophisticated way to mark items sold out, instead of the red coloring of images.

You can see that the frenzy has already cooled a little compared to the launch, while actually I think this second drop had more interesting propositions overall.
I saw yesterday 80% of items are not sold out at all. The hype is over, it lasted for 10 minutes. Lets see how season 2 will sell…

some unexpected soundtrack choice, from George Michael to Phillip Glass...
I can't believe she used Phillip Glass for her shows. I'm literally bursting in awe. I have been obsessed with his music for decades, but it makes sense as he's a minimalist himself.
And I agree with the previous comment describing Phoebe as an iconoclast, that's exactly what she is and why we love her over any other brand inspired by her (please never call Phoebe's work 'quiet luxury', because I will personally find you to slap you).

I quite like the product this drop. I just wish that she could kind of switch up the presentation, switch up the mood. The gallerista look is so tired. Would be nice to see things styled and shown in a fresher way...why not try a lacquered chignon for fun? Why not something a bit moodier or cinematic for the campaign images? I know it's not really her thing...but her thing is getting a little stale, so it'd be nice to see her play a bit. Wishful thinking.

Sandra Huller is so great for Phoebe Philo. Love the Drive bag as well. Even if the clothing/style aren't my own personal taste and the prices are way out of my reach anyways, no one does it like Phoebe. Phoebe is honestly quite cheeky and that's what sets her apart from all of the other folks who are releasing similar clothes. You can tell she doesn't take herself too seriously in a way. I like that.

Honestly such a great casting choice, and very clever too just before the Oscars. Not far from her genius decision of casting Joan Didion for Céline at the time.
Even though she is almost exclusively dressed in Vuitton on red carpet appearances recently, I think Sandra completely fits the vibe Phoebe is going for.

At least they picked up on my earlier feedback to not so aggressively color the images red after items have sold out. It makes the whole experience a bit more sophisticated. Despite the absence of her own fashion show, Phoebe's influence was definitely present at the recent fashion weeks.

The first major cover featuring the Phoebe Philo collection?

POP MAGAZINE

Is this whole look by Phoebe? I only recognise the necklace

The styling is giving me the look of what her chloe would look like if she was there now, especially when it's worn by gisele 😯

The hotpants are also hers, I don't recognise the t-shirt though.

The Drive bag is cute but still waiting for that blockbuster bag. I can see her zeroing in on what it will look like. Experimenting with rectangle shapes and super thin straps or ties….

Fashion shows are also very expensive to put on and produce. A slow return to it all isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sure, for those that miss her doing shows it is one thing, but from a business/financial perspective, perhaps it is a smart move.

The shoes this season drop are amazing ! She will certainly make lots of women happy with this selection.

The latest drop is already a subtle shift forward. Something sleeker, easier and sexier in some way. Pricing of some of these things is rather eye opening, but if I'm being honest it isn't that far off from what the actual fashion market is like so who am I judge. I can't really afford any of this anyways, can only admire and ogle from afar 😂

She's an incredibly astute business woman. She's smart, and incredibly alert to the going ons of the space and market she sits within. Her slow return is to be admired if I'm being honest. There's something about this way I wish other designers would take on. You can't deny that even those that don't care for her are still slightly hanging out to see what the next drop and sets of imagery look like.
