I keep coming back to look at the images and I always come away with the same feeling. It's not twisted enough. The clothes have an underlying kink to them, something a bit f-ed up going on just below the surface, but the ads don't convey that at all. There's nothing dark about them and I think that's the main problem. I could've overlooked the fact that I dislike Linda and the terrible airbrushing if the concept was strong, but it's just not.
With all of the things Meisel could've done (prim scowling headmistress with a sadistic streak, Sicilian widow who looks like she killed her husband...) these are just flat. Not to mention that the single best piece (imo anyway) is nowhere to be found. Why the stylist didn't pull that skirt shown on the runway with a see through lace "window" on the rear is beyond me. A backwards facing shot of a crisp, non-sexual button down shirt with the clerical double collar paired with that skirt, underwear peaking through would've been perfect.
I do like the mens ads though, but I suspect thats because of the model more than anything else. It's nice to see a grown man for a change, and a good looking one at that.
