Phoebe Philo - Life After Chloe - *Update* Creative Director for Celine

This would be fantastic, but I agree with what Luxx stated: Phoebe would be better off starting her own line.

is the gap in the UK very different from the gap in the usa? do they stock the same items? i've heard that the uk stores have much more expensive items...

Jackets are about £78 - £100, Jeans are £45 - £70 (although the (RED) jeans are £150!!!)

I think they are pretty on par price wise to be honest. You can get a Gap favorites tee for 12 quid. The items are pretty similar as well. I think the american Gap is a bit more 'american' ie more casual cut khaki's and the like but I would say 80% of the items are the same.

well, it'a a good fit, but who was working for the GAP way back in spring of 2004? i forgot, but she was good. there was that green trenchcoat that was very popular.

but i always thought that experience scarred the GAP forever because they lost all of their "basics-and-jeans" customers. even SJP couldn't reach an audience they wanted. hence the crap they've been selling lately. oh, well..its what sells. anywayyys:lol:, my point is that i think Phoebe will only remain a consultant, no more. At Chloe, for example, she really understood her customer, maybe she'll help the GAP understand theirs.

Phoebe Philo - Life After Chloe

"THE fashion-vine is abuzz with rumours that Phoebe Philo will launch her own fashion label after quitting Chloe exactly a year ago. The talk of Paris Mensweek was about when - not if - Philo would be announcing the launch of her new collection - one that would almost definitely be a hit if the enormous success of her collections for Chloe are anything to go by. After working with Stella McCartney at the French house since 1997, Philo took the helm as creative director in 2001 and instantly became a cult name to drop. She opened the first London store the following year. Her decision to resign, citing "personal reasons, especially wanting to spend more time with her new baby in the coming months", shocked the fashion industry and we've been waiting for a comeback ever since.

Anna's finger in the pie?

from NY Times 'Citizen Anna' that ran on the 1st of Feb, check out the full article (registration required)

"Ms. Wintour has also been busy trying to find a new employer for Phoebe Philo, the English star who left Chloé in 2005. Last May, Ms. Wintour invited Ms. Philo to a lunch in New York with François-Henri Pinault, the chief executive of PPR, the French luxury-goods group that owns brands like Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga.

“It was quite simple,” Mr. Pinault said of the lunch. “She thought it would be interesting for me to meet Phoebe.” He made it clear that PPR had no vacancies and no plans to start new labels. Nonetheless, Ms. Wintour pressed Ms. Philo’s case in a later conversation, and Mr. Pinault said he expects her to do the same this week, when they meet in New York, to discuss the spring Costume Institute gala, of which Balenciaga is a sponsor."

Thats interesting if Wintour is pressing for Philo to return to a label. PPR doesn't really have any openings but perhaps there is another opening somewhere out there in fashion. The only house I can think of that is sans a designer at the moment is Ungaro and Pheobe seems like the exact wrong choice for that label...

I just want her back so much

To be blunt, I think Paulo Melim Andersson should do the right thing and jump (before he's pushed!), after the upcoming S/S '08 show.

Chloe should then rehire Phoebe.

After all, Karl Lagerfeld returned to Chloe after a nine year absence (in 1992), so it would actually be quite fitting if Phoebe returned, too. :D

i think she will , but i have a feeling they will can him , just a hunch, unless he does a miracle with his summer 08 collection but i really doubt it. Chloe owes its success to phoebe, i dont think any female designer this decade has churned out so many hits like phoebe has . Thing is , phoebe was a chloe girl designing for other chloe girls , she understood her customer to the T.

true dat. at the same time, I like where Chloe is heading over now.

she's better off serving up to her clients that are "disappointed" with her leaving chloe.

Except...

The way I hear it, Phoebe Philo is not desperate to get back in the game. She has a child now, and certainly enough money for the time being (especially with her art star husband).

After working non-stop, with fashion tunnel vision, for almost ten years, it's understandable that she wants a break to be with her family. She's had offers for funding her own line, and she'll have more offers - and stronger ones - when she's ready to relaunch.

That Anna Wintour is interested in keeping her in the circle is a credit to Phoebe Philo's talent, vision, and branding - not another indication that Phoebe wants a job.

Unfortunately at this point, all we can do is sit back and wait...

Plus, wouldn't it be more interesting if she did some mid-market clothes instead of going back to Chloe? The girls who really want to wear her stuff couldn't afford it the first time around, anyway.

:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart: Faran

^ You could be right, but if she's not interested in relaunching her career, then why did she accept Anna Wintour's invitation of a lunch date with François-Henri Pinault? Surely she must have been aware of the motive behind it? Or are you suggesting that Phoebe was under the impression that it was just a social invitation and/or Anna tricked her into it?! :innocent:

Starting one's own fashion house (even with decent funding), is, understandably, a very daunting prospect for most people and designers who do, are often forced to spend so much time concentrating on the business side of things, that they end up neglecting the real reason they started the business; to design and produce beautiful clothing.

I agree that it would be great if Phoebe also produced diffusion lines (rather like Stella has), but there is a certain amount of design freedom that is afforded by not being constantly limited to cheap production methods and fabrics. So, for that reason, I think that, assuming she is thinking of returning to work at all, it would probably be better if she to returned, primarily, to R-T-W.
