There's enough of a good foundation there for a designer to come in and build on, I don't think there's a need really for someone to rip out the walls and change it around. She helped them out actually by leaving at a good time. It seems the team was already beginning to transition the look a little, that should provide some cushion for the newcomer. Are people really fans of the clothes or is it just that bag with the big a$$ lock on it?

i thought i must have been at the wrong show when i saw the clothes, there were practically no items i could see anybody buying,
however she has been wanting to be based in london for a long time but the house still insist on her going to paris for 2 days a week so it came to a dead end.

this exactly sums up my thoughts (i was not impressed by s/s) but like someone else already said i'm glad that phoebe is concentrating on family and i think Mouret could be excellent diversity for a brand that is currently most famous for Rachel-Zoe's clients carrying their handbags...

the clothes were already well received before the silverado & paddington came out. i personally loved Chloe's 02 f/w, 03 and 04 collections. They were the best, esp 03 f/w.

In an article in WWD several months ago, I got the distinct impression that she was the bag designer. (Sorry, I can't remember exactly what it said now) And I wouldn't worry about someone coming in and turning the house of Chloe upside down. That only happens when a house is suffering. Look at YSL - it may not be as stellar as when Tom Ford was there, but the house is certainly trying to maintain his influence. I am quite sure that Chloe retains the rights to any designs Phoebe did while she was there (so expect more paddingtons - as long as there is a demand).

I agree. Although,he does have the play on gender mixes,there is a definite lack of whimsy I don't think will bode well at Chloé. But who knows...Roland does neither but he seems to be considered...so it could work,I suppose.

It´s tricky to bring in a new head designer, after all, with a new one, the design will look completely different and thus, they can probably forget about the Paddington or Silverado handbags, being part of the old designer´s work. They would have to start again from the scratch, establishing a new identity, handbag lines etc. etc.

Yvan Mispelaere would totally deserve taking over as head of design, I already liked some of what he designed for his own mainline - and since he is already part of the design team there´s no doubting that he could do well keeping up with what Chloé had been known for as well.

I would probably say, keep the design team at reign, it´s been a refreshing view to not only see one person bowing after the show.

I think they're mad if they let Yvan go...he's got experience from Prada and even gave Louis Feraud it's 15 seconds of limelight, not to mention his own stuff. Not so sure about Jean-Paul Knott for Chloe though..

i was going to add the same thing, because zoe was definitely at the fore of their bag designs.


while it is sad to see her go, i think we all do what is best for us. i am sure both will do just fine. will be interesting to see who they choose.

I can't beleive anyone would compare tom ford's ysl as a comparison to this. It was abysmal under Ford in my opinion, he was not right for it at all. With Pilati you get the original YSL influences and it's doing just fine commercially and well received critically as well. It just proves that a new designer can come into a house and re-infuse it in a different way but it can still be successful though quite different.

Totally Agree with Meg

Some designers are fit for specific houses. Sure we love them and their styles, but we have to remember that they aren't there own established designers, but rather working for an established house. Phoebe was good for Chloe, but just as Ford and Pilati for YSL, there will always be someone better....

With yesterday's resignation announcement by Phoebe Philo, Chloé's influential British creative director, those already popular totes, along with her new A-line dresses and chunky wood wedges, are destined to become collector's items. During her nine seasons at the helm of the storied Paris house, which she inherited from Stella McCartney, Philo's talents for practical tailoring and pretty dresses made the label a favorite of such celebrities as Natalie Portman and Jennifer Connelly. For spring, in a departure from her signature bohemian-chic style, she baptized a new look that evoked the innocence of the early sixties. Philo cited a desire to spend more time with her family as one of the reasons for her decision, but let's hope she finds her way back to the fashion arena in the not too distant future. In the meantime, here's a look at some of the designs that made her a familiar name in a relatively short period of time.

i think that this girl was probably at the top of her game when the spring 2005 collection walked down the runway. the french nonchalance she promoted, blossomed at that show. i mean, wasn't everyone saying, "oh, it's my favourite this season!".

but as french as her style may be, her vison is ( sorry, was) very global, no?
