What in the world? Well, at least this sets POP far apart from the rest of the fashion publications...

^^ JJ took the scan from here, and just cropped the cover out, its the same as on the first page. If he had any decency he would have credited honeycombchild and tfs in the first place!

I think she really was the perfect choice for this, but i just cant like it.

When I saw the thread title, it got me excited 'cause of the fact that it's Britney. But after seeing what the cover looks like, ugh, please, enough! I'm always wondering why Katie left this publication that used to be great and unique. :(

Looking forward to the content though.

Annoying. I really hate it when they take things without crediting... really frustrating, but never mind.

Grazia had the exclusive on this, they had the same on the previous two issues as well. They've clearly got a little pairing going on..

I did not think of the Courtney Love when I saw the cover and preview, but of the Cicciolina and her art series with Jeff Coons: the same mix of cutesy sweetness and vulgarity, same misty lighting and humourous faux-innocence.

Imo the cover is quite a triumph.
It's actually arresting and interesting. At first I was like 'WTF is this?!' but at least I paid attention which is more that can be say of most September covers so far. And it's the most intelligent use of Britney I've seen since that Rolling Stone cover of her posing in skimpy clothes in her childhood bedroom.

It's because they're published by the same people, Bauer Media Group.

There is another cover. I think Abbey Lee had two?

For her upcoming issue of Pop, Dasha Zhukova scored a big get: Twitter queen (and occasional singer) Britney Spears, who appears on multiple covers of the magazine. Todd Cole shot Brit-Brit for the glossy, and Takashi Murakami gave her the full kawaii Japanimation treatment. (We hear cartoon stickers will also appear throughout the mag.) Why Spears? “She’s feminine, sassy, strong-willed, determined: all the things a great Pop icon should be,” Zhukova told us from Moscow. “Couple that with some Japanese swimsuits and a Rodarte wedding gown and I think she is pretty much Pop personified!” Apparently the idea arose when Zhukova was discussing the idea of manga characters with Murakami—and voila, a cover star is born. The mag will be out September 1—it also includes a collaboration with Cindy Sherman, who reinterprets the Chanel woman, an interview with Hillary Clinton by Barbara Bush (!), and stories on Barbara Kruger, MNDR, and Martha Stewart (!!)—and we’ve got your exclusive first look at two of the covers, above.

I love this!!!!!

It's meant to look cute and superficial - I think it's so fun and quirky.

Can't wait for this to come out!

It's like they're bringing Britney back to her roots ;)

i always found the japanese fascination with lolitas creepy and this cover pretty much solidifies that. Brit isn't cute or 17 anymore. she just looks crazy on the cover

Are you @#$%*! kidding me? Well trust me I wont be buying this issue of POP it has Britney on the cover and it looks like a Japanese magazine's font got mixed in with this mags normal front type. I can't even possible fathom how anyone would walk past it in a book shop and want to buy the magazine since it looks like a little kid magazine.

i love britney as i do pop; but doesnt she look a bit courtney love-ish [?]

so much writings, and so much colours, Sooo cheap!
One of the tackiest cover of the year for my taste... looks like a japanese teenager magazine, LOL.

I gasped when I saw Britney written on the title of the thread, she's one of the rare celebrities I've always appreciated and supported (for some reasons :ninja:). Although she has never struck me as relevant fashion-wise, I'd rather see her over any other "style icon" who has countlessly had her face plastered over the cover of a fashion magazine.

As for the covers in themselves, I'm literally appalled at so much tackiness involved for the sake of making them eye-catchy. Seeing this actually prompts me to revise my opinion as to US Vogue and its generic covers... at least they're not as off-putting as those two.
