Phoebe Philo - Life After Chloe - *Update* Creative Director for Celine

When I read the blurb on Vogue.com today my heart sank. I love what Phoebe has done at Chloe and I feel she is an incredibly talented designer. It would really be a shame to see her go, but I greatly admire her for having her priorities straight. I hope that even if she does leave Chloe, she will not leave the industry completely.

why isn't there any talk about her future plans in the fashion industry? it all sounds like she's up for a very long break from designing, or even more.....at least that's the feeling i got.....

After her SS'06 collection, I wouldn't mind at all if phoebe left. I think chloe worked much better when stella and phoebe were still a team. whether its a 'new' inspiration or just experimentation, based on what shes said in interviews, it doesn't seem she is going to continue directing chloe in the way we've come to love.

however, its difficult to imagine who else could take her job.. roland mouret might do as was mentioned earlier but I think it should be a woman as sexist as that may be.. the chloe girl in my mind has always been feminine, relaxed, a touch of coy.. but subtly strong.. imo, male designers always seem to sex things up in a different way.. rather than try to evoke that personality through the clothing.. sorry if i'm not making sense

^To leave from the money just to be around her family more....it just shows the kind of person she is and what's more important to her. It's a very down-to-earth,integral gesture, imo.

She is not leaving from the money at all! Her husband is rich enough and I am sure she has earned enough money to do whatever the hell she wants.

I have been hearing these rumours from insiders for a long time so it probably is true.

for one thing this is a /rumour'...not an 'announcement'...
and for another...i think that the point is that she would leave the industry ...
probably to become a full-time mom...

I'm sure she's got enough to do anything but still it's hard for designers to leave that kind of consistent machine of making money.

if am thoroughly saddened... I thought she was perfect for Chloe... but I think only she knows what is best for her....

but ..she didnt even designed the last collection... the design team did

no wonder it was so awful, i remember being backstage at the show thinking 'what the fug is all of this!'
the only nice thing in the show was a jacket that carmen kass wore, she agreed..

I suggest somehow it might be the co found that the team went well without her at her maternal leave, so just chucked her out.

I have heard from insiders that Phoebe decided to leave Chloe due to "creative differences" and that the next person lined up for the job is...Roland Mouret...

 Wow...I really hope that isn't the case. I can't really see what problem the Chloe bosses could possibly have with Pheobe. She has made them millions and made Chloe one of the most popular brands. So many celebrities wear her designs and her work constantly appears in the fashion mags...

 as much as i respect and love Roland's work,
he's not the best choice for Chloe, i thought Ivan M. may take over..

I also share Benzo's thoughts here..

Chloe's design team did quite well commercial-wise,
even though the last show (like Acid said) was a bit so-so

I did really love the past few chloé collections, and I liked the rather different s/s 06 one, but maybe not as much as the few before it. if you had told me Phoebe was leaving before s/s 06 show, I might have been devastated, but I think I'm interested to see where a new head designer can take it. And Phoebe has very valid reasons for leaving, so I can't be too upset if she actually does decide to leave chloé.

but...Roland Mouret? I don't know about that...

Agree

I must say that looking at the last Chloe collection, her heart has just not been in it.There has been no development/change in the brand in two years.

I understood that she'd been largely absent due to her new baby, but if this situation is not remediable in the near future it may be better for them to part ways.

Would be interesting to see who takes over, though.

I completely agree with you...I have noticed no change in the brand whatsoever...no new looks or styles coming out of it. It used to be so fresh and new and now I feel like it's the same ol stuff. Getting pretty boring.

Roland Mouret going to Chloe?

IS Roland Mouret really on his way to Chloe? Word is that the French-born, British-based designer will take over from Phoebe Philo should she decide that the commute is too much for her after all. When rumours began to emerge in October that Philo was tiring of travelling between London and Paris, and of spending so much time away from her little girl, Roland's name was bandied about as a possible replacement along with Helmut Lang and Jil Sander. But we hear that Roland, who sensationally announced in October that he was quitting the house that carries his name after coming to creative blows with his investors, is first in line. "As far as we know it is still a rumour," says a spokeswoman for Mouret, who will continue working at the Chelsea-based studio until the autumn/winter collection is finished. "Roland Mouret, the company, is planning to announce its own plans in January, but so far Roland himself is making no comment." (December 6 2005, PM)
